South America » Chile » Santiago Region » Santiago March 30th 2015

We awoke at 8 am and got ready so we could meet Alexandra and her husband at 9 am. He had to work in the afternoon, so we would explore a little until then. We met up inside the Santa Lucia metro station and then went to the top of Cerro Santa Lucia, which translates to "hill". The climb to the top is easy and there are awesome views from up there. There are different monuments and fountains to see during the climb up the steps. We stayed at the top for 10-15 minutes taking in the massive city below us. It was overcast so you could not see the Andes Mountains very clearly. When we went back down, we walked down some city streets to Plaza de Armas and visited the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the ... read more

We awoke about 10 am, well rested and got ready to head out. After checking out of the hotel we caught the shuttle to the airport and had a great breakfast at a place called Le Fournil. Later we took the Centropuerto bus to the Los Heroes metro station. It took about 20 minutes and then it was short two stops on the metro to the University of Chile station which was close to our apartment. Our host said to arrive at 3 pm and it was now 2:30 pm so we waited in the lobby for a bit. Just after 3, our host, Maria came down to bring us up. She had a really lovely studio apartment that was just perfect for us! We really liked it, and I actually miss staying there, lol! We ... read more

South America » Brazil » São Paulo » Guarulhos March 28th 2015

We awoke at 9 am and had the wonderful breakfast that our Airbnb host provided. We then just sat around until about 1 pm. Our flight to Sao Paulo was not until 2:35 pm. We flew to Sao Paulo on GOL flight 1385 which was a 737-800 aircraft. I was in seat 21F and it was a routine flight. Our connection to Santiago was not until 8:50 pm so we just waited and had some dinner. The next flight was GOL 7662 which was another 737-800 and it was a smooth and routine flight of just under 4 hours. I was in seat 26F and slept mostly. We arrived into Santiago at 1:05 am and went straight to the hotel to get a good nights sleep. We were staying with someone from Airbnb, but chose to ... read more

South America » Brazil » Paraná » Iguaçu Falls March 26th 2015

We awoke at 7 am and planned to visit the falls at the opening time of 9 am. It was to rain this day, but they said it would start after noon. Well, the opposite happened. Bernadete made a wonderful breakfast for us and then drove us to the bus stop. It took about 20 minutes to get to the falls by bus. It had begun to rain very hard, but what can you do? You are there to see the falls and must march on no matter what! We thought about waiting to see if the rain would stop, but decided to put on our ponchos and head out on the trails. The first sight of the falls was amazing! There are no words to describe it and the photos do not do any justice. ... read more

Spring break means time to travel. We had planned on going to Foz do Iguacu last year when we were in Rio, but it did not work out. Of course the falls are a must see so we would try again this year, and combine it with another city in South America. For that, we chose Santiago. We planned on departing Indianapolis around 3:30 pm, however, the flights were full so we left at noon instead. Our first flight was Indianapolis to Detroit on a Delta Connection CRJ-700. I was in seat 8A for the short flight. We had about 6 hours in Detroit airport, so we just grabbed some lunch and sat around waiting. At 8 pm, we departed to Sao Paulo on board Delta 53. We cleared for business class and I was in ... read more

Europe » Belgium » Brussels-Capital Region » Brussels October 16th 2014

We awoke at 6am and left the hotel a little after 7. I check our flight one last time and it was still fine. There were 23 open seats in business class and 7 open in economy. We walked the short walk to Brussels Centraal station and got the train to the airport. Once there, we checked in and went to wait by the gate for our seat assignments. I could not get on the wifi very well so I could not monitor the seats. I am glad I was not able to see because the flight fell apart fast. The Brussels to Atlanta flight was running 3 hours behind and so they moved some people to our New York flight. It filled up quickly, and not only were we lucky to get business class, but ... read more

We awoke about 7am and immediately went out to see the city. We walked up towards the Jardin, and then past the Royal Palace, and finally on to the Cinquantenaire Park. We passed by the buzzing EU complexes, including the Parliament. There were protests going on, and I also saw a security issue with an unattended bag. I am sure it is always busy here and it was fun to see it. I loved seeing Cinquantenaire Park early in the morning. After an hour so we went back and had a waffle breakfast, before heading to the Musical Instrument Museum. The museum was fantastic, and I recommend it as a must see in Brussels. We wandered the museum for at least 3 hours and then had a nice lunch at the rooftop cafe. The meal was ... read more

After 21 years, I would be back in Brussels. This was the first place that I had visited outside of the USA. It had changed a lot, but for the better! It would be my wife and daughters first time there. We awoke early in Basingstoke said goodbye to Nikki's daughters as they went off to school. We sat around relaxing and chatting mostly. Andre came home to join us for lunch at around 1pm. At 2pm, we left for LHR airport. Traffic was light and we arrived at about 3pm. Our flight was not until 5:50pm so we just walked around and did a little shopping. We also had a light snack. Our flight to Brussels was on Brussels Airlines 2096. It was an ARJ-100 aircraft and we sat in row 4. It was a ... read more

We awoke early and had a light breakfast. Andre had to work this day, so we would just stay in Basingstoke and explore with Nikki and her mother. We went down to Festival Place mall and walked around for a few hours. We had a great lunch at Wagamama. I had the chicken katsu curry and it was very tasty! At about 4pm, we went to pick up the daughters from school and headed home. Andre got home at about 6pm and we went out to the Portsmouth Arms for dinner at 7pm. Since I knew that a Travelbuddy Edit http://www.travbuddy.com/Echo_Glived close by, I invited her out to eat with us. We had met Edit on our last trip to the UK and just loved her! We had a great meal and conversation. Nikki and Edit ... read more

We awoke early and had a light breakfast at home. We left to Basingstoke rail station at about 9am and caught a train to London Waterloo. Once there, we walked down by the London Eye and hung out for a little bit. At about noon, we caught a Thames Clipper boat towards Greenwich. It was a nice ride with some great views! Once in Greenwich, we walked around the area for most of the day until about 5pm. Though a bit touristy, we had to stand on the Prime Meridian line. After our fun day in Greenwich Park, we went and had dinner at the King's Arms Pub nearby. It was really good food and I had the fish and chips with a few Guin... read more
