HI all...it's birthday eve...per Romanian time, I've got another hour till I'm 41 ... can you even? I'm in Brasov, and have been here since we left Cluj ... wow, not Monday (what I thought) but yesterday!? Wow, we've done so much in 2 days...I'm confused by the time!!! From Cluj we drove down and made a few stops. One was in Sighisoara...where Dracula's father used to live. Very cool place...old, cobblestone roads...most leading uphill...there was a church that took 400 years to build...started 13th century (I think?) Lotsa history here. I also found myself waiting for our group of 11...and outside a church...and heard an organ? It was weird...one of those things you wonder if you're not imagining??? Nope, I wasn't! I bailed my group, and had to go check it out! Since I wasn't ... read more

So, last night, I went drinking......-__-" This local girl brought us to this local bar....pretty good...! hey! didnt mix drinks, pretty self controlled.....but.... maybe I didnt have enough dinner, my stomache got sick in the night... didnt throw up or anything, just didn't feel good. It was all fine this morning and I headed out to the Bran, Rinsov and Sinaia tour. Went to Sinaia first.....this time got inside and WOW...its beautiful there!...learned a little more about Romanian history...They only had 4 kings! and they were all within the last 200 years!!! Then, headed off to Bran Castle..that famous Dracula one..SO DISAPPOINTING.... Small, new-looking, and boring. Nothing about dracula. Our guide told us the real story of the count.....nothing about the novel really..HAAAA....but it was interesting to know how he was worshipped within Romania coz ... read more

Let's start with a quiz. In which city was KAOS formed? (all non afficionados of "Get Smart" may tune out now). According to one episode, Bucharest in 1907 (I could be corrected on the date if someone would like to fill me in). My mission, thus, was to find a retired KAOS agent in Bucharest. Preferably a Sigfried or a Starker but I would settle for any of the minors: Dr Yes, Leadside, Bronze Thumb, Simon the Likeable, the Groovy Guru or even the Maestro (if only he had used his baton for good instead of evil). Alas, I came up with nothing. However, I have a theory. A KAOS pension wouldn't provide enough money to cover the exhorbitant cost of accommodation in Bucharest. How does one reconcile that a room costs us 50% more here ... read more

" Got off and went straight to the hostel..and it was NOT OPENED.. sat outside for an hour or so before I manage to get in....-___-" Anyways, Bucharest.........VERY BIG BOOOOMING CITY..... There are constructions EVERYWHERE and dust flying all over the place!!!!! You can really feel the communism style here..... The city people are really....cold...the city is very...cold. Like, it feels soooooo Grey! and well, I also came on a Sunday, so many things were closed. I did manage to see people around the shopping areas and stuff.....but still...with the lively people....its still ....COLD. The HUGE parliament building was ... read more

HI ALL - I'm MUCH better today, YAY! Happy Monday...how lucky am I? Don't think a day doesn't go by that I'm not grateful at my life...the travels, experiences, and THE PEOPLE! I miss all of you ... ! :) I have about 15 mins to type here - same story, I'll be back later to finish where I leave off. Romania has been an experience, to say the least. First of all, to not have to plan / do anything? Having Daniela, Mircea, and her beautiful (inside & out!) sister, Ella, take care of everything has been the HUGEST treat! As most of you know, I do my own thing "on the road," not so much planning specifics, but transport, accomodations, etc. are handled upon arrival. Due to it currently being "high season" (summer months), ... read more

Ok, I hope it's 2 of 2...and I can finish up the wedding details! I think I left off at the first stop...where we picked up Carmen and Simone, and of course, Mircea, the groom! Carmen is a friend of Dana's, they used to work together... and Simona is a cousin. Both speak English! Carmen spent a lot of time with us "Americans." She's not only beautiful, but also an absolute sweetheart, with a smile worth gold! She and Simona were dressed in elegant, green, summer dresses...beautiful. We met them at the first stop, along with Mircea, his dad...all his immediate/close-extended family. We went up to their apartment, which was on either the 3rd or 4th floor. There was a small "lift" (elevator), but everyone chose to march on up! Mircea wasn't even dressed when we ... read more

GOOD SUNDAY MORNING from Cluj, all. It's 11:30am here in Cluj, and I've made it to an internet cafe when it's open, and when I've been available. Its been a couple days...and here goes! This is bound to be a doozie of an entry with so much happening... Ok, first things first...since it's in the forefront of my mind - - - Rudi. Rudi used to be the primary organist at St. Kilian's, the church I go to in CA, where I sing/cantor. He's been very sick for the past couple months, and I just learned via email that he passed away. One of the hardest things about traveling is something like this...leaving for several weeks, knowing someone is ill and that death, as difficult as it is to think about/consider, is a possibility. Or worse, ... read more

HELLO all - Happy Friday! :) GREETINGS FROM ROMANIA! We've arrived in Romania, and so far...it's been great (I know, big surprise - huh?) I've got apx 10-15 mins, so I'm gonna do a quickie! It was WILD to fly into Bucharest, only to find Jerry & Cynthia (J & C) outside to greet me...along with "Ovi" (Daniela's, the bride, godfather) and Andres (her cousin)! The guys are our "chauffers" to Brasov-Cluj. I told you before, Daniela wouldn't allow us to make ANY plans whatsoever, so we're at their mercy - a treat, an honor, really...I feel extremely special! My first impressions of Romania from the plane were 1) the property lots that I saw appeared long and narrow...with a home in the front (or back?) ... and plenty of property for cultivation, maybe? 2) the ... read more

From Romania. One: When we were in Sighisoara, we were wandering around just outside the old city. We were wending our way down a narrow, cobblestone street, when a black cat ran across our path, from one doorway to one opposite, and disappeared inside as if the devil was on its tail. Clearly we were all thinking the same thing. But straight after it, following the same path, came a little old woman in white. At about the same speed. It was so bizarre that we all burst out laughing. Two: When we were waiting for the train in Medias, to get to Budapest, we were playing cards on the platform. I had just taught Sal and Emile a new game, called rent. One of the train guards, for the train that was waiting at the ... read more
