Hi Guys, We have been extensively travelling by bus for the last couple of days so I wont bore you too much with the details. We had mooorree beautiful scenery on the way to Sweden, Im getting sick of it ...well ,not really. The day before yesterday we went north from Bergen to the Sognefjord. It is the longest and considered the most scenic in Norway. They stretch up to 200 kilometres in land so of course I could resist taken dozens of snaps. I've attached a few here, hopefully you consider them some of the better ones. We went up a part called the Norjefjord which at a guess with my fluent norvegian means narrow fjord . They can get as narrow as 250m and up to 1300 metres deep,.. so they can be ... read more

We arrived today in Stockholm, Sweden and went straight to our cousin Laura's apartment. The house is beautiful with an amazing view of the city. Suzanne and I decided that caffiene would override jetlag and after chugging coffee headed out into the city with Laura as our guide and the two kids (Will and Claudia) in tow. The city is beautiful, and it didn't hurt that the weather was gorgeous! We walked for hours, through Old Town, by the water, and all over. Eventually we headed on a water taxi to Rosengaurd, and small cafe that is on acres and acres of land where they grow their own food. Here the kids could run and play and we could eat fresh foods in the shade. Suzanne and I then took advantage of our surroundings and napped ... read more

Off to Norway Europe » Sweden » Kiruna By ChipwoodJuly 1st 2007Untitled Hopped on the train this morning with the idea that I would stop and play golf a Abisko. I got off the train with my pack and walked a half a mile up hill (eveything seems to be up hill from the train depot) to the golf course. It was a beautiful day and I was excited at the thought of playing golf 240km above the Artic Circle. Much to my disappointment the lady behind the counter inform me that the course woudn´t be open for another week. What could I do, so I took a short walk around the area then went back to the station to write postcards and wait for the next ... read more

Ok, as promised, some pictures and stories that don't involve solely historical artifacts. Sorry for the delay - most of these are from other people's cameras (thanks Molly!). On Wednesday, the whole group went into Stockholm. We stopped at the historical museum for a while then broke off into two groups to explore. It was wet and rainy, so our group decided to stop into a pub (Picwicks) for some cider and beer rather get more soggy. I had some delicious pear cider and we sat outside on a covered patio to people watch. From there, the whole group went dinner at Herman's - Professor Roddy's treat. Herman's is this awesome vegitarian buffet restaurant over looking the lake and Gamla Stan (old town). It was beautiful even in the rain. After dinner most of us ... read more

Above the Artic Circle Europe » Sweden By ChipwoodJune 30th 2007UntitledOn Sunday I set from Storuman on the Inlandsbanan train again, this time to Gallivare above the Article Circle. Did I mention that most the train route is lined with trees and the view is very limited. Every once in a while you would cross a river and be able to see farther. When we arrived at Gallivare we took a bus to a look out to take pictures of the midnight sun. Gallivare has the largest iron ore mine in the world, infact most of the ore is under the town and now they are preparing to move it. Tomorrow I´m off to Abisko to play golf.... read more

So, for the last two days we have been running around Sigtuna and Stockholm looking at old stuff ... in a history class, go figure ... St. Olaf's, St. Mary's, and St. Peter's are old churches that are walking distance from our school. The only one of the three is still operational (St. Mary's). St. Mary's was beautiful. From the outside it is breathtaking and inside it has been fully restored - though it is now lutheran rather than the original Dominican. The candlabra is for prayer candles and is basically the first thing you see when you walk into the church, I thought that the design was very interesting because it is more clean and classic then what I would typically associate with a historical church. St. Peters was where the King went to ... read more

Day 3-4: Gothenburg Jetlag descends upon me like a gray clouded monster to envelope me, like the oncoming of storm clouds descending on a town ready to make hell. Jetlag is hellish. I thought I had kicked jetlagg’s butt to the curb, not having drank any alcoholic drink and sleeping on the plane, making sure to stay awake the whole day once I got to Stockholm and the next day following Stockholm’s schedule and eating times, and falling asleep at a reasonably time, 22:00 and getting up around 8am the second day. The morning sun rays spread into the empty hardwood floor room, climb onto bed, crawls underneath my sleeping mask and pry my eyes open. The sound of tires hitting wet concrete indicate to me that it is still raining, harking back to my dreadful ... read more
