After all my buddies left Cadaques Pepe and I took a day trip to Besalu . . . What? You’ve never heard of it? That’s ok, neither have I. When I was at the castle hotel they gave me a map of the region, so I randomly picked a place to drive to and this was it! It’s a cute little medieval town built about an hour and a half west of Cadaques. That’s about all I know about Besalu. I love driving manual cars. It brings back great memories of high school/college and my Volkswagen Sirocco. Good times. But after ten days of Pepe, I was ready to part ways. He really needed some Viagra. We’d be fine and then we’d hit fourth gear and he just couldn’t keep up. This made for a ... read more

Wednesday Evening Okay, Wednesday evening we meet Nicole and Lauren at the Tores de Serranos to do some shopping at the market (one of the few open in the evening). Of course before we left this area we had to have some ice cream (before dinner). It is really better than any ice cream I have ever had. Took a few pictures..... Thursday Today we went to the 32nd America's Cup. The boats at the America's Cup were amazing. Once again we did a lot of walking but that was okay. There were also other people's yachts in the marina so we got to see those too. I definately think I could live on one of those things. It was funny to me that the rafts on them were boats with huge motors (not little dinky ... read more

Suffice to say we loved Barcelona! We spent 3 nights in the city just laxing out, strolling the streets, drinking Sangria, and eating tapas! We found a cool Irish bar that had heaps of big screen tvs and who were only too happy to let us watch the America's Cup races that were going on while we were there (yes, London does not have the slightest interest in the Cup so we didn't even know it was going on until Dad reminded us!!) Plus the bar had 2 vodkas and red-bulls for 5 euro so we drank a fair few of them during the afternoons.... The city is very cool, small enough to feel we got the gist of it within only 3-4 days, but plenty big enough to leave us wishing we hd more time ... read more

So I would like to put a disclaimer up from the last blog... I am not an alcoholic... lol Last night my friends and I had a sort of last dinner all together, since we have finals and all, we wanted to make sure to celebrate! Instead of having Spanish or Basque food, we ate at a Chinese Restaurant! Yep, Chinese food in Spain, but I guess it is the same as having Chinese food in the US too! It was actually the best Chinese food I have ever had. My friends and I all had spring rolls and then each ordered a dish and we all shared. They brought the dishes out as they were ready, so for an hour we constantly ate. It was nice though, because you weren't stuffing your face all at ... read more

Today my roommate Dan and I woke up at 8:15 after some much needed rest. We started the day with breakfast at the hotel (the best meal I had eaten so far) before departing at 9:30 for the local city of Segovia (1hr:45min away.) We visited “el acueducto” (an aqueduct built in the 1st century that has no mortar holding it together) , “La Plaza Mayor” where we had the chance to buy items at the flea market (and also where I ate the most delicious pastry I have ever consumed), and saw “La Catedral” from the outside—apparently the best side. After this, we walked a short distance to “El Alcazar”—a half castle, half palace structure build on the top of a mountain situated between two rivers. We took a guided tour (in English, thank ... read more

El Burgo Raniero - Madillas las Mullas - Leon 19 km + 19 km 07.30 - 13.05 Also, gestern waren wir sehr ausgelassen.

Barcelona started with getting our bearings, showing Emz the Sagrada Familia, then hanging out on the beach witth the American guys, who we met up randomly with again, these guys were mental. Sevilla was one of our favourite places, so it was too bad we only had one night there. As I said we had travelled here with two friends from Granada; they were in one hostel and we were in a different one just around the corner. The first day we went to the Alcazar, which was yet again another big fortress and palace, with both Islamic and Christian Architecture. Apparently it is also where the King and Queen of Spain stay when they visit Sevilla. My favourite part was the gardens, because they were like 4 times as large as the buildings, and you could wander for hours in them. It also had a labryinth maze made of bushes, but we didnt go too far in because we didn't have time to get lost. which ... read more

Hola, 24 JUNE - Sunday • The bus from Barcelona got me back home at about 1900 hrs. I decided that since it was early, I'd go grab a bite and take in a movie. (Funny how I used the word 'home' above. Honestly, I did feel very 'at home' both in Madrid and in the neighborhood near the hostal where I was staying. More on that later.) I bopped it on over to Calle Fuencarral and had a bocadillo de calamares and a sidra. I definitely hadn't gotten sick of tortilla española in my sandwiches, but I thought I'd just have something different. I'm a huuuuge fan of the alcoholic cider for which Spain's northwestern provinces of Galicia and Asturias are well-known, so I had to drink me a couple of them. It helped ... read more

Sooo it's the day after my 21st Birthday and let me tell you my head hurts! But it was totally worth it, I'm 21 now! 21 is not a big deal here, because you can drink straight out of the cradle, but all the people at the bars know it is a big deal for an American, so i got free drinks anyways! I will make a list of everything I drank, because it was amazing! at the apartment: Champagne, the cheap stuff that cost 3 euros, but hey I'm not picky yet Sex on the Beach, basically a fruity delicious mix with juice Sangria While playing Kings (a drinking game) we mixed the sex on the beach with the sangria and to our surprise it was quite deilicious Corona with lime, or as they call ... read more
