Day 8 – The flight to Dubai where we transited to Frankfurt was at least 30 minutes early and the scheduled departure 20 minutes later so we were left with over 3 hours to kill at Dubai airport. However it is so strung out it took a good half an hour to get to our gate via lifts, escalators, a train and more lifts and added to that a break for a coffee and snack the time didn’t drag too much. However, given we had no more than 30 minutes sleep on the flight to Dubai we were both feeling pretty jaded by the time we boarded the Frankfurt-bound flight at 3 am. The flight to Frankfurt was very smooth – although we ended up with an exit row seat which was great for legroom it ... read more

What a Day this has been!!!! (start of a song from one of my favorite musicals!) What a rare mood I'm in!!! WOW! Today was a travel day from Rome to Frankfurt. It is here that we will meet up with our tour guide from Image Tours and start our two week guided tour around Europe. Our driver showed up a little early so we were rushing around trying not to hold him up. No lift, so we had to drag our suitcases upstairs and through the gravel courtyard to the street! We got to the airport way, way early which Is rushing! We get to Lufthansa only to find out we have to check our carry ons because, as the agent said, they were too big. Now we have covered 5 airports so far ... read more

So, Frankfurt is literally a shit show on Sunday mornings around the train station... Literally human shit in the underpass and on the subway platform. 3 shits in the less than 10min walk to the subway platform. Wow, guys. I'm really in a rush to return here lol. Fun fact: Frankfurt is actually the first city in continental Europe that I stepped foot it, and boy am I glad that the first time I was here I didn't come anywhere near the train station lol. Would have put a bit of a damper on my introduction to travelling all those years ago... ahem. Anyway. Thankfully the Old Town was a poop-free zone. I headed off to see the cathedral and the area around there. I mentioned I'm at the point of my trip where I'm losing ... read more

Our train to Frankfurt didn't leave until after lunch and our hotel did a Sunday brunch......YUM! Shrimps, jumbo prawn, crabs, oysters, salads, then beef, chicken and more prawn on the bar b que, as well as lots of dessert choices, wish we had more time just to sit and enjoy but it was a case if eat and run, still good though! Arrived in Frankfurt 4.30pm, staying at a hotel in the airport complex as we are really only here a couple of nights so as to catch the plane to Ireland. The initial plan had been to catch the train back into Frankfurt and spend Monday having a look round, but with Monday being a public holiday we ended up spending the day wandering round the airport shops, which were the only ones open in ... read more

Geo: 50.0924, 8.68195Today, we were going to go separate ways, Clint was going to the Trade Show, and Nikki and I were going to go sightseeing on a Hop on, Hop off bus around Frankfurt. We showered and went down for breakfast, such a busy little breakfast room with so many people getting ready also to go to the trade fair. Again, we ate till we popped, and then walked to the train station, seeing Clint off at the tram stop out the front of the Main Train station. Nikki and I went inside to get our tickets for the bus, €15 each for all day.We jumped on the blue double decker bus outside and awaited our departure. We sat up the top so we had a better view. Once started, we crossed over the Rhine ... read more

Geo: 50.0924, 8.68195Actually had a good nights sleep for once, but still woke up at 4.12am. So checked Facebook, emails, same old office stuff!! About 6.30, woke Clint and then once again, jumped out of bed for showers and breakfast. We got to the breakfast room and there was so many people there and we had to wait for a table. A lady made room for us at her table and we sat down and got breakfast. We got ready to go to the trade fair, and then we walked to the tram stop across the road to catch the No 16 tram to the fair. We travelled 4 stops then half the people on the tram got off!! Clint raced to the line up, so excited he was actually here! Today, Nikki was experiencing her ... read more

Geo: 50.0924, 8.68195One of these days, I'm going to get a decent night sleep, still having trouble sleeping, and it doesn't help when 2 people snore! We had showers, and we went to the ground floor for breakfast, all we seem to do is eat!! The breakfast was included in this hotel, once again, there is so many choices, breads, croissants, cereals and yogurts, fruits, jams, sliced meats and as always, coffee!!Our next train to Frankfurt is at 10.00am, so instead of having to go back to get our bags, we took them with us. Today we are leaving Switzerland and heading to Germany. As we are going to a different country, I thought we would need to get our passports stamped, but no sign of any customs place. As we were early, our train time wasn't ... read more

Geo: 50.0924, 8.68195I slept in and nearly missed brekkies. We took the train to town then walked to the Museum but no Vermeer – did see a few other things but didn't have the time to linger. Then back to the airport. My flight was on time, landed early. Pas was delayed 90 minutes (even though he was boarding when I went to my gate next door), and then he had to spend the night in Washington, DC. Gruden just slept and barely greeted me with whining when he woke up. Way to make me feel missed, dog.... read more

Geo: 50.0924, 8.68195We landed Frankfurt early. We were only two of a handful of people from our flight (on a 747!) that exited the airport. Not surprising, as I've never left Frankfurt airport before. A lovely day – clear and sunny. We had a long drive, mostly along the autobahn. A few Audis flashed by. We had periodic glimpses of the surrounding countryside. It was an easy drive as well. Mostly, anyway. For some odd reason, neither of our map programs would work. We had both downloaded all of Germany, but my map of the region we were driving to was missing. Fortuantley, National Car Rental had provided us with a Garmin, and it worked well. Once we figured it out. The car – a Skoda small SUV – is fine. Pas found the door lock ... read more
