So, bright new day in Gothenburg and its RAINING AGAIN!!!!!argh... our first plan was to walk around the city and then go to Liseberg Amusement park!! ahh... Anyways, the morning wasn't bad to begin as I had this very nice breakfast! (haa..I would never really arrange breakfast at home with bread and cereal at the same time...!) Slacked off a bit and then decided to walk out anyways. It was drizzling.........but I brought my umbrella so that was ok...^^" Walked around the city, the shopping streets, the parks.... Started off early so it was actually pretty quiet on the streets...nice ne! Walked and chatted....not a lot of like..big sights to see within the city....just some statues and old buildings...The town looks nice though...old but modern at the same time. Not too busy but you can see ... read more

Day 1 in Malmo Hello all, welcome to the Malmo Blog! I'll try to update it as much as possible but I will be spending a bit of time on Facebook as well so if you have an account there, check me out there! To begin the story... both Amanda and I did not feel, even as we were landing in Sweden, that this journey was beginning. We felt that it started the moment we saw a viking ship (which we assume was a tourist attraction, but nonetheless, a viking ship) and then got excited (probably aided by the tremendous amount of espresso in our bodies) by the concept of going to school here. Malmo is a beautiful city, with the whole 'cobblestone street experience' and has the same coffee culture as Vancouver, if not more ... read more

Well its been a while since the last (and first!) post, and for those of you on the email list you'll know that following the loss of 2 weeks of unpublished blogs (I was waiting to find a computer to upload the photos when the site crashed losing 4 hours of typed up blogs) I/we have decided not to waste precious internet cafe hours typing up anything further! Instead group emails with a few attached photos will have to do! If I get time over the winter 'break' in Ireland then I might get round to typing it up again . . but no promises! For those of you that we have met along the way and only given the blog address, you can contact me at ben_walawski@hotmail.com and i'll add you to the group email ... read more

So this morning, surprisingly, Julia woke up really really early! Anyways, she had a few friends over during breakfast and we all chatted...nice. Then she decided to go jogging with her friends so she couldn't go to the museums with me in the end... Oh well, I got a 24 hours travel card and took off to the central train station. Put my backpack in the locker and headed towards the Wine and Spirit Museum. It was in this kinda...industrial building but the inside was really nice!..They had a free audio guide so I actually was able to understand things...although, all other signs in the museum were all in Swedish...-__-" It was interesting though! Explained how wine and the different kinds of wine were produced, the history of alcohol in Sweden...and even about packaging and labelling! ... read more

This has to be a short one because I am in a hotel (obviously I´m not staying here cos it´s missing a letter!) stealing free internet time! BUT I had to write one from here because: I am above the Arctic Circle! Yep, really! It´s kind of cold, there´s some snow around like it snowed last night or something, and it´s beeeaaauuutiful! Absolutely AMAZING! The train journey here was all lakes and mountains... I´m about to go out for dessert with an English guy I met at the train station here! Apparently his guide book recommends Swedish desserts, but I can´t afford to buy whole meals any more so I´m going to cook as well! Will be in touch from Norway!... read more

So finally met up with this nice lady, Julia! She lives in the outskirts of Stockholm, but a really nice residential area actually! She also has a cute doggie name Max.....the dog is such a GOOOOD dog!! Anyways, she let me stay int he living room with a nice sofabed....and TV with cable! haa....very nice...We chatted about many things, she was especially interested in Asian stuff so I told her a lot about it....well..kinda...She was actually pretty happy about it I guess since she said she never really met anyone from Hong Kong! haaa.. So....the night passed and the next morning, I woke up pretty early and was hoping to catch the 10 sth train to Söderköping..but, the lady didn't wake up!! I waited and waited and finally around 1030...I was like..whatever. So I accidentially found ... read more

And by that of course I mean Stockholm's airport. If I look really hard through the steel lined windows, I can see trees. They look pretty. This could be a cool country, who am I to judge? I haven't been through passport control. I have a two hour lay over before my flight St. Leninsburg, and it turns out, if you're willing to pay enough, go on a never ending search for the @ and ', the world of the internet can be yours too at the Stockholm airport. Now let's be serious. We all know I have nothing to say. I just took a 9 hour flight from Chi-town (those of you with Frank Sinatra know running through your heads get extra points). Aside from jetlag and coffee, I have nothing on my mind. The ... read more

Stockholm looks very nice......cute European...with a Medieval style....haa..dunno...just really like the layout...(well...have always been an IKEA fan to begin with...wahhaaa!!) The place is really clean and although I can't understand a thing by looking at Swedish.....it was just so easy coz everyone speaks English.....=P Surprisingly....not a lot in the supermarket was in English! I LOVE STOCKHOLM!!! Yep, it´s awesome! I ended up staying here for almost a week because it´s so great! My second day here, I moved hostels and then met up with some people from the boat hostel and walked around the island I´m now staying on. I was on a mission in the afternoon to do actual touristy stuff but I ended up watching a German film crew in the park and watching some people dive into the water and wave their arms around to get rescued for a lifeboat demonstration! Next day I went to Uppsala, about a 45 min train ride away to meet up with band for one night of tour! I watched their concert in the afternoon and then Chris the conductor had an interesting encounter with a transvestite who wanted to ... read more

Hi! Well, we finally arrived in Orebro after what seemed like days of traveling. I ended up running into a girl from SDSU before boarding the plane in Chicago. Both of us were relieved to have a traveling buddy, and it ended up that there were two other girls on our flight going to the same school as us. We met a guy from our flight who helped us find the right train to take and he showed us a little bit of Stockholm while we were waiting for the train. Once we got to Orebro, everyone was exhausted but we still took time to walk into town and buy a few things for our rooms, which are about the size of a normal dorm room with a private bathroom. There are 12 or these rooms ... read more
