Haven't written in a few days 'cause it's been a pretty uneventful week. Went to see the new Harry Potter movie on Tue. with Jaime and Matt. It was good. Wed. Matt and I made tortillas and then had quesadillas for dinner. yummy... was good times. Other than that I've spent my time reading and starting to do research for my presentation in January. Melissa and Graham (both graduates of Hamline that are living in Germany) are here for the weekend. Matt and I met Graham at the train station and then walked around the christmas market for a while. Sat in a cafe and drank some Gluehwein (a hot red wine drink that you can only get around christmas time). It was nice, we had some time to kill before Melissa arrived from Berlin. Unfortunately ... read more

What a great Mon. this turned out to be. =) Started off perfect... I got to sleep in an hour later than usual... that's always a good thing. I even had time to start reading an article for my afternoon class. And, I actually understand all of it. It's a very interesting article about the term 'Underdeveloped coutries' and why it's better than the more politically correct terms. Quite interesting. And I'm soooo excited that I understand it! (and yes it is in German). I'm not even having to look up very many words... what a good feeling that is. hehe... There was snow on the ground this morning.... how beautiful =) (unfortunately it's now all melted) My first class of the day was nothing spectacular. Actually it was pretty boring, but that happens. Then after ... read more

What a great Thanksgiving day and quite an interesting one. The morning was quite hectic. I went to the comp room early in the morning to double check a couple recipes for dinner. I came back to my place and checked my mail and finally my laptop had arrived!!! (Well, I got a letter telling me that it had arrived and I needed to pick it up). Of course I had to pick it up at customs and pay the tax on it (for shipping it from the US). When I first read the letter I understood that I had to pick it up at the Main Customs Office in Koblenz. That's a two hour train ride from here. I was really really bummed (I'd been waiting for it to get here for about a week). ... read more

It's been a good week so far. Mon. night salsa class was fun. Tue., my prof actually showed up to class (granted 10 min. late, but it was an imporvement). A lecture class is really boring cause ally ou do for an hour n' a half is listen to a prof ramble on, but it's not too bad. At least I can understand most everything. Spent the rest of the day reading for my International Plolitics class, but at least I understood the articles. =) A great improvement over the last article I had to read for that class. Tue. night I went to a jazz bar with Matt, Jaime and her boyfriend. It was really nice. The bar was down in a cellar and the atmosphere was just perfect for jazz. Yesterday was a pretty ... read more

Not much happened this weekend. Fri. I met with Thomas, the guy that I'm helping with his English conversation. I ended up having a really bad headache, so after that I decided to just stay home and go to bed early. It was kinda nice to just relax. I then got up early to work on more of my reading. I spent all day Sat. reading and trying to understand the readings, but as of yet, now luck. After reading all day I was also exhausted so I went to bed early again so I could get up early Sun. and start reading again. Read all morning Sun. (I still don't have much an idea of what I read). It's getting really frustruating. Oh well, I knew it wasn't gonna be easy. Sun afternoon and evening ... read more

Yeah, I can access this site again. I haven't been able to get to this site since Tue. I kept getting a message from the University of Trier that I couldn't understand and thought for some reason they had blocked this site. I was really sad. Anyway, it's all good now. This past week has been pretty good. If you haven't seen the movie Hotel Rwanda, I would really recommend seeing it. It's a very heavy and moving movie. I really think it presents the issues surrounding the genocide very well. It makes me soo mad that the international community knew that genocide was being committed and yet we all turned a blind eye. Why do we continue to do that? We keep lying to ourselves saying that genocide will never happen again and yet it ... read more

Have you ever been to a class where the prof. just doesn't show? I have, I have. It sucks. Especially when it's an 8 o'clock class. I could've slept in and now I don't know if that class is still taking place and if I can still take it if it is. Ugh!!! I might have to rearrange my whole schedule cause all of the other lectures that I would be interested in taking don't fit my schedule now. I waited a half hour for the prof and he didn't come. So I left when most of the other students left too. It really was a wierd situation cause nobody really knew what to do. Especially since it was the first day of class which usually means if you're not there, you get dropped from the ... read more

Another great weekend in Trier. Sat. was a great day. Matt came over and we made tortillas together. It was a lot of fun. Matt even managed to roll one into the shape of Germany (not on purpose) and another one into kinda of the shape of Africa. It was quite entertaining. I have pictures, but don't have enough time right now to load the pics. (I have class in a bit). I'll try to get them up this week though. After we were done making em, we made ourselves some quesadillas...mmmmmm... soooo good. Sat. night Matt and I went into town for Honky Tonk Trier. There were 16 different bands that were playing at different bars in town. (they were all within walking distance) At the bus station we ran into Dennis and Manolo. (Dennis ... read more

Pretty good day yesterday. Didn't do a whole lot besides read and study, but ehh... that's the way school goes. It's really nice having a long weekend though 'cause nothing feels rushed. I found out my results from my placement exam... I placed in the intermediate level instead of advanced like I had hoped for. Oh well, after the exam I had pretty much figured that that's what I would place in. It's not bad either. Luckily I wasn't planning on taking any courses that are only available to students that placed in the advanced level. The course I'm taking, Academic Writing, has two sessions available, one for intermediate and one for advanced, so it all works out. I was a little dissapointed when i found out, but it was a written exam and my writing ... read more

Yesterday was overall a very nice day. Didn't have any classes. =) I planned to do some cooking, cleaning and of course hw and studying. I most all of that, maybe not as much as I planned, but ehh.. that's what I have today for. =) Anyway.. yesterday while I was online I wrote down a recipe I found for chorizo. I was so excited and of course had to make it yesterday. (It'll be ready on Sun, so I'll let you know how it turned out on Mon.) A really good lesson that I learned though while making it: After handling peppers (even dried) DO NOT touch your face at all. At the same time I was making the chorizo, I was also making myself lunch (mmmm...sloppy joes) and mixed the meat and of course ... read more
