Best geinig, ... read more

Breakfast food: The breakfast food in Sweden is very interesting to say the least. I think the most unusual was the caviar in the tube. As disgusting as this may sound to some of you, it was very good and came in many different flavors (straight caviar, caviar and cheese, and many more). The tubes look like giant tubes of toothpaste. I must say I was pleasantly surprised at how good this was with a hard-boiled egg. It had all the wonderful saltiness of caviar without the weird texture you usually get. I think it requires refrigeration, otherwise I would bring some home for everyone to try. Other breakfast foods include Muesli (grains and dried fruit) and yogurt thin enough to be a yogurt smoothie, meat paste (pate), and assorted jams, meats, breads, and cheeses. The ... read more

Today we made one last foray into Copenhagen before we rode the train under the Oresund bridge to Malmo to meet our friends Johan and Charlotte, and their daughter Olivia. We met in the Train Station and walked over to the "Little Square" for lunch. Then we went back to their apartment and got settled in. Later that night we went out for a delicious dinner and some coffee. We walked through their local park and also walked down by the beach for a while. The sun didn’t go down until 11 PM! Tomorrow night is the soccer game, and Seth can't wait! I just wanted to add some of my thoughts and observations to what Vicki already posted. It is often the little differences that I find the most interesting. For instance, the flushing mechanism ... read more

Stockholm!! Climbed off the boat and on to the bus after a banana and muesli bar breakfast. I was checking out the map when I realised the place I needed to be was not where the bus was going so I quickly regained my cash and headed out on foot. My hostel is quite a neat place: it is actually a school. The classrooms have been turned into dormitories for the summer holidays. The only downside is that the doors don’t lock and anyone can walk in or out as they please. Spoke to the family on the phone for a bit and then I headed into a place called Skansen. The entire place is a recreation of traditional Swedish (and some Finnish) settlements. Inside is also a zoo with Scandinavian animals. I was very ... read more

When we last left off I was in Ferrara. Going there to visit Marcello was a very spontaneous decision that turned out to be a highlight of my trip. As soon as we got to his place we set up a table on his patio and decorated it with fresh crostini bread, pasta with homemade pesto, prosciutto, and a bottle of nice cool white wine. Just a typical lunch. Followed by some espresso of course. Then his mom gets home and inquires as to whether I would enjoy some fresh spaghetti alla vongole for dinner tomorrow night. Gee, let me think. Already I am so happy I am about to cry. After our lunch Marcello gives me an extra bicycle and we pedal around Ferrara for a bit and make our way to his cousin Christina's ... read more

Beauty is a Sunny Day in Scandinavia For our final full day in Stockholm we were really lucky. When we woke and opened the curtains the sun was shining and there was even a little blue in the sky. While rain day-in and day-out can make any place seem miserable, a little sun in this part of the world is absolutely gorgeous. (It’s so beautiful that while I write this part of this blog I have stationed myself in front of a window looking out into Stockholm’s beauty, nice!) After the great breakfast the day before with Al and Linda we knew we had to get our lazy bums out of bed and get to breakfast. Free breakfast is a blessing and a bane for us. On one hand we get a third meal during ... read more

Untitled Hey, sorry it's taken a while, but class has picked up a little and we have a 10 page paper due Friday, so finding time to blog has been tricky. As promised, more about Visby and Gotland ... I have over 100 pictures from this outing - I'm not posting all of them, but I have posted about 50, so you might have to hit next at the bottom to fully enjoy the pictoral splendor. As I've said before, Visby is absolutely beautiful. It is one of the oldest cities in Sweden because of its strategic location along several trading routes. To get there, we took a bus, 2 trains, and a ferry. We were on the island for a total of 5 days, staying in a youth hostel about a mile outside of the ... read more

Hello there, finally I arrived in Stockholm last monday. I came by highspeed train from Falkenberg, via Göteborg. I stayed a few hours in Göteborg before heading to Stockholm. The last days at Tommy's were fun. Saturday was rainy almost the whole day, but later in the afternoon in became dry. Then we went to Halmstad, where we also had some beers and played some pool. Tommy won 9 of the 12 games we played...he was just lucky, lol. On Sunday we had better weather and we went around Falkenberg and the countryside around. It was a nice trip! We also had some drinks at the house of the boyfriend of Tommy's mom. He lives on the countryside. Göteborg is the second largest city in Sweden. The city is ok, it has it's beautiful things ... read more
