Day trip to Como Europe » Italy » Lombardia » Como By MarcusRJuly 6th 2007 We headed out pretty early for Como as we wanted to spend as full a day as possible there. Como is a lake about 1 hours train journey north of Milan, on the border of Switzerland and is where Star Wars Episode 2 was filmed (the lovey dovey stuff on the lake). Como is just absolutely stunning, everything is just so well kept. We booked our boat trip around the lake but it didnt leave until 1215 so we had a bit of time to have a wander about and take in the scenery. The boat trip was about 2 hours, returning us back to Como. Some of the properties and villages we saw wer... read more

We got out of Finale Ligure as soon as we could, travelling via Geneva. Arrived in Milan about miday, then spent 40 min looking for the sodding hotel, which ended up being 5min down the road from the station, crap. By the time we´d checked in, got some water and cashed some travellers it was 1500, bahhh. So much for our day in Milan. To be honest we really didnt need much more time. We travelled by tram to the cathedral, trams are great, we were on a really rustic one, there were lots of new ones though. First we made a slight detour as it was our first time travelling by tram and I just presumed you just got on in the right direction, completely ignoring the fact that there are different lines. Finale Ligure Europe » Italy » Liguria By MarcusRJuly 4th 2007 So we pretty much arrived here with no information about the hostel and us being idiots expected it to be just outside the station, yeh right. We decided to head down to the beach and man its a nice beach, really picturesque, absolutely scorching as well. Relaxed at the beach for a while then headed off for a wander. Managed to find an internet cafe, really nice lady in there and even had a propper cup of tea and it was goood. We had to wait arround till 5 to ring the hostel up, this place is actually a castle, brillant. The gave us directions and bugger me if it isnt a the top of a hill with 300 steps. That was hard work especially with our ... read more

Really great day today and quite unexpected the hostel that Emz booked was fantastic, it's one of the to 10 in Europe, apparently. It was a bit out of the way but all the staff were incredibly helpful. Most of them were americans, with a few other nationalitys. We arrived at the station and the instructions told us to phone them up (free) and the would come and pick us up, increddible!! We planned on spending the day on the beach but when we arrived the staff told us all these fantastic places to go, they gave us a map with all the bus times, routes, costs and activities. So the first place we headed for was Eze village, which really has to be seen to be believed its a medievil town at the top ... read more

We were meant to be heading off to Finale Lugure today but we adjusted our plan as we realised how expensive Milan is. So instead we stayed an extra day in Marseille and plan to stay in Nice for the day before moving on. Really lazy day today got up at mid-day and spent to day with Thomas. I think he felt he was obliged to show us around Marseille, but he really didn't know where to take us and comunication was quite difficult!!!... read more

Those who don't know who Nadine and Vincent are, Nadine used to be my au pair when I was young and we have been in contact ever since. Nadine now have 3 kids of their own, one of which is coming to England in a week or so as I did to france a couple of years ago. So Nadine and Vincent very kindly put us up for a couple of nights and made a very good job of hosting us. Had a really really good day today, it was nice just to sit back and let Nadine and Vincent lead on and take us places without having to think about anything. Hot showers as well - oh baby. Also before we went out, got picked up at 0530 - ouch!!, we had plenty of ... read more

Well the vile crap hole known as cebere station was brightened significantly by our second randoms we met, known only as 'The Irish', joke guys if your reading this. Really cool bunch of people. I was sitting in the station waiting for this god forsaken train when I noticed that they were playing shit head lol. Of all the games. Had a really good time chatting to them, man they bounced off each other it was hilarious, they should do stand up. One line I remember was: -- I can here fookin trains -- Of course you can hear fookin trains, were in a fooking train station Classic!! Our random banterings went on through the night and it ends up we are basically doing the same route as them, bar slightly different dates. Hopefully, actually ... read more

So at the moment I'm sitting on a french train to cebere, just had some crazy changeover from the shitty spanish one. French trains are coushty. Basically we were told to get off even though it was meant to go direct and nobody had the slightest clue what was going on - fun. Had a good last day in Barcelona, went and showed Emz the house of bones and La Pedera (More gaudi Stuff) and even went inside the hotel, only cose me €4. It was really good inside, just a general history of Gaudi and his work. We then went off to the Palace and got thoroughly pissed off at some stupid f*****ng skate show that was on right out front of the palace. We had to walk all the way round the outside....bastards. ... read more

Another good day today lots of site seeing mixed with a fair amount of chillaxing didn’t get to see the American dudes again which was a shame, planning on keeping in touch though. Emz and I set off today in search of the Gothic area, which we came across eventually after muchos wandering; I hadn’t been to this area before. So much to see here, the whole place is flooded with fantastic architecture, museums and…other stuff. The most impressive though was definitely the Barcelona Cathedral, which we managed to get into for free, just before it closed, which was nice. Pretty crazy inside, very impressive. Lots of buskers around as well and unlike in England where our buskers are all bums, these guys were damn good. The best was definitely a couple of guys next ... read more

Barcelona Day 1 Europe » Spain » Barcelona By MarcusRJune 28th 2007Paris - Barcelona So had a great nap on the train it was brilliant, we went to sleep in Paris, woke up in Barcelona, crazy shit. We met some cool guys on the train, Emz was in the cabin with them, Diane, Jeff and Jeniffer. While I was in a cabin with some random guy from north Africa, whom I catted with about...god knows I cant remember. Barcelona started with getting our bearings, showing Emz the Sagrada Familia, then hanging out on the beach witth the American guys, who we met up randomly with again, these guys were mental. We had a good chat about everything American... read more
