We awoke relatively early, but let our daughter sleep in. Our Airbnb host had told us to go down to the tourist office and register for a free tour on Saturday, so we did that straight away. We then went to have a crepe breakfast at Dolce Vita. It was very good, but very rich and heavy. We took some back to our Daughter, and then headed out. We wanted to do the cable car this day, but were not sure if the fog would lift to allow this. The locals said the fog was not normal, but I thought it added to some of the photos. The fog did lift, so we walked up to get the cable car. It is outside of the walls, but still very close by. It took maybe 15 minutes ... read more

What do you do if you have a long connection in Frankfurt? You go explore, of course! The weather was pleasant, so we did just that. I saw that you could store luggage at the Frankfurt rail station for much less than at the airport, so we did that. We bought a day transport pass for the three of us at a cost of about 19 Euro. It was 7 Euro to store each bag at the airport, and we were able to get all 4 of our bags in the rail station locker for a total of 5 Euro. Such a great tip! We had transited FRA many times, and have only seen the suburbs one time, so it was great to finally see some of the city center. Now of course, Frankfurt is no ... read more

We had wanted to finally visit Argentina this year, but it did not work out. Next we thought of doing Ljubljana and Venice. However, we saw Venice would have rain almost the whole time. By chance, I saw that Croatian Airlines had a direct flight from Frankfurt to Dubrovnik, so we planned this trip less than a week out. We were happy that it was going to be sunny and in the 70s daily. We flew to NYC separately, since I had to work until noon on this day. The girls left at 6am, and had to fly Indianapolis to Raleigh to New York. This was due to full flights most of the day. They did get first class though! I left on a nonstop flight about 3pm and got the last seat on the plane, ... read more

Europe » Poland » Masovia » Warsaw September 11th 2016

I had to depart Warsaw early this day, sadly. I awoke at 4:00am and got myself ready. I checkout of the Novotel and walked over to the Centralna rail station. I cought a 5:35am train to WAW airport. Our first flight was at 7:35am, on LOT Polish Airlines to Dusseldorf. It was LOT flight 409, an EMB-175 aircraft. I was in economy seat 18D. We were going to have a very tight connection at DUS, and departing Warsaw 15 minutes late did not help. I chose Dusseldorf because it had the most open business class seats of all the Delta Europe departures. If we did not make it in time, our back up was to take an afternoon Air Berlin flight from DUS to Boston. That flight had 100s of open seats, so we were covered ... read more

Even though I would have loved to sleep in, I was up at 7am so I could get ready for a tour of the city with Emilia(EmyG). I went down to a Costa Coffee, and had a coffee and croissant. I met Emilia in the Novotel lobby, and he headed out on the bus to Wilanów Palace. They call the palace "The Polish Versailles", and I was looking forward to it the most on the tour. It took about 30 minutes to get there, and her and I just talked a lot on the bus. The palace was as amazing in person as it was in photos! We strolled around the gardens for well over an hour, maybe even two. It was such a beautiful place! I could have stayed there all day really. But, there ... read more

I awoke at 6am, and got myself ready. I walked out to the main square and had some breakfast. I ate a quick meal at the McDonald's, and then I saw my travel buddy Jerome(Castex21). We walked around a little bit and then decided to meet up at the rail station for our 10:10am train to Warsaw. Everything worked as planned, and the train departed on time. We had a first class seat for about $20. It was a boring and routine train ride, but soon we were at Warsaw Centralana station for an on time arrival of 12:50pm. It looked to be a nice day! Jerome left to check in to his Airbnb, and I went to get my room at the Novotel. We decided to meet up at 4pm in front of the Palace ... read more

Europe » Poland » Lesser Poland » Kraków September 8th 2016

I have always wanted to visit Krakow, so I went to Poland a day early so I could do about 24 hours in Krakow. Not enough time at all, I know. However, I did see a lot of the old town and enjoyed it. I would like to go back someday. We arrived into Frankfurt on time at 10am, and cleared immigration quickly. Next flight to Krakow was around noon time, but it seemed full for stand by. The next flight was not until around 4 pm, but it had lots of open seats. What to do? Shall we go into Frankfurt city for a few hours? Try the early flight? We decided to try the earlier flight, and it was a good choice because we made it on. It was a smooth and routine flight ... read more

***Note--For reference, this is about an Eleven Heaven Meet Up from the TravBuddy website. Eleven Heaven was the nickname given to members who won all eleven awards possible from the site*** At first the thought of an Eleven Heaven meet up did not appeal to me. I decided later to try to the London event, due to it being easier for me to get to. I then figured that I have been to London many times, and Warsaw would be a better option. I had been once, but only for 24 hours, and this was 9 years ago. I wanted to see Poland again. I like it there. Such friendly people. Besides that, there was to be some famous people from TB, like Chokk, Hali, and EmyG. How could I not go and meet them? Flying ... read more

Europe » Austria » Vienna March 31st 2016

We arose at 3am and got ready. Our taxi was waiting as planned, and it took about 20 minutes or so the get to Vienna airport. We were able to check in quickly, and then went to the gate to wait. The flight was very lightly booked, so we did not have a problem as stand by passengers. They gave us our seat assignments right away. We were flying Lufthansa flight 1247, from Vienna to Frankfurt. It was an Airbus 321 aircraft and I was in seat 30C. Once at Frankfurt, we went to check in for our flight to Detroit. This flight was also very lightly booked, with maybe only 50 or so people on it total. We cleared easily for business class, and soon were off to Detroit. It was Delta flight 87, and ... read more

Europe » Austria » Vienna March 30th 2016

Once again, we arose early and went to the lobby for our breakfast. We then went to the zoo on our final day in Vienna. I was very impressed with the layout of the zoo. It does not have the typical animals in cages feel to it. It is spread out, and the animals have lots of space. It was voted "best zoo in Europe". It takes some time to really see everything, and we spent most of the day there. Of course, the pandas were one of the highlights of the zoo, but I liked the entire place really. I also loved the Rainforest House, and the Aquarium House. We had lunch at a little Tyrolean house on the hill above the zoo. They deconstructed this house in Tyrol, and moved it here in the ... read more
