Really good day' walk through fields and forests and although there were a few hills (few too many according to Julie) it was pleasant and pretty easy. The rain held off until the last 2 hours but it was drizzle only and really we stayed dry so that made the walk infinitely more pleasant and pleasurable than yesterday. Again our room and balcony look like a laundry but the room is so big the drying takes up only a fraction. Our room has a lobby, huge bathroom, a dinning area for 4, a double balcony with table and chairs, a sofa and an arm chair, a double wardrobe and a big bed so the laundry corner pales into insignificance. Pieting didn't improve its image much as we skirted the industrial zone to get back on the ... read more
That's me.And the water wheel that works but does nothing! Intriguing.
The forest. It's just delightful.
Even if the bridges are somewhat precarious.

Good and bad, clever and well not so clever, yes and no. Whatever? All the photos apart from the water wheel one come from the one hotel here. Admittedly it is pretty old and has undergone some strange renovations but it has the lot. Have a look at the pictures and get the good, the bad and the downright ridiculous.... read more
They do do strudel and double espresso really well.
That's the walkway to our bathroom, dinning area and balcony. Good but BIG.
Our dinning area. Why?

Our hotel's address is Alpenhotel Pfaffenwinkel. Doesn't that just sound good. Admittedly we had walked 28 km in just under 7 hours and had 10 hours of rain (well I added 3 because it dripped from the trees when we were in the forrest!), and we were wet through so maybe not in a position to be unbiased but Pieting is not really a pretty place. Bigger than we are used to but significantly grungier too. Our hotel is good but there's more an industrial feel to this place and one we are unaccustomed to. The entire walk was in rain today. The only time it varied from heavy was when it got heavier. We had to change clothes at lunchtime and no I don't mean I wore Julie's and she wore mine! We literally wrung ... read more

Stop clapping, cheering and generally going wild and get down and do the quiz. In no particular order, alphabetically, chronologically or anythingly here it comes. Points will be awarded for correct answers and deducted if you're trying to be funnier than me. Responses may be sent via the comments or directly to my email address (hopefully for all of you Alla may not have it, then you might have a chance) and as usual neat and tidy entries may collect that much coveted bonus point, so keep your typing neat and nice! 1. There is an error in the prefix above prior to the paragraph which commences with 'stop clapping...'. What is this deliberate error? 2. What is the official name of the KLW? The 3 word title needs to be spellt corectly. I'm pedantic on ... read more

Strange. Travel blog is not sure where I am. I thought we were still in Bavaria and really I still do but the town is not mentioned in the long list of destinations so that spot remains blank (you can insert the destination that you like). Make it nice though as we have walked from a delightful little spot and this town isn't far from being just as scenic. The fact that our hotel is easy to find, comfortable, warm and dry and with an excellent shower sure helps the town reputation as we have arrived a little wet after being a lot wet through the day's walk. It poured at one stage heavily enough for us to seek shelter, it rained persistently (yes I cleaned that up) and at other times it simply dripped from ... read more
Just the usual breakfast.
The other half of our usual breakfast.
Just for Bun (and no I didn't buy any).

Bye Starnberg. Well it wasn't quite that quick or easy. Macs, the company that I booked through had not sent over our vouchers for the ferry from Herrsching to Diessen despite 3 emails and plenty of time, so our hotel was good enough to follow up with the German company that Macs had sub let to. Sort of sorted in 2 minutes except the email didnt come through and didn't come through and didn't come through then finally came through. The hotel printed it off for us and all good except it took nearly an hour. We were on a bit of a schedule because missing one convenient time meant waiting 2 hours till the next (OK) or 4 hours till the last one (not really OK). The most frustrating thing wasn't the 3 emails, the ... read more

The KLW is marked by a series of signs, some shared with other trails, some stand alone and particular to just the KLW. Here are some that I took photos of and really just a fraction of those we saw. I didn't take photos of those we didn't see! I will attempt to blog about the day later, just have a look at some of the KLW signs.... read more

We start the KLW where KL died. Strange but true. But then much of the story of KL is a paradox. Was he crazy and a spendthrift or was he ahead of his time and innovative? Was he assassinated or did he drown simply by misadventure? Lots more. Anyway we are walking the KLW and today we walked from Starnbert to Berg where there are 2 crosses and a 'votinkapelle' that mark the spot where KL did not swim enough! I'm yet to check what a 'votinkapelle' is but it has to be some type of church, maybe it hasn't been consecrated or something but it adorned with crosses and symbols that are pretty suggestive and indicative of churchy things. Sorry to get technical on you but... The train trip from Munich to Starnberg should be ... read more
Well one of us is taking this seriously (the one with the serious reading map and instructions glasses)!
Get used to it. That crowned K is the symbol of the walk so we at least want to see it plenty.
Really there is a heap,of important info here, pity it's in German.

Short or tall, fat or skinny, young or old you dress a Bavarian in frilly shirt, braces, lederhosen, fancy socks and shoes and despite the fact they appear they are on the way to a gay pride march thsee guys look like as though you should not mess with them. One even wore Harry Potter glasses and still looked tough! Don't tell Tracey's Mal but they all looked like him and that's after they had had a few beers and before I had any. And there are plenty of them around. All charming, all good but yo get the feeling they would be a bit of a force. Again I ate the best part of half an animal with a couple of litres of beer. Tonight it was roast pork with potatoes (I know you probably ... read more
Ah, beer. Even the barmaid in the background looks good.

Pork roast, potatoe (surprise, surprise) and a dumpling. Look quick, it's soon gone!

Found our way to Augustine Beer Garden last night, reportedly the third largest beer garden in the world (numbers 1 and 2 are here as well) and shared a couple of litres with a thousand or so of our new friends. The place is huge with various venues within the venue all crowded with happy Bavarians and tourists. There were wedding parties and parties everywhere with heaps of Bavarians (males and females) in traditional dress and heaps dressed to the nines but everyone getting on with the serious German business of having fun. The beer here is big, the pretzels are big and the food is big. There's a shot of my pork knuckle and that is a half knuckle not even a full one! If you're vegetarian and go for chicken (well that's the lowest ... read more
