Laruns – donderdag 12 mei 2022 Computer zei : Aankomst 12:30u, hoogte 1263m, 25°, 60 km, verbruik 14,4 l /100km, gemiddeld 33 km/u, reisduur 1:50 uur. Volkomen rust. Een Hollandse buur. Geen verkeer onder weg. Wie zou ... read more

Oloron-Sainte-Marie – woensdag 11 mei 2022 Computer zei : Aankomst 12:15u, 19°, 71 km, verbruik 9,9 L/100km, gemiddeld 38 km/u, reisduur 2:00 uur. In 't vervolg langer slapen. ... read more

I slept for a few hours at a time, and had no problem getting up about 6am. We had decided to use the backpack service for our backpacks and take the small one. I'm glad we did! We dropped off the backpacks at the main office and strolled around outside until 7am when breakfast was served. It was anything special, just coffee (in a bowl!), bread, orange juice and jam for the bread. We finished our breakfast and were on our way before 7:30am. The trail started steep, and didn't change much, except to get even steeper! Just after 8:30am we reached the Virgen, so we stopped for a short break. There was no food truck, but we discovered later that apparently he parks further along the trail until just before noon, then moves to Virgen ... read more

After our morning with aeroplanes it was time to travel from the North East of the city to the South West and the Halle de Machines. Crossing the city we came across the usual bag of deviations, of routes baree and strange instructions from Silly Sat Nag. We had already bought our tickets for the Halle de Machines and for a ride on the back of a Minotaur. They were booked for tomorrow and we were here a day too early. We had two choices . Hang around and visit tomorrow or risk trying our luck and seeing if we could exchange the tickets for today. We felt positive we could get into the Halle today but the Minotaur ride might be more problematic . So decision time . We struggled to find the Halle . ... read more

From Crusaders entering Jerusalem to Chagall stained glass and from the washing of feet to the Wedding at Cana in Galilee we had seen the lot today. Gabby was still parked on the town aire and we had been inside the abbey church . Now it was time to see what was described as the most complete and perfect cloister in France if not the whole of the world . The cloisters or so we had read were particularly early , particularly beautiful and comprised of arcades of single and double columns with decorated capitals . Of the 76 columns half were Biblical stories or episodes in the lives of the saints . The remaining columns featured anything and everything about creation . Described as decoratives the columns completed in 1100 comprised of flowers , leaves ... read more

And now for something a little different to yesterday . After the cloisters our first stop was to dump our grey waste, empty the chemical toilet , fill up with water and try to find a petrol station. One that worked . We were heading for Toulouse and Aeroscopia which sells itself as interactive, entertaining , an exhibition of legendary aircraft such as Concorde , the Caravelle and the Super Guppy. We drove back to the LeClerc supermarket . Parked in front of the machine and followed the instructions which started off in English but reverted to pictures and french . Insert card. Follow the instructions on the keypad. Pop your PIN number in. Take card out. What next ? The machine then told us that we should pick our pump. Pump 4 picked . Did ... read more

Blog Number one from Moissac . So where in the world is Gabby the motorhome and her motley crew . On another drizzly mizzly day we had parked up at the camping car aire in the middle of Moissac. We had come to the conclusion that Covid had changed the world and there were few people about , shops had closed and petrol stations were now unmanned . We flew past a few and were driving on fumes by the time we reached our night stop. 9.euros 40 cents later we had entered the spot we would spend the night . We had crossed the very impressive Napoleon Bridge and followed the river to get here . We were within walking distance of the town and its world famous abbey cloisters. There were 43 spots on ... read more

Packing up to leave our sodden campsite at Roses was quite traumatic and best forgotten if we ever want to visit the Bay of Roses again. Let's just say it involved putting blue plastic carrier bags round our feet to traverse the ground between the van and more solid stretches of ground. A collection of mucky towel-wrapped things stored away in the shower we set off to Roses. Bob in the van and me behind in the car as had to hand it back to the hire place, albeit a day early. First time I've driven on the right for a lot of years but an automatic Fiat 500 was not a challenge and we left it outside Autohire, popped key in the key safe, sent photo of car to car hire to let them know ... read more

First of all I must note that I am finding it very hard placing ourselves in the correct region of France. Bressols is in Occitanie, near Montauban and not in midi-pyrenees as this blog says but that is the only place i can put it ! Another driving day and though this blog is brief the drive was not. Woken by the geese in the property behind us and what another gorgeous blue sky to start the day. Lovely to stroll into the village from our peaceful spot by the canal for a fresh baguette for breakfast before setting off on our drive. We started off on quiet N roads through the villages and along the incredible straight stretches of road which are so characteristic of France. How we have missed roads like this ! Bob ... read more
