Amie's Valencia notes (so far) Getting here: Monday checked into the Austin airport - we were told that they were putting us on an earlier flight (3:40) so we had to hurry - only to get to the gate and find out we were delayed until 5 pm - then 6 pm - then totally cancelled. So I had to call American Airlines while we went to get our luggage. They had us on the phone for about 30 mins and changed all of our flights. We now had to hurry to the ticked counter and re check in, go back thru security, rush to the new gate and get on a plane that was going to a totally different coast than before. We were headed to Los Angeles, CA. Got there fine - sat ... read more

San Francisco to Barcelona Day 1 (6/21-6/22) Here are photos from this entry: url="http://picasaweb.google.com/kosmatka/24HoursOfFlightGreetingsFromBarcelona?authkey=eP1anZgrStw" target="_blank"Photos As the locals would say, "Hola!" Barcelona is great...now that we are finally here. It was a super long day yesterday. As you may or may not know, our flight out of San Francisco was canceled. So instead of leaving at 7 am., we left at 12:30pm. The plane flight was smooth sailing. I was mighty grateful. I was proud of myself. I stayed calm the entire time. Our last leg of the flight, out of Frankfurt, was delayed ... twice. First the flight was late arriving and then we got to sit on the tarmac for another 2 hours before we took off. To add insult to injury we were number 51 in the cue for takeoff. The last airport, ... read more

HOLAAA MUCHACHOS Y MUCHACHAS!!!!! Heyyy guys.. We couldn't get the internet working but we found someone to help us, And we now figured it outt. The plane rides were kind of a chaosss but that's okay we got through it. I will explain that later in this email but for now here is the good stuff;; Today we saw Nicole because she came and visited, we went walking with her around our hotel. Now we know that there is a cool park behind our hotel that has a basketball court whih will be fun to play with some locals. And then a problem is that we didn't bring a basketball, but we brought a "futbol" (soccer) ball. I can play with that. Theres a Mall about 15-20 mintues away (walking distance) and so we went and ... read more

On our way to the internet café in the morning, I ducked my head into a hair salon to see how much it would cost to die my Raggedy Ann hair back to brown. As soon as I walked through the door, I knew I would again be employing my pigeon Spanish when all four female beauticians stopped what they were doing to focus their attention on me. “Hola! Habla Ingles?” I questioned with a cheery smile on my face. Unfortunately, my friendliness was greeted with a big fat “NO.” I felt like the subject of some psychology experiment as everyone stood watching, waiting for me to make my next move. Argh. This is going to be a blast. “No me gusta mi pelo rojo. Te quiero pelo moreno, pero no permanente. Comprende?” I asked, trying ... read more

I normally enjoy starting trips to see visiting family members by getting hammered the night before and of course forgetting to go the sleep. This is a highly suggested strategy and I will recommend it to everyone. My sisters Danielle and Kerry came to visit me in Spain on June 20th, being a very responsible brother I was meeting them in Madrid, but Los Hogares were going on in Alicante. By the time Wednesday came around I had already partied all week and I had to catch a train at 8am. I return to my flat around 5am, pack, blinked for two hours, and went to the train station where I slept the entire way to Madrid. I find the hotel and about two minutes later they enlighten me it’s the wrong hotel, they inform me ... read more

Hola otra vez, 14 JUNE - Thursday • The bus ride to Madrid was split up by a stop in Zaragoza, Spain's fifth-largest city. It's probably best-known for its cathedral, which we visited. It was a really enormous cathedral, constructed thanks to the riches brought back from the Americas, but the Plaza that lines its south side is no doubt one of the biggest I've ever seen, if not the longest. After the visit, we had lunch, which was... an adventure. Our waitress had issues with counting the number of different dishes we ordered, and as a result one of the girls didn't each her entire meal. Many restaurants offer you a full meal for one price - that'd include one plate (soup, salad or maybe some pasta), a second plate (fish/meat and potatoes) a ... read more

Well I came here to improve my spanish speaking skills and I can definetly say that I´m accomplishing that goal........every minute of the day .....spanish ....spanish......sppanish ! I´m enrolled in an intensive 4 week program and it is kicking my butt. I am not complaining but I have a lot to learn. I have to have a drink after class every night ( no joke). I love the school and my teachers are great.......but learning a lanugage for several hours a day can make your head explode. I can´t wait until the weekend. I really want gto see more of the city! I´m still elated to be here! Chao Jennifer ... read more
