Paris - where to stay?

Going to Paris in 2 weeks for a friends party - need a fun, lively area to be in near to Gare de Nord. And of course a hotel/hostel nearby.

A couple of us are tagging along with a 'superstar' dj friend as he plays a gig in Paris and I need some recommendations from you lot - good bars/ cafes/streets hotels - for a weekend.

Nothing romantic, more parisian street life and cool areas!

We're arriving on eurostar so places nearish to Gare de Nord please

Thanks

The 18th is really pretty (Montmartre is there), but it's outside the centre and I wouldn't really suggest it, you would always have to travel by public transport, around 20-25 minutes. The place you're talking about is actually quite close to the Marais (11th arr.). My tip is the 4th arr., something close to the Pompidou. Then you're really close to anything you wish, and the 4th itself is full of bars and pubs (many gay).

Another cool area, is the Latin Quarter, very lively!

I'm going to Paris time by time and can only agree with others that Marais would be the one to enjoy for you! Love that place. Reply to this

Yeah it was nice - stayed near Oberkampf area - you can walk to most important spots and cabs are pretty cheap.
Nice bar called kitch bar on Ober with savage mojitos. Some good french-packed bars in the side streets with busy terraces.
Not a patch on London, New York or Berlin i'm afraid though. Reply to this

I would recommend Esprit Saint Germain hotel. It is a charming hotel situated in the heart of Saint Germain des Prés on the left bank. This deluxe hotel is close to the most prestigious monuments and museums: Orsay Museum, Louvre Museum, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Church of Saint Sulpice…You can find more information at <snip> I hope you'll enjoy it.

I agree completely with everything Sandra01 has said. However, hotels in this location can prove to be a little pricey depending on the time of year you're visiting, so don't settle on a hotel without searching for other options first - I've never stayed in a bad hotel in paris in all the years i've been travelling to the capital, including 2 star hotels and upward.

I hope you have a great stay in Paris, it's one of the most magical places you'll ever visit, particularly in the winter which is my favourite time of year 😉

Cheers

Mat

Before going to Paris, may I suggest a few precautions, if I may, see my blog http://www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/malti/. Thanks

Now, I have just returned from Paris, last weekend.
I was staying near Gare du Nord. The 3 star hotel was Aulivia Opera http://www.astotel.com/uk/hotel-aulivia-opera-paris.php. It is just two stations down from Gare du Nord, at Chateau d'Eau station. The hotel is small, with small rooms , in an area full of coloured people, with the reception speaks perfect English, and very helpful. You ask them a place to go, and they will show it to you on a map, with the nearest bus or station ! Clean, with CNN BBC tv airconditioning and cenral heating. Buffet breakfast. The area is full with bars and restaurants. From the same street, you can walk it to Paris main shopping centre, at Lafayette, behind the opera house. Reply to this

Paris visit is a great idea always,i remember last month when i was on my Paris trip we had so much fun. We were rented an apartment in 16th arrondissement because it is near the Roland garros stadium. That time i search about Paris so intensely that i gain quite a knowledge about Paris. I know i am a bit late but for future purpose remember Gare de Nord is near 9 th and 10th arrondissement you can easily find a rental apartment there. Rental apartment in Paris offers you various standards, like luxury and economy.
