I found this castle hotel by complete accident on the internet the other day, so for kicks I emailed to see if they had any openings and sure enough they had two nights at a rate LESS than my not so fab hotel in downtown Barcelona. I booked it and off I went. My first road trip in Spain. Wyatt recommended “pepecars.com” for the best rates on rental cars. All the guide books talk about rental cars being broken into in Spain, particularly Barcelona, and how tourists are major targets. Specifically they say when you are in a rental car to be as inconspicuous as possible so your car does not look like a rental to reduce the chance of getting broken into. As you can see from the photo, Pepe must not be concerned ... read more

Oh my goodness we awoke to a certified Alarm Clock at 7.20am instead of the natural arousal of ones self. We had to go to Piedrahita for Matt to resister as a competitor and wait the briefing arriving with the other 139 pilots. Briefing involved a welcome, introduction and the laying out of the day’s activities. Matt was given registration number 299 (as you can see form the given number quite a few pilots DNA). Very shortly afterwards they began the task of “parawaiting” for the uninitiated a term pilots use that means waiting around for the right weather conditions to take off and any other activity involving them not being able to fly. This happened to be awaiting the arrival of the bus to collect the competitors to take them up the 10km to ... read more

Hey guys, We arrived in Madrid today around ten AM and slept for a good 5 hours, we pulled an all-nighter last night. We went to dinner around eleven and the city has been absolutely nuts tonight because they had a soccer game and Madrid won, the city will definitely not sleep tonight. The plazas here are beautiful and always busy with everyone from one year old to one hundred years old walking together and enjoying the beautiful weather. We had sangria with dinner, which was great and we are really loving everything about the city. Tonight we are probably going to sleep in a little bit because we have our day planned out for tomorrow, we will post again soon to let you know what all is goin on. Love, Ben and Brady P.S. Today started off raining, but it ended up being the ideal day! I went for coffee in the morning with an Australian girl who had eclectic muscial tastes and was a big fan of Tommy Emmanuel. I spent the entire afternoon at the beach and hanging out with the people I had met the previous night. I went for a nice swim in the Atlantic, and got a nice tan. TGV to Paris overnight to meet Bob!!!... read more

Hi all, Just an update. Have now moved into Spain after three days tripping around Provence. Visited the Roman theatre, the aquaduct and did a wine and olive tour which was a highlight. Also visited within the walled part of Avignon and the Palace of Papes, this is certainly turning into a Roman and Christian historic sites trip - but then they both had such amazing influcence over the whole place. Palace of the Papes was used by three main Popes who moved the seat of the catholic church to Avignon around the 13th century due to all the civil unrest in Italy at the time. Each added his own touch to the Palace but unfortunately the taking of photos was strictly forbidden. The chimney from the main kitchen had to be seen to be believed ... read more

Ahhhh! I wish I had more time in Barcelona, it is such a cool city! First of all, I think I found food heaven here. There is a huge open air market place on Las Ramblas that has just about every food imaginable: fresh fruit, tons of seafood, bread, meat, pasta, candy, pretty much everything you could ever need. I had mango juice from there that taste like someone had just taken a fresh mango and put it in the blender. Sooo good! Today I walked around and saw some of the Gaudi's that are all over the city. I saw the sagrada familia cathedral, which is amazing and intricate. Then I hiked around Parc Guell (well, hiked as much as possible in reef flip-flops). Its up on a hill, so you can get views from ... read more

In the morning Philip and I enjoyed some more sightseeing before heading down for a much needed swim at the beach. It was fantastic and much nicer than swimming in the Thames (which I have never tried by the way, but I can imagine). In the afternoon we travelled to Valls for the LFAC Grand Final between Valls and Bareclona. It was a great game and quite close in the end. There was a decent crowd as well, complete with a bloke from Senegal who was banging on the drums, which added to an already great atmosphere. In fact there were a number of blokes from Senegal playing in the match, which was great to see. Afterwards one of the Catalan government officials spoke about the importance of using sport to achieve social integration and ... read more

Barcelona - Gaudi Europe » Spain » Barcelona By clarkeyJune 17th 2007Brian ClarkeIt was great to see an old friend, El Sol, again in Barcelona. What a fantastic city! Barcelona is the capital of the region in Spain known as Catalonia, and the Catalans consider themselves as an entirely separate region. Indeed, a lot of people here would not be too unhappy if Catalonia was an independent nation. But, politics aside, Barcelona is a truly wonderful place and a must visit for anyone visiting Europe. The combination of sun, sand, sea, siestas and senoritas is hard to beat!... read more

Hi everyone, Well we have enjoyed our few days here in Santiago even though we have had a bit of rain. The pension is right in the middle of town so nice and close to all the wonderful Tapas bars. Yesterday Marian and I checked out the shops in town then caught a taxi to a dept. store - about the size of Myer in Brisbane - possibly smaller. There they had everything and we were able to buy some clothes and shoes. Great sales on - 40% off most of what I bought Last night and the previous night we visited some of the Tapas bars. One of which was a recommendation from one of Marian´s friends and it was fabulous. The food is amazing and we have become friendly with one of the young ... read more

Schiefe Boeden inclusive. Schoener Innenhof, und ... read more
