Today we drove down to the town of Figeac in the car for a visit. Lovely place indeed, just filled with gorgeous old buildings. Being a Sunday is a was nice and sleepy with not too many other tourists walking around. We stopped for a coffee and later decided to buy little quiches at a boulangerie but were then stuck to find anywhere to sit to eat them and we needed a drink anyway. We settled at a cafe table under the market hall in the central square and drank our drinks while secretly eating our quiche when the waitress wasn’t looking. We weren’t being mean in not eating the café’s food, we had just fancied the quiche. The waitress was a bit drippy anyway (said they didn’t have jus d’abricot but when I asked what ... read more

Our wedding anniversary today. 28 years. I think we have been on holiday for at least 25 of the anniversaries 😊 which makes celebrating easy. Today we were heading for a campsite with a restaurant so Bob suggested we would eat there for dinner but I had been checking the reviews which reported the campsite restaurant was only open July and August so that snookered that idea. Another hot day and a little alarmingly when I was reading about the campsite the pool appeared to be closed on Saturday. Not 100% sure about that as the campsite in French said Samedi but the English version said Sunday which is tomorrow. Inexplicable that it could be closed any day at the weekend but it seemed likely that it would be one day or the other. We had ... read more

The plan was to explore the town, the central market, the train station, real estate agencies to check our rents, but the best laid plans. Post Covid and Post 50, there comes that point in every trip, where our bodies just say NO. Today was that day. Jerry’s allergies were really bothering him, and the aches and pains for both of us just required a day of rest. I went down to breakfast and at the end had a tray made for Jerry and brought it back to the room for him. One of my fondest memories of this place was the three-minute egg machine and it was still here. I did not master it today, but I will tomorrow. It really takes more like 5 minutes, but both of my attempts were under cooked, the ... read more

A Change in Plans Sometime during the day at Chateauneuf, we received an e-mail from the restaurant we were going to be having lunch at when we arrived in Toulouse, informing us of some major street and parking closures in the center. The parking structure we were going to use and the central metro stop were all closed for the day, and would make getting to and from the restaurant difficult. Well, it was also going to make getting to and from our hotel almost impossible and getting around the city even more difficult. That e-mail changed entirely the direction of our travels. The next three days were to be Perpignan (near the Spanish boarder), Toulouse and Pau. We needed to make some decisions, so we decided to not go to Perpignan or Toulouse and instead ... read more

Dinner last night was had at L‘Atelier Gourmande, or for those of us whose French is a bit rusty- non existent - it’s the Gourmet Workshop. It is located up an alleyway, away from the bustling cafe scene around the Place Plumereau, the plaza a few doors up from our apartment. We were greeted at the door by the two main men of this operation, and seated at shiny tables topped with a solid, finely scuffed piece of stainless steel plate. The seats were clear chequered plastic, and that’s where the funky look finished. Water and bread slid onto the table before we had our coats off. It was replaced often during our meal, once the cane basked looked low; it was never empty, and either there was a huge bin of wasted bread out the ... read more

Days three and four Day three began sloooowly, but early. The worlds loudest rooster seems to be stationed outside our window. That was lovely especially when another rooster started playing call and response...... After a late leisurely brekkie we headed up the road to the parc prehistorique. It was awesome, perfect weather, perfect views, loads to do, being attacked by man eating butterflies, seeing all the wildlife and dodging wasps (I may not have mentioned but I got stung on the neck......) Despite Seth's desperation to get home to unearth his new fossils from his gift shop purchase I bought everything in the supermarket on the way back, except fly catcher things, something I now regret, having said how few flies there were that seems to have been their call to arms and there are now ... read more

Days one and two This year's ridiculousness started the day before we left when a friendly wasp took a liking to my sunflowery scarf at a friend's daughters party. Sadly it then got annoyed when it realised it wasn't a real sunflower. After some cold compresses and bite cream, it was still a tad stingy so, in the afternoon when I was due to be packing, I was feeling sorry for myself, trying to keep a damp towel round my neck (I'm ridiculous) and dosing up with antihistamine. So instead we picked up a kayak from friends to take away (yippee) and then between us got packed up with me on more of a supervisory role, ensuring no one was in any doubt able my neck being sore (did I mention I was stung?!). Sunday, neck ... read more

Computer zei : Aankomst 14:00u, hoogte 960m, 32°, 58 km, verbruik 14,7 l /100km, gemiddeld 26 km/u, reisduur 2:13 uur.

Ultra korte rit over relatief vlak terrein. Van het ene dorpje door het andere. Maximum toegelaten snelheid, 30km/u. Het ... read more

Lourdes– vrijdag 13 mei en zaterdag 14 mei. Computer zei : Aankomst 12:15u, hoogte 422m, 22°, 74 km, verbruik 7,8 l /100km, gemiddeld 35 km/u, reisduur 2:06 uur.
