Vulindlela and family

Jeremy

We are a family that loves to travel and meet new people!
Married for 24 years, with a 21 year old daughter.
Although all three of us are originally from California, we have called Indianapolis home for 19 years now.
I am a huge airline nerd, and often do trips around that, such as to fly on a new aircraft type, a new airline, or visit a new airport.
I have well over a million miles, on over 80 different airlines, and to or through almost 200 different airports.
I am not a professional photographer by any means, and in fact, just use a little point and shoot camera.

I am coming up on 30 years in the airline industry, which is how we are blessed to travel as much as we have.
I am also a refugee from the TravBuddy website. I was the number 1 most active on that site.

We awoke early and had the lovely breakfast again that our host made. We got ready to go and sat around until it was time to go to the airport. The host drove us to the airport and dropped us off. The check in and security were quick and easy. The Atlanta flight didn't look good for stand by, we decided to take the Miami flight. The 30 minute flight to Miami was on Delta 650, an A-320 aircraft. We cleared for first class and I had 3 or 4 gin and tonics. Once in Miami, our customs and immigration experience was slow. It always seems to be and I really dislike the airport for that reason. Now we could have flown for free on Delta, Miami-Atlanta-Indianapolis. However it would have meant a long layover in ... read more

Our host offered to give us a customized driving tour this day. It was going to be a hot one. He gave us suggestions and then we could add or subtract things. Once settled, we were on our way. He first drove us to the little town of Cojimar. This is where Hemingway got inspiration for "The Old Man and The Sea". I really liked what I was seeing here, and thought that on a return visit, maybe we'd stay here. After walking around for an hour or so, he took us to the stadium that hosted the 1991 Pan American Games. We went inside to look around and there were some track teams practicing. Next up was a visit to the Christ statue, where there were some great views of the city. After this he ... read more

We awoke early and ate the delicious breakfast the host cooked. We did a lot of walking this day through the old town. For dinner, the hosts suggested a few places. One of them was near the Capitol building. It had a wait and the line was out the door so we got on the list. We waited 15 minutes or so and the line seemed to not move. We removed our names from the list and went to see about the other suggestion they gave us. Glad we did because this place was great! It was called Sociedad Asturiana Castropol Restaurant and was located across the street from the Malecon. We ended up eating three times at this place! The food was tasty, the service great, and it was a good value as well. I ... read more

Ever since I visited Havana in January 2018, I have wanted to go back. I really like it there, and love seeing it before it becomes spoiled with commercialism. This time my wife came along, and since she speaks Spanish, it was very helpful. We were wanting to do a short getaway and Havana was perfect for that. My wife was not keen on Cuba for political reasons, and while I get it, I told her that we are not going for the politics, but for the people. We headed out early on Delta flight 1575 to Atlanta on a 737-900 aircraft. In Atlanta, we ate some Panda Express for lunch. In the afternoon, we boarded Delta Connection flight 5201, a CRJ-900 to Havana. We cleared for first class on the flight and I was able ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris April 4th 2019

We awoke about 8 and got ready. We all went down for the nice breakfast buffet and filled up. We caught the shuttle bus to CDG and had an easy check in and security process. At the gate, we saw our daughter's friends and teachers and they were all so excited. The flight had about 50 open seats so we were fine for stand by travel. The girls sat in economy comfort and I took the open exit row that I had sat in on our previous flight to and from Paris in 2018. We were on Delta 501, A 767-300 aircraft. The flight was nice and smooth and we arrived on time. Once again, it was so nice to land directly in our home city! We were aircraft seat to home in under 30 minutes ... read more

We awoke about 8, got ready, and went to have some breakfast. Our daughter slept in so we brought her some food when we went back. We admired the views of the sea from our Airbnb one last time. It was neat to see the ferries come in and out of the harbor all day and night. We walked over to the waterfront near the bus station and waited. It was very nice to watch the sea. Soon we were on the bus back to the airport. Along the way, I saw homes being built and thought "I could live here". SPU check in and security was easy. The terminal was pretty packed with not much seating. Our flight was Croatia Airlines 474, an A-319 aircraft. The two hour flight to Paris was smooth and routine. ... read more

We awoke early and headed out to explore. It was another beautiful day weather wise. We did a lot of walking in the old part of the city. We had been to Croatia before, visiting Dubrovnik, and we really liked the country. The people are very friendly and welcoming. My wife preferred Dubrovnik, but I was really liking the vibe of Split. We had lunch at a pizza place in the old town that was very good. In the afternoon, we walked over to the beach at Jezinac. We sat close to the water and relaxed for a bit. Later we headed back to the old town area. My wife had read good stuff about a dessert place called Waffle Express, so we went. It was actually about dinner time, but we had some waffles instead. ... read more

Our arrival into CDG was smooth. I used to not care for CDG airport, but have become good at navigating it. We easily made it over to the Croatia Airlines flight to Split with plenty of time to spare. It was good to see the Air Baltic flight to Riga in the same terminal. This was our 4th flight on Croatia Airlines, and I really like the service. This was Croatia flight 475, an A-319 aircraft. It was a smooth 2 hours over to Split, and after the quick arrival formalities, we were on the bus to Split. We had booked a nice Airbnb right on the waterfront, and it was easy to find. We changed and headed out for some lunch. My wife had researched several places and one of them was Toto's Burger Bar. ... read more

Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Split March 31st 2019

For our 2019 spring break trip, we looked at several different places. One of those was Riga. I have been wanting to go there for quite sometime now. Well, the weather played into our planning. Riga was forecast to have temperatures in the 20s, and snow. I saw that we could get to Split via Paris, and that the temperature would be sunny and in the 70s. The planning began. We flew on the nonstop Indianapolis to Paris again. We cleared for business class, and I was in seat 1A. The flight was Delta 500, a 767-300 aircraft. The flight had delayed due to a mechanical issue. We did not have a lot of time to transfer in CDG, so I was very concerned. We could change the trip to Riga, however, we did not pack ... read more

We awoke early to get the metro and RER to CDG airport. After a few days of great weather, it was windy and a little cool this day. The departure formalities at CDG were quick and easy. It was not long before we were off to Indianapolis on Delta 501, a 767-300 aircraft. The girls sat in economy comfort again, and I took the same exit row as coming out to Paris. I had another good meal, and many gin and tonics. The flight was very smooth. I watched the movie "The 15:17 to Paris", which I really liked. We arrived in on time in the late afternoon to Indianapolis. Customs and Immigration was quick and easy. I think we made it from aircraft seat to our house in under 30 minutes.
