Left Cochem and travelled up the rest of the Mosel valley and then crossed over to the Rhine Valley where they meet in Koblenz. Then the fun started. The day we want to travel down the Rhine (a Sunday), is the one day a year that they close the road along the river for a cycle event that covers most of the valley. Now while this sounds like a great idea and certainly something I am sure the locals love, for your average tourist like Rach & I, it was a complete nightmare. Now lets put this in perspective. The River which of course is bloody long has a road running down both banks, so you have a choice of which side you want to drive. Now personally I think that’s a little odd in itself, ... read more

26th June Monday AUSTRALIA Vs ITALY I slept in this morning and headed straight into town to grab some last minute things like postcards and gifts. I couldn’t find anything that I wanted and was pissed off. It was still a while till the match and people were everywhere. We went to the train station for our free transfer to pick up our actual tickets and waited in line. I was getting so excited!!! Once I got my ticket with my name on it I kissed it, and cheered. I then headed back to camp and got ready super quick. Clackers packed up the tent (thanks man) and we get a lift with Danny (the t-shirt guy) to the train station. The car ride was an absolute crack up. The car was tiny and it had ... read more

Only ended up staying in Luxembourg for one night and then headed off into Germany and up the Mosel Valley. Wineries on both sides of the valley and sometimes you wonder how the hell they manage to operate them seeing as some of them are hanging off the side of a cliff. At this point I should also apologise if a few stray letters appear in the text but I am typing on a German keyboard and a few letters are in different places (eg the y & z are swapped around) so forgive any spelling mistakes. Spent the night in a great little town called Cochem, although we chickened out of the camping, and instead stayed in a really nice little hotel on the river overlooking the town and castle. The Germans were playing just ... read more

Tuesday, the 20th of June Our original plan when we walked the 2km down to the train station yesterday was purchasing tickets to Triere, and we’d ride from there to Köln. We looked at the map again before bed, and realized we’d blown our math again and couldn’t make it to Köln. Math is hard! So, when we got to the train station this morning we spent 20 minutes or so getting the tickets exchanged for Cochem, quite a bit further down the river. The Luxembourg train station has an AMAZING amount of traffic going through it! Luxembourg’s population basically doubles during the workday with all of the workers for the European Union government commuting in from surrounding countries, mostly by train. While we were on the train we met a 67 year old retired German ... read more

Day 18, 18th June. Wesserling - Bonn - Remagen A bit Queezy!!! I was up all night with the worse sickness and diarrhea I’ve ever had. I didn’t realize my body could contain so much puke, yuch! Rory helped me out and stood in some of my vomit in the process. It must have been some sort of food poisoning. At 10.30 we set off, I felt weak, but we found the Rhein and continued to Bonn where the guys got their bikes fixed and other bits added too… Toby became one of the ‘Brookes squad’ and then his front pannier rack broke! At Remagen we stocked up on food, after only about 30 miles I was weak, we decided to camp on the site there. It was raining as I pitched tent at 5pm. I ... read more

Luxembourg While booking travel arrangements for the Mosel Valley, we realized that our destination was only 90 minutes away from Luxembourg City. A few extra hours of travel would allow us to add another country to the list, so Jer and I jumped on the opportunity. There was not a ton to see there, but the highlight was the caves, which were located on the border of the ruins of the old castle area. Other than the addition to the list of countries visited, Luxembourg City is probably worth a pass. Bernkastel-Kues One of my favorite wine regions in the world is the Mosel is southwestern Germany. It is primarily known for rieslings, and one of their most well known producers is Dr. Loosen, whose winery is located right next to Bernkastel. Since we did not ... read more

15th June Thursday The boys gave me their numbers and left for Munich on the train. I wasn’t sure what was the cheapest way to get there so I waited for Rowdy and Simon to investigate our options. The man that worked at FanCamp insisted I get a photo with him (!!!) and we headed to the trains. It ended up that train was actually our only option so we got a 5 day pass and we were on our way. When we arrived we met up with some of Rowdy’s mates and found some accommodation at 4You. It was complete luxury for me with our own bathroom. We checked out the main street and later on Rowdy and I got to properly catch up, although I think I talked his ears off. 16th June Friday ... read more

10th June Saturday. I wake up on the plane in Munich to see an absolutely beautiful sunrise. I was a little confused as to how to get to Kaiserslautern (will now be known as K-Town) and as it was so early in the morning and everything was closed I slept on a bench with my pack to cuddle. My ticket ended up costing me 79 Euros (bloody expensive) but the train was very comfortable and the scenery was very beautiful and green. The houses are very different to what I have seen on my travels so far, cute little white things with brown high pitched roofs, very village looking. When I arrived in K-Town I had a 20min walk with my pack and I guess 3 weeks of not using it really made a difference. I ... read more

6:36pm Breakfast this morning was at 7:00 am… I think I woke up a little after 5:30 am this morning. Breakfast was the same, so I had 2 Melba toast and Dramamine. Packed my overnight bag and boarded the bus at 7:30. Adios, Amsterdam! The bus ride to Germany wasn’t so bad. Our first stop was in Cologne. We had a chance to go through the Cathedral, which was gorgeous. I got some really cool shots from the inside. We had about a half hour to kill before we had to meet, so we wandered around the train station. We stopped at a stand and had a delicious wurst croissant (€1.75) which tasted just like a corndog. Mmmm.. I also bought a smoothie later, but it was not so great (€2.75). The train station is right ... read more
