July 13, 2023 – Touch down in the Father Land
I wake up to something or someone tickling my hand, it’s Kirsten and they are setting down my breakfast in front of me. “Vould yous like some koffee Her Wangan?”. Ya, Ya.
Kirsten ordered me the 3-cheese quiche, talk about rich I could only eat half of it. The koffee was GREAT.
We’re landing and I’m thinking the pilot is bring in this plane in hot, or Maverick from TopGun is flying.
We are off the plane and head to immigration, Kirsten goes first, as she speaks German like she’s lived her all her life. I go next, he looks at me, then looks toward Kirsten walking away and says Kirsten’s husband. Yea, that’s my name. He stamps my passport and I move on.
Kirsten asks what did he say? He told me to get my name updated on my passport to Kirsten’s Husband.
We find the car rental and get upgraded to a larger SUV, so that when Caroline and Bea arrive, we won’t be so cramped.
Out the door and into the car we go. I have entered our hotel into the
navigation system, and I’m ready. I look at Kirsten and she says I can’t figure out how to put it into reverse, déjà vu we had this issue years ago. I ordered an automatic so it would be easier, what gives?
This new Volvo has an odd toggle shifter, after a few more attempts we are in reverse. After a few more attempts we are in drive. Things are changing.
Finally, we on the road heading toward Germany’s wine road. Our hotel reservations is located in the village of Sankt Martin, which is located in the middle of the wine region.
Kirsten picked this hotel out because the pictures were so cute.
After an hour on the road, we arrive at our hotel, we check in decided to ride to the next town over where the E-Bike rental is located and reserved 2 E-bikes for the next day.
As were pulling back into Sankt Martin Kirsten whips to car into a winery and say can I buy you a glass of wine.
Why yes, I would love a glass of wine. We go inside and was met with an empty glass and the gentleman
pointed us to all their different wines to sample. He said find one you like and then you can purchase a glass or bottle or just continue to sample. We find a very nice light white wine, cool and refreshing, we ordered a bottle which we brought to us in an ice bag container to keep it chilled. We then walked out to their garden area sat under an umbrella table and drank our bottle of wine.
I don’t know if it was the wine or the atmosphere, but we were sooo relaxed. We both knew we needed to go back to our room and nap.
After our nap we got up and walked the town looking for a cute place to eat. They were all cute, so we decided to return to our hotel and have dinner. They had a table ready for us, we sat down and had a very delicious meal.
When we finished our meal, it was approaching 10 pm and we were dragging. So up to our room we went.
Tomorrow, we begin Wining through the vineyards.
Good night.
