Weds 15th February Ferry Dover to Dunkirk, "moderate to rough conditions ahead. Stay in your seats as much as possible." Quite a swell but gradually improved, must have missed the worst of it. Easy drive up to Ostend, arriving in daylight. Parked in the underground section of the Mijn Plein car park as Thursday is market day on the ground level. Collected Simon's keys from the ESP. Takeaway pizza for tea from a place at the end of Hertstraat. Very good but not so warm by the time we got it back to the apartment. Rory/Owen had figured out how to work the DVD player so we sat through 'Anger Management' starring Jack Nicholson and someone else. Apart from the scene featuring 'I feel pretty' on a NY bridge in rush hour I wouyld say don't ... read more

The semester is now over! Took my last exam today. And it went pretty well. It's such a good feeling to be done. My exam yesterday wasn't too bad either. Not the greatest, but I definetly passed. Things are coming to an end here really quickly. Last night I met with my referat group. The four of us met at one of the nearby bars to celebrate being done with our referat. Julia, Tina and Sabine are all very nice. It was fun to hang out with them for a few hours. It's too bad we didn't have to do our presentation earlier in the Semester. It would have been nice to have met them earlier and had time to hang out with them. Oh well.... that's the crummy thing about just being here for a ... read more

Well, this was it... my last weekend in Trier is now over. Can't believe that in 6 days I'll be moving out. It's gone by really quickly. This weekend was nice. Fri. I had lunch with Katrin. That was nice cause we really haven't had much time to hang out. I met some of her friends and one of em actually lives in my building. =) That was kind of cool, but stinks cause I'm leaving in a week... Oh well, that's usually how it goes. Fri. night I had dinner at Katrin's and hung out at her place. It was nice to just kick back with her. Yesterday I spent the morning studying... oh fun... not much longer though... can't wait till it's all over. At like 4 Matt was able to locate a key ... read more

Sorry guys, I'm like bouncing off the walls with excitement. Just got back from my exam in my Introduction to International Relations and International Politics: .The Europeanization of national international, security and development politics. The oral exam was about 30 min. long, but I really wasn't that nervous. The first few questions that he asked me didn't even have to do with the class. They were about difference I've noticed between Universities in the US and Germany and what students expect. Also differences in the political culture between the two countries. After that he asked questions about the course.... most of which were questions on things that I didn't study. I studied the things that came up multiple times in class, thinking those would most likely be one's to come up. Nope... not really. Although I ... read more

What have I been up to since I last wrote? Didn't do much during the week except work on my presentation. The week was pretty uneventful. Fri. was fun though. Fri. afternoon Matt, and I went grocery shopping for stuff to make dinner. At 5 he came over and he made the tortillas while I started making fried ice cream and washed dishes. Trying to make fried ice cream was quite an experience. The ice cream first had to be rolled into balls, which was pretty messy and then stuck in the freezer for an hour. After finishing that and cleaning up a bit. I helped Matt finish the tortillas. We chilled for a bit and crushed the cornflakes for the ice cream. After the ice cream had chilled for an hour I took the balls ... read more

Morning everyone, I've been meaning to write again, but somehow the time just keeps disappearing. So, I'm writing before class 'cause I know once I start working on things I'll run out of time again. The rest of my Christmas break was really nice. Mama and Papa came back from Spain in the evening of the 1st. They both had the day off on the 2nd, so we went to Essen in the afternoon. They had to exchange a jacket and I just went along for the ride. =) As we were leaving, we saw the movie theater and decided we'd see if anything good was playing. There was, but we had time for dinner first so we ate at New Orleans. hehe.. I had a Chicken Ceasar Salad... hadn't realized how much I had missed ... read more

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! Hello Everyone!!! I have so much to report but I don't have much time to so I'm just going to give you all a quick update of where we've been so far (Jack and I). We started our trip in Pisa, Italy. I wanted to go see the leaning tower but we arrived in the late afternoon and didn't think we would be able to make it there and back to the train station to catch the train to Florence at a decent hour to get to Florence and find a hostel. So we just went start to Florence from the train Station. In Firenta (Florence) we saw a lot of great things, can't really remember all the names of it, it's in my journal. I'll fill you in when I have more time. ... read more

yeah, so my day wasn't that bad, 'cause I decided I wasn't going to let it, but man did it sure start out pretty crummy. First class of the day (at 8:30 I might add) was my academic writing class which is a joke, but oh well.. Anyway, talked to the prof. and found out I probably won't be able to get credit for the class. The semester here doesn't end until the end of Feb. so I'll be missing a month of class which equates to like 4 or 5 class periods. The head of the DAF (German as a foriegn language) program said that's too much and I can't get graded for the class which means now credit. Every other department on this campus is willing to work with students knowing that the semester ... read more

A great and hilarious day. Got up early and worked some more on my reading, went grocery shopping and so forth. Nothing really interesting. Then around 12 Matt, Graham, Melissa and I went to the Christmas Market. It was really nice but sooooooo packed. At some points you could hardly move cause there were so many people. I hate crowds like that. It was still fun though. We walked around and looked at all the booths and the different food that you could buy. We stopped at a booth that had something that looked like little mini pancakes. They were Poffertjes from the Netherlands. There were two griddles with little round circles in em that the guy poured dough into. He then used a little pronged fork to flip them. They cooked really quickly. Of course ... read more
