Blog 02-15-18 Beautiful Day The fog was present again this morning but it looked brighter and the wind was very light. By the time I had my shower and came back the fog bank had moved off the coast, the sun was bright, the sky a colbot blue, a gentle breeze blowing and it was already 70 degrees, perfect. We walked across the street to the river side of the park and still no birds, but the park service was launching an air boat so we hung around there for a while, then took a nature trail. It was our last full day at the beach so we had to get as much in as possible. Watson led the way down the road and through the gate as fast as we could go. The ocean was ... read more

Blog 02-14-18 Happy Valentine's Day The weather man did it again. Today was supposed to be sunny and 80 degrees, instead it was foggy, windy and 58 degrees. They are assuring us that tomorrow will be beautiful, again flexability is key. After my shower today I discovered that the washer was available so I hurried home and grabbed the laundry bag and ran back. Yes, the wash gets done today. While the dryer was running Watson and I took a walk to the dumpster. We talked to some campers on the way but discovered that many had left early in the day. My friends from Canada are leaving today so I said goodbye and wished them a safe and fun trip to Texas. They are going to Padra Island and don't know what to expect when ... read more

blog 02-12-18 Is the Rain Liquid Sunshine It is my opinion that all incompedent meteroligists reside in Florida. There has not been one day since I have been here that the weather turned out the way they called it. Yesterday was supposed to be rainy and warm, it was sunny and hot. Today was supposed to be hot and sunny, it's cold and foggy. Not complaining just stating fact. One must learn to be flexable. Marg and I had coffee outside this morning in the brilliant sunshine. Finally took a picture of the campsite. A little girl from Ohio came over to play with Watson this morning and had fun petting him and throwing his ball. She has a dog at home and misses him so Watson had a playmate for a while. She made the ... read more

blog 02/08/18 Blast off-Beach Day-St Augustine The last few days have been busy ones. On Monday I went up to Jacksonville airport and picked up Margi who will be staying for several days. It was an easy trip and before long she was in the car and we were jabbering away on our way back to Flagler. Today is the launch day for the Falcon Heavy rocket from Cape Canaveral and I was sure hoping for a delay in the launch time so we could see it. We got back to the campground at 3:15 and the launch time was delayed from 1:30 to 3:45 so we scurred to the campsite, got camera gear and went to the ocean observation platform right across the campground road from me. There were 6 people there waiting and watching ... read more

blog 02-05-18 Settling In Watson and I took a long walk yesterday, up the beach campground road, across A1A, through the jungle, along the boat inlet, then checking out the Intercoastal Waterway. Along the way we met 2 women taking a bird censis, part of a state wide effort. They said they have found fewer of some species and more of another attributing it to warmer weather. Not an official conclusion just their opinion. We walked through the river side section of the park and it's campground, then back through the jungle and home to our campsite. I have not taken a picture of our site yet but will tomorrow so you can picture where I am. The afternoon was rainy so I spent the time cleaning and reorganizing the camper, which is an ongoing process. ... read more

Blog 02-02-18 Gamble Rogers State Park, Flagler Beach, FL I left home Jan 13th heading to sunny Florida hoping for warm weather. The ride south was uneventful but cold, having my in camper heater running all night to keep from freezing. I still had anti freeze in the water system of my camper so that was not a concern, just staying warm running to the bathroom. I stayed 2 weeks at Thousand Trails in Clermont with my camping girlies where we had fun catching up from last summer and going to the winery for music and wine on the lawn, twice, taking in a musical, visiting Bok Tower, enjoying a movie, playing bingo, going out to dinner and lunch, watching a launch, and just visiting with the other campers. Watson enjoyed seeing his furry friends again ... read more

blog 11-8-17 Journey's End It's hard to believe our adventure has come to an end. We have been on the road for 3 months and we don't have to plan where to stay tonight. We drove 10,400 miles in the motorhome, almost a thousand more in the car. We rode through 31 states and visited 24 National Parks and lots more parks we didn't get a stamp for. Disaster never caught up to us although it was nipping at our heels from time to time. Fire, snow, earth quakes, horrific wind and deadly fires were but hours behind us in some places. There was not so much as a flat tire or a chipped windshield on our entire trip. The Man upstares was sure looking out for us. Thank you God. For all of you that ... read more

blog 11-07-17 Homestreatch We left Hoover, AL with temps in the 70s and bright skies. Our route changed in Birmingham to I 85 where we took a more northerly route toward 95. Our destination was Durham, NC but we couldn't find a campground that would accept us. There were 2 that rejected us because of the dobermans, something about their insurance not accepting viscous breeds. Obviously they haven't met a doberman lately. The only other campground in town was not accepting one night stays. It was truly a mystery to us but we had no other choice but to stay at a Walmart parking lot. When I mentioned to Ginnie that there was a super Walmart in Chapel Hill she said that's where my cousin lives. Ginnie didn't know that we were near Chapel Hill and ... read more

blog 11-04-17 Visiting in Hoover Our plan was to sleep in this morning but apparently the dogs had other ideas. First Alfy heard something outside and barked his very loud inturder bark. Then Lynus had to see what was happening so he joined in. OK, we got that settled down fairly quickly, just back to sleep when it happened all over again. Ok shut the door, back to bed. By that time it was almost 8 am so we were doomed from getting any more sleep, the boys were now hungry and crying for breakfast. We gave up. We moved slowly, enjoyed breakfast and coffee outside enjoying the 70 plus temps. The dogs had their walk then it was time to go visit a friend of Ginnie's that lives about 9 miles away in Hoover, AL. ... read more

blog 11-03-17 Clinton, MS to Hoover, AL Our campground was adequate last night but lacked any amenities at all. We were basically in a parking lot with electric, water and sewer. There was no green grass, not even one tree so we made due with the awning out and mother nature provided a small breeze. The temp was about 83 when we got there and dropped to about 68 overnight. So our wish for warm weather was fulfilled, guess you can't have it all. Today we were off by 9:15 and headed east on I 20 toward Alabama. There was very light wind so it really wasn't a factor and the traffic was light so the combination made for an easy drive. There were lots of trees now and more and more rivers to cross. This ... read more
