This was a lot of fun! We started off the evening "checking in" to our chateaux, really it was an extremely old french mansion and we stayed there with everyone on the same floor with 2 toilets for 40+ ppl. But being able to brush your teeth and look out the window at a vinery in the french countryside is priceless! We then went to a place where wine is made and had winetasting with cheese- it was also good. We ended up buying two bottles- pretty cheap though for excellent cab- the funny part was that it was all the canadians left at the end who stayed trying to get seconds (which we did!) After dinner there was a big party themed Shock Your Mother, meaning you had to dress in a way that would ... read more

they are gorgeous!! i had a day trip out to giverny (in normandy) to see the house and gardens that claude monet lived in for about 50 years. he painted all the famous ones there eg waterlillies, the japanese bridge etc. it's such a nice place. i took a train to vernon (about a 45 min trip) then a 15 min bus ride into giverny. it was lovely weather today. sunny but a little bit cool, so perfect for walking. the gardens are gorgeous. they are so well kept and they look like the paintings do. the pond and the japanese bridge are beautiful too. i was in time for the wisteria and the tulips, but missed the daffodils and waterlillies. oh well. i can't have everything i suppose. yesterday was good too. i caught up ... read more

Hey Guys, So we are back tracking a bit to tell you about what we,ve done so far... so bear with us here. We,ve had limited internet access. Anyways Paris was absolutely amazing- it blew both of us away and it was much better than expected. Although we were with our tour group that day we pretty much went on our own. After leaving London we saw the white cliffs of dover and took a ferry across the channel. Then our tour took us on an evening tour of the main landmarks in Paris which was really cool and we got some great pictures! Seeing the Eiffel Tower for the first time was crazy' it was just fantastic. The next day we were SUPPOSED to get up and have breakfast with the group then head on ... read more

well, my trip started off in devon, lovely tom gave me a lift to exeter airport at 4.30am!!!! i got to paris charles de gaulle airport early this morning, luckily i didnt have any checked in luggage, you dont need much for three days. i got outside and tryed to find the bus, but i could not, went down stairs to arrivals and got lost, then was told the best one to get although expensive was the air france 4 (from where id just left) that would take me to montparnasse, although that is quite a way from montmartre i got it to get me out of the airport, and im glad i did, when i stepped off the bus at montparnasse da gare the first thing that greeted me was the beautiful smell of the ... read more

Overnight bussed to Paris. Ferried from Dover to Calais and could still see the "white cliffs" at midnight. Snoozed most of the way and arrived in Paris without any euros. Naturally there were no ATMs at the bus statioon, so I ambled off into the financial district which seemed particualrly lacking in banks. Finally made it to the Peace and Love Hostel, which had around 50 stairs up to my room and they were almost vertical. I got stuck with my back pack, so heavens knows how people with real back packs cope. It was cool though, in Montmartre, which is apparently the red light district but handy to catch the metro into the city centre. Dumped the bags and hit the Musee DÓrsay on the first day and that was fully worth the effort. Fabulous ... read more

today as you can probably tell was a day spent visiting churches. actually only two but they were big so it equals more!! there was supposed to be a guided tour of the notre dame at 12, but today was a public holiday (ascension day) and funnily enough it wasn't on. they had a service on so i stayed and watched that for about an hour. geez they do some funny things in the big church services. i had absolutely no idea what was going on (well, i suppose it was in french!!) then i went over to the sainte chapelle. also big, but not nearly as big as the notre dame. louis XIV (again) built this church to house a part of the cross and jesus' crown of thorns that he bought for lots of ... read more

wow, what an amazing place! it is undescribably massive. i went by train - got on the wrong one so went the long way around. it took over an hour, instead of 30 mins, but it was all good - ended up at the right spot. i did a tour of the state rooms. what can i say - the most amount of gold i've ever seen in one place. it was built for louis XIV because he was living in the louvre and thought that was too small!! he was called the sun king because he loved gold so much - so obvious from his house! i just went through one tiny part of it - it took me 2 hours to walk through! not that tiny! the part i was in had 5 drawing ... read more
