blog 11-02-17 The East Side of the Mississippi UGH! Today we drove on I 20 through 3 states. Not exactly through them but we drove in 3 states today. Finally out of Texas we sailed through Louisiana and almost half way through Mississippi before we settled for the night in a fairly nice rv park in Clinton, MS. The only really bad part is that we are now on the wrong side of the Mississippi. : ( . We are getting tired of driving everyday so in Birmingham, AL we will spend 2 nights at one campground and visit a friend of Ginnie's for lunch one day then the rest of the time just chilling out. I can't say enough about the dogs and how good they have been. No matter what we throw at them ... read more

blog 11-01-17 Bowie to Marshall, TX Yes, we are still in Texas. We have been driving for 3 days and we are still in Texas. Thank goodness we didn't go across the fat part of the state. Our purpose in going south to I 20 was to find warmer weather and that we did do. When we got to Marshall it was 74 degrees and we sat outside in the sun for about 1 1/2 hrs just enjoying the warmth. The wind had been a side wind all the way here but tonight it died down to a very gentle breeze and we watched 8 ducks on a pond very close to us. There were 2 fellows who are staying here at the campground that tried their luck to catch a fish but no luck tonight. ... read more

Blog 10-31-17 Amirillo to Bowie, TX Happy Halloween all. There was a fly by last night before bed that sounded like a huge plane was landing on our roof. It did manage to make it to the airport which, as it turned out, was just about 3 blocks from the campground. The plane must have flown by a Texas cowboy. The rest of the night was peaceful and we slept til after 7:30 because it was still dark outside. We had another time change yesterday and we were still operating on AZ time but we have to adjust quickly because the time is going to change again when we go into eastern daylight time. Then the standard change will be next. Going west we loved the time change because it gave us an extra hour this ... read more

Blog 10-30-17 Santa Fe, NM to Amarillo, TX It was up and out this morning because we had an appointment at 9 am to get propane in the motorhome from the campground. We were all ready to go by 8:40 so we took the dogs for their last run in the park. By 9:30 we were on the road and heading east and south to connect with interstate 40. The wind was an issue this morning and it was a full side wind while we were going south then heading east on 40 it was a head wind. That was tough on gas but easier to handle the camper so we motored right along. The scenery went from desert sage brush with an occasional tree to no trees then to having a virtual forest of pinyon ... read more

blog 10-29-17 Santa Fe day 2 Our main objective this morning was to get the dogs exercised so they would sleep the afternoon away while we went sightseeing in Santa Fe. To accomplish this we took the kids to the dog park, "Oh do we have to go again!" , not their reaction. They all know the way and as soon as we head in that general direction the pace picks up and there is no going anywhere else. They have their dog buddies too that frequent the park and they run to smell the newcomer, sometimes scaring the poor things to death. But they are all friendly and just want to run, play catch or just chase each other. There is a little miniature poodle who is really cute but wants to dominate every dog ... read more

blog 10-28-17 Santa Fe day 1 29 degrees, that was the temperature outside this morning. Ginnie's new heater worked really well and she was toasty warm in her bedroom. Alfy sleeps on the floor and there it was still chilly so we have to figure out a solution to his freezing. He has blankets that Ginnie covers him with at night but he gets up several times to just walk around, goes back to bed and is cold. So he gives a little bark to be covered up. Sometimes I hear him but most of the time Ginnie does so she has to get up and cover him again. This goes on all night so when we leave here we are going south then east, hopefully it will be warmer. We left for Santa Fe about ... read more

blog 10-27-17 Rest and Regroup There was no plan for today so we could have spent the morning in bed but we got up about 7:15 and enjoyed a long cup of coffee then it was off to the laundromat here at the park to get our clothes clean. It took a couple of trips but before long we were done and had lunch and a little nap. That is the way the day went, just being a bit lazy. The weather was cold with a brisk wind but the sun was shining brightly so it warmed the camper nicely. The temperature never got past 50 today. Ginnie and I went to Walmart and got food and other necessities and the biggest prize was a new electric heater for the back half of the motorhome. There ... read more

blog 10-26-17 Holbrook, AZ to Santa Fe, NM I woke up this morning as our neighbor left the campground and there was a gorgeous sunrise. I had to take a picture which involved waking up more than I wanted but it was worth it. I took it through the window so I didn't have to freeze to death. Everybody was getting up at that point so we proceeded to get ready to leave, packing up, disconnecting and walking the dogs. I wanted to say good-bye to the owners but they were sleeping in. We left at 8:45 and were heading east on I- 40 two minutes later. The sun was high enough that it wasn't in our faces because we were on AZ time, they don't do daylight saving time, they stay on standard time. Our ... read more

blog 10-25-17 The Painted Desert and the Petrified Forest National Park Some research was done last night about visiting the park and it was decided we needed to leave early to get the best sun on the Painted Desert. So we were on the road by 10 am and in the park by 10:20. We got our Passport book stamped and headed out to see the sights. After seeing the sights we have in the last few months, the Painted Desert was a little lace luster, still pretty but really small. Once you've been to the best..... There was a section that was truly beautiful that was called Blue Mesa in the Petrified Forest section. The "Badland" formations were blue, gray, purple and white. They were truly amazing and there were petrified logs mixed in of ... read more

blog 10-24-17 Grand Canyon to Holbrook, AZ Yes, we are on the road again. It started out well then one delay after another and our start was later than we wanted. Our neighbor from Ontario came and asked me how I winterized the motorhome. After saying I'd never attempt it he said he watched a u tube video and it didn't look that hard. Well it's not but if you don't get it right the consiquences are very expensive. Ginnie talked to him about his motorhome which was the same manufacturer as her's and the conversation continued. It was nice talking to him and I think we helped him a little. As we were driving out of the driveway Ginnie spotted a dog running across the highway. In a blink she had the motorhome parked at ... read more
