Arriving in Barcelona was beautiful..huge culture shock from Berlin and for almost 3 days I could only come up with German or french(?) when I was trying to communicate....and a few words of resort spanish...damn! I was to rent an apartment from a couch surfer from Venice Beach (Texas originally), Ramzi, but he ended up staying in town and we hung out for a few days. While in town I spent most of my time out, in Monestir De Monsterrat and Terragona. Monsterrat has a beautiful Monastery surrounded by rugged mountains (peak 1200ish) which Ramzi and I hiked all day and got some stunning photos. Tarragona is a city founded in 218BC by Romans..and the people now have built the city into the ruins - quite amazing...oh, yes, look for my apartment...not hard to miss...just ... read more

The last thing Gina or I wanted to contend with after a rough night’s sleep was the winding 4-hour bus ride to Seville. To make matters worse, a fireworks grand finale had started brewing in my stomach by the time we reached the Algeciras bus station that morning, and it wasn’t long after procuring our tickets that I found myself frantically scanning for the closest baño. The seatless toilets that greeted me as I pushed open one stall after another were anything but welcoming; I had no choice. Finding Gina curled in the fetal position when I returned to the terminal a short while later, I could only envision the two of us fighting for the bathroom as our bus wound its way to Seville. At 10AM, our bus pulled into spot number 4 and we ... read more

Hola Finally! Sorry for the incommunicado since I left. I'm sure the anticipation to know how things are going over here was just killing all of you. Well, it's been a good trip. I have lots to report, so here's the story... 11 & 12 JUNE - Monday & Tuesday • We left for Spain in three groups. Group 1 was small - two chaperones (me being one of them) and one student. Group 2 was a student who flew over by herself. Group 3 was the other 23 people, including our group leader. The three of us flew from the CLE to the ATL and then straight in to Barcelona. No real issues, other than a 1.5 hour wait on the runway in ATL because we couldn't go to our gate, and in Barcelona we ... read more

Well hi there. This is my first entry and my first blog at all. Actually I am not a fan of blogging at all but since I am going on some nice trips now, I have been requested to do this and keep in contact this way. Which is pretty much the reason why I am doing this - to keep friends and family updated... This year's vacation will lead me to Greece where I will go on June,27th. I will be skipper of a nice yacht and we will sail for 10 days. After that I plan to stay 4 more days in Athens, surfing a couch and see what I can in such a short period. I will return to Mallorca on July, 11th with many visitors waiting there for me. My favourite kids ... read more

MallorcaEdgar Barguiarena So I thought I needed a vacation from all the incredible sights I had been seeing and the places I was visiting. After I had finally made it to Barcelona and getting a taste of the beach I decided to make my way to the small island of Mallorca. I dont exactly remember what made me come here, I think I figured it would be a nice detour on my way to Ibiza. I didnt know much about this place or what there was to do, just that there were supposedly some pretty nice beaches and that it was a nice contrast to the crazy party lifestyle of Ibiza. I figured three days max, and that would put me in Ibiza for the weekend. Here it is, 8 days later and I still dont ... read more

Not the sound of the alarm clock , matt jumped up to look outside , pouring with rain, quick decision looking across to all the other pilot staying , with there necks stretched to the heavens , yep unanimous decision by all , back under the duvet. Resurfacing round 11am the dreaded thought I was running out of clean clothes again, this time armed with back up Matt was given the induction session to the “good old days” although one to see positives you do get a great suntan while slaving away. Felling the need for more discovering the sun was shining upon us so we made our way to Avila a much larger Spanish town 72kms form camp. Arriving at 5pm to a city that was fortified by a spectacular wall. We had a ... read more

Hello everyone, Yesterday afternoon we left Santiago. The rain finally cleared and it became warmer a couple of hours before we headed to the airport. Santiago is a beautiful city and we really enjoyed our time there. The flight to Barcelona was only about an hour and 10 mins and was uneventful apart from some terrible turbulance on the way up through the clouds and back coming down. Barcelona is hot and sunny though lots of smog around. Marian met up with her son Brendan (who is living here) yesterday afternoon. I had a rest, caught up on some magazines I had brought from home and had an early dinner. Today the weather has been the same. Had a big walk around the city then went on one of those open top buses and visited Gaudi´s ... read more

¡Hola from Tenerife! Today I worked my first day with the Atlantic Whale Foundation, I can´t believe I´m going to get to do this for 3 weeks! They send us along with the different whale watching boats for the day. We work in groups of 2 or 3 and record the what the animals are doing and take pictures of them. The rest of the time we basically just ride along, we can get out to swim with the group if we want, or just enjoy the sun. Rough life! At the end we go around and get people to sign our antiwhaling petition. I love that part because I get to talk to people from lots of different countries. There´s not a lot of Americans over here, but I did meet a group today from ... read more
