SegoviaSegoviaSegovia

Early morning shot of a random building in Segovia.
Today my roommate Dan and I woke up at 8:15 after some much needed rest. We started the day with breakfast at the hotel (the best meal I had eaten so far) before departing at 9:30 for the local city of Segovia (1hr:45min away.) We visited “el acueducto” (an aqueduct built in the 1st century that has no mortar holding it together) , “La Plaza Mayor” where we had the chance to buy items at the flea market (and also where I ate the most delicious pastry I have ever consumed), and saw “La Catedral” from the outside—apparently the best side. After this, we walked a short distance to “El Alcazar”—a half castle, half palace structure build on the top of a mountain situated between two rivers. We took a guided tour (in English, thank the lord) and climbed the 152 steps to the top of the main tower. From here, we had lunch at “La Taurina” back in the Plaza Mayor at 2:00. Here we were served paella—the new claimant of the best-meal-in-Madrid award. Then we drove back to the hotel and were told that we had the rest of the day to ourselves. After a short rest in

the hotel, I went to the heart of Madrid on the metro with two of my friends to go shopping and eat “tapas.” It turns out that we skipped shopping and only ate tapas. We did this at about 9:00 while the locals said bad things about us that I could only catch whispers of. From here, we decided to continue our hunt for shopping but instead stumbled upon a gay pride demonstration that was called “Euro Pride.” More interesting than you might think, it was less of a demonstration more of a town party—with live music and plenty of alcohol. Soon after we headed to el metro to reunite with the rest of our friends at the hotel. However, on the way our metro began pulling into the train depot where the trains are kept overnight. Apparently, there had been an announcement about this change of plans that not even the locals heard. After getting yelled at for taking pictures in the train depot, the three of us walked back to the hotel which luckily we knew was only 5 minutes away. Upon walking into the hotel we saw our friends leaving to go to the bar. We joined

them for a pitcher of sangria at the bar right next to our hotel. Now, I go to sleep because I need to wake up at 8:00 to take tours of museums. But that will come tomorrow.
