We arrived in Alicante after a short train ride from Barcelona. According to our books and fellow travelers, Alicante is a lesser known stop along the Southern coast of Spain. Hoping to relax a little after our times in Barcelona, our first impressions of Alicante were optimistic. Arriving on a Sunday, the streets were unusually quiet. We were surprised to see a variety of float-like statues erected amongst the streets of the city. Although odd, we figured something was just a little different in Alicante. We didn´t have a reservation and settled at Pension Popeye (A portent of things to come). We spent a little time at the beach and got ready for dinner. A cute Spanish waiter served us Paella (a massive rice dish with a variety of different vegetables and meat), which both ... read more

Day 4 (6/24) See a few photos from our adventures url="http://picasaweb.google.com/kosmatka/SeaKayakingInPalamosBarcelonaDay4?authkey=mPa3FPN8DRg" target="_blank"here. Here's another set from our friends, Dan & Bev, who accompanied us on our adventure Today is our anniversary and our last day in Barcelona. We headed out for a day of sea kayaking in Palamos at Costa Brava around 8 am, stopping off at a little café along the way for some breakfast. The trip itself (getting there) felt like it took forever, but in reality it was probably only an hour and a half. The beaches are beautiful here, although there isn’t a whole lot of smooth, soft sand like there is at home. There were a lot of large pebbles, especially down by the water. The waves were also much ... read more

Well how would you like to get woke up by a techno bass that makes you hop faster and higher in your bed than your last sex? Of course we sleep with open doors so we woke up and walked out the door. Sun had risen and we saw a bunch of young people following a truck (walking!) with a very loud sound system on top and a DJ :-) Behind them was a police car controlling the traffic... Well, nice music. So since I was up I decided to use the time and pack my things. So I got out my backpack and put everything on the table that I wanted to take to Greece. Apart from the regular clothes stuff I took some sailing books about Greece and my laptop to be able ... read more

We just had a wonderful week in the white town of Casares. We rented an apartment in the middle of the town and spent our week climbing up and down our 4 story home. It is a beautiful, small authentic town situated 10 km up a mountain next to the Mediterranean ocean. We had a terrace on the top floor where we could overlook Gibraltar and the mountains of Africa. Upon our arrival we met a woman named Beth, a Brit turned hippie Spaniard, who showed us to our place. She spent an hour and a half sharing must-do's of the town in a wonderful British/horrible Spanish accent. She wore neon green earrings and green converse. Quite a character. The town had a very slow feel to it; Men sitting in the main square, woman ... read more

(pretend like I’m up to date . . . ) After a couple days in the castle, Pepe and I headed north to Cadaques, a small fishing town in the north part of Costa Brava (very glad Pepe es pequeno because the streets are TINY). With the help of LoQuo, Spain’s Craig’s List (very handy), I found a week rental right up the street from the water and main square. I was told the owner is an older English woman who spends most of her time there creating pottery and then goes back to London to sell it. This place brought back great memories of staying at Nana Cuca’s house (my grandma). Lots of nick knacks and mismatched things that still seem to go together, hanging laundry outside, little flower pots on the deck . . ... read more
