Paris has great transport options. It is also a great city to walk, and we did a lot of it. We took the metro down to the Musee d'Orsay. It was not overly crowded, and was a fun experience. Like I said before I am hit and miss when it comes to art, but I liked this museum. Before leaving we had a snack. We then walked to the Cathedral Notre Dame. We hung out there an hour or so and then walked towards the Louvre. Along the way we stopped and had lunch at a place called Au Vieux Chatelet which was pretty good. Once we got to the Louvre, we relaxed on some chairs in the Tuileries Gardens until sunset. We took a few photos and watched the sunset views of the Eiffel Tower. ... read more

We awoke at around 8 I believe, and got ready to head out. We rode the metro to see the Arc de Triomphe. Our daughter wanted to see all the sights that she had seen 11 years before. After getting the photos, we walked down Avenue Kleber towards the Trocadero. We were on the lookout for a place to eat lunch, and found that in a place called Chez Zhong. We had a great meal, served by a very nice staff. It was then just a short walk down to the Trocadero for the Eiffel Tower photo ops. We did a leisurely walk down to the river bank, and across the bridge to the tower. Our daughter rode the carousel and took the same photo that she did 11 years before. The whole area around the ... read more

Arrival into CDG airport was routine. We cleared immigration, and went down to get the RER to the city. It was a packed ride, and it was hot. I couldn't wait to exit the train. Once we got to Gare du Nord, we then rode the metro to the Brochant station, which was close to our hotel. The hotel was Hotel Mirific. Even though it was early, the staff were wonderful, and they had a room ready for us. We put up our stuff and changed then went across the street for some lunch. The place was called Kashmir Good Chicken, and well, it was good. We then walked all the way to the Sacre-Couer. We walked so that we could get some sun and exercise. We had never been to the site and seen the ... read more

Delta had begun a nonstop flight from Indianapolis to Paris, and this would be our first ride on it. It is so convenient to not have to connect anywhere! We planned on maybe visiting another place in Europe, but our daughter really wanted to see Paris again. She had only been once, and it was in 2007. We decided to just visit Paris, and the weather was amazing! For this trip, we were going to be doing something we had not done in a long time. That is fly in coach on a long haul flight. Although our flights were wide open to travel stand by, there would be no way to get upgraded due to the front cabin being full. Indianapolis to Paris was Delta 500, a 767-300 aircraft. We were given a row of ... read more

We awoke early, got ready, and got the taxi to the airport. The check in and other formalities were quick and simple. We were taking Delta flight 2829 to Minneapolis. The aircraft was an A-319 They had one first class seat open, so my wife got it. It was a short flight down, with great weather. We connected on Delta flight 1145, a 717 aircraft, to Indianapolis. This was another quick flight with great weather. I am so glad we did this little trip. All four of us enjoyed it and we would return. I actually wouldn't mind going to see a Jets game since I am a big hockey fan.... read more

This day we decided to do the Manitoba Museum. I was not expecting much, but the museum exceeded my expectations. We got a taxi downtown and toured the museum. It was well laid out, and very interesting. Definitely my type of place with a lot of hands on exhibits. After the museum, we went and had lunch at a small deli downtown. After lunch we did a little walking around and headed back to the hotel in the early evening via taxi. We wanted to get something unique for dinner, but since there was nothing close, we did not know what. The hotel suggested Salisbury House, and said it was a short walk. Well we went, and really liked it. The place was old and worn, but the food and service were great! So glad they ... read more

When researching our trip, we saw that the zoo seemed to be very nice. We all love animals anyways. We visited the zoo and surrounding park this day. It was not far from our hotel and the airport. It was well laid out and nice to walk through. There were hardly any crowds at first so it was nice. We ended near where the polar bears were, and had lunch at the zoo cafe. I had my first poutine there, and although I was hesitant to try it, I really liked it. After the zoo, we walked around Assiniboine Park. This is where more of my wife's research came into play. She found out that Winnie the Pooh was based off of Winnipeg the Bear, and that there was a statue in the park. I would ... read more

In December of 2017, we had taken my father into our home since he was having early stages of dementia. We were wanting to take him on an easy trip. We had taken to Atlanta for a few days in May, and he enjoyed it. I have always wanted to visit Winnipeg, and the flight loads were great for stand by travel. We flew from Indianapolis to Minneapolis on Delta Connection 5460, a CRJ-900 aircraft, and all 4 of us sat in first class. Our connection was Delta Connection flight 5340, and it was the same CRJ-900 that we had flown up on. We all had the same first class seats as well. Minneapolis was having a thunderstorm, but it cleared as we got close to Winnipeg. Our arrival was simple. The Immigration Agent was joking ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Cuba » Oeste » La Habana January 19th 2018

I awoke early to get ready. I checked out of my Airbnb, and then their driver took me to the airport. There was a lot of traffic, and it took long. It takes about 30 minutes normally anyways. Check in was simple, and I did a little souvenir shopping before heading to my gate. Immigration and security were not bad, taking about 15 minutes maybe. Then it was a short wait for Delta flight 648 from Havana to Atlanta. I was in first class seat 1A for the quick flight up. This was an Airbus 319 aircraft. I watched some of the film "Diehard", and enjoyed 4 gin and tonics. We arrrived early, and the whole customs and immigration process was quick. Maybe 15 minutes or so total time. I went to my connecting gate and ... read more

I awoke at around 6:30am. I knew the sunrise was at about 7am, so I wanted to start early. I dressed and left for the Malecon. The temperatures were very low for Cubans, but I was fine in just a t-shirt. I think they said it was down to the 50s overnight. The wind was causing some very heavy surf, and the waves were crashing over the Malecon wall. I walked up and down the area, and then went up to the Capitolio. It was a nice day, and I had some good chats with different folks while walking around. One guy walked me over to a small local breakfast place. I had some ham and eggs with coffee. It was a lovely meal. After that, I just walked around for most of the day. In ... read more
