¡Hola from Tenerife! Today I worked my first day with the Atlantic Whale Foundation, I can´t believe I´m going to get to do this for 3 weeks! They send us along with the different whale watching boats for the day. We work in groups of 2 or 3 and record the what the animals are doing and take pictures of them. The rest of the time we basically just ride along, we can get out to swim with the group if we want, or just enjoy the sun. Rough life! At the end we go around and get people to sign our antiwhaling petition. I love that part because I get to talk to people from lots of different countries. There´s not a lot of Americans over here, but I did meet a group today from ... read more

Belorado-San Juan de Ortega 23 km 07.00 Uhr -13.30 Uhr angekommen.

NOTE: This entry is ghost-written by Gary. When I (Gary) get information by phone or email that does not make a first-person journal entry by Amie or Dusty, I'll ghost-write an entry so everyone can share. Hopefully we'll get some first-person entries too, though. After all the anticipation and preparation, it was time to go. Gary and Grandma took us out to the Austin airport. Our booked flights were Austin to Chicago, Chicago to London, and London to Valencia. We arrived at the Austin airport to find out at check-in we were being switched to an earlier flight to Chicago because our intended flight was likely to be delayed or cancelled due to weather somewhere between the two cities. It turned out that the earlier flight also got cancelled. After some shuffling and rushing around, ... read more

Of course Gene would insist that we catch the first ferry out at the crack ass of dawn. To top that, Nervous Nancy felt the need to set the alarm clock for 5:00 a.m., two hours prior to the departure of the ferry for Spain. Good thing my husband is so punctual - we arrived at the port promptly at 6:00 a.m. to find the ticket office closed. The look on my face said it all. Gene, ignoring the fact that we didn’t have so much as a place to sit, suggested “we” grab some coffee (I don’t drink coffee) while we wait for the office to open. Gene began to grow fidgety in his rickety folding chair as the clock ticked past 6:30 a.m. and nobody had opened the doors to the ticket office. More ... read more

Today I atteneded my first day of class and it was great ! Mis profesores son muy buenos ! My entries may switch between spanish and english, it is hard to learn spanish all day and then change back to english so bear with me :-). I am so excited to be in Madrid and I am really looking forward to taking full advantage of all the city has to offer. My classmates seem cool.....so having people to explore the city with shouldn´t be a problem. Madrid is quite wonderful. It´s an upscale city wiith the perfect mix of old world charm and contemporary flavor. Yesterday, I had the chance to visit the Pardo Museum and the Botanical Gardens. Although I could not take pictures in the museum, I took plenty of photos in the gardens. ... read more

Hi everyone, Today we head to Barcelona and not sure if I remember where the internet is there. Have had more rain today but it has now cleared. Went back to the cathedral this morning and another Mass on - seems that they have Mass there all the time. Only three priests on the altar this time!! However, two sang and they had the most amazing voices. Yesterday at midday Mass this young nun sang and she too had the most amazing voice. Unfortunately the insense burner did not operate - it is apparently amazing. Mary and Bob I am sure you would have seen it on Christmas Day. I had tried to make a few phone calls - MC, Lou and Meg. Mc - but trouble with phone and then too late. Thinking of you ... read more

AlhambraCordobaIn the Sierra NevadaJoseph EbyFor those of you that have been waiting ever so patiently for a new entry, let me fill you in on why I haven´t been writing more. For the sake of brevity, and because I am so, so very tired, I´m going to keep it short and then show you lots of pictures. note: Okay, I wrote that last bit a couple days ago, and, after two hours (when the office closed) I decided that that just wasn´t going to happen. This is what I did last weekend. La Alhambra On Friday afternoon, we went to the Alhambra. The Alhambra has only been here (in some form) sine the 11th century. Nonetheless, it has quite a lot of history and you can read a far more extensive and correct version url="http://en.wikipe... read more
