blog 10-23-17 Grand Canyon the second day After discussing our options we opted to head to the east end of the park first to the Desert Watch Tower then come back to the house for lunch then about 4 head to the Bright Angel Lodge to view sunset. With the plan in place we were in the park by 10 am but didn't get to the tower for another 1/2 hour because it was 24 miles away. The first stop was to find the place where the stamp was for our Passport books and discovered it was in the tower. So several pictures later we got our books stamped then headed up 4 flights of stairs to explore the tower. It was built in 1923 by the company that was trying to develope tourism in the ... read more

Blog 10-22-17 The Grand Canyon We worked hard at staying warm this morning with the electric and the propane heaters running, the temperature was 27 degrees outside and 50 inside. There was no anticipating this cold snap, it had been 78 in Flagstaff yesterday, who would think we would have such a change in the weather. There were too many artificial lights to see any meteors besides I couldn't stay out long anyway. The sun did warm the air up quickly and by 9 am it was 50 degrees. Watson was bright eyed this morning and wanted to go for his walk but it had to be a slow, short walk because he needs to rest his leg. He did limp on it this morning and the pain pills make him sleepy so he can get ... read more

blog 10-21-17 Page, AZ to the Grand Canyon, AZ by way of Flagstaff Today was one for the books. It started by getting up at 6:15 am to get out of the campground and to the lube place to get the oil changed in the motorhome. It was just a little over 3000 miles since last done and this was a perfect opportunity to get it done because we were leaving Page to go to the Grand Canyon and we knew there wouldn't be a shop there. We had checked out the shop before going and knew they opened at 8 so we wanted to be there early. It was 7:58 when Ginnie pulled into the driveway and I was driving the car and close behind. The attendent motioned for Ginnie to pull into the bay ... read more

Blog 10-20-17 Antelope Canyon The alarm went off at 6:15am and I was excited to get up. Today Ginnie and I had reservations to tour Antelope Canyon with a group tour and I was really looking forward to going back. I had been there a few years ago and had a super experience so my anticipation was high. We had the dogs fed and walked by 8:40 and left just a few minutes later. The meeting place was only 5 min away and we were there in no time as was a bus load of people from New Zealand. They are a singing group and landed in Las Vegas several days ago and are spending 10 days seeing the sights. Don't know how they landed on this tour but they are getting to see something really ... read more

blog 10-19-17 Lake Powell This morning was a lazy one and much needed. I finished the blog from yesterday and Ginnie took it easy with a leisurely breakfast then a walk for the dogs. It was late til I was done but Watson and I got a good walk in. Watson has been limping on his right front leg since yesterday and it seems worse today so I'll keep him confined for a day or 2 and see if that helps. No thorn in the paw and no heat from his muscles or joints so I hope it's nothing serious. We booked a boat tour on Lake Powell for 1:15 but we had to be there by 12:45 and it took 20 min to get there so we decided to leave at 12:15 which gave us ... read more

Blog 10-18-17 Hurricane, UT to Page, AZ We hated to leave our neighborhood campground but it was time to move on. There was a tree company blocking off one of the streets in the campground to take down a tree that had died in the Santa Anna winds on Oct 8th. The same winds we drove through and the same winds that created havic in Santa Rosa, CA, burning it to the ground. The tree was not that big but they were making a project of it so we drove to another road to leave the campground. I forgot to take pictures of our campground so we'll just have ot remember how nice it was. We'll write a great review on the internet for them. We took a right turn onto Rt 59 out of town ... read more

blog 10-17-17 Zion National Park Ginnie got up at 7 am to turn the propane heater on to keep from freezing to death. It was pitch black outside so she went back to bed in the hopes of warming up. It was after 8 when we all got up, late for us but the time changed so we weren't used to it. It was getting light outside so we did get up and started to move around. It was about 10:30 before we got into the car to drive to Zion. I had read that the Visitor Parking Lot filled by mid morning and the only other place to park was in Springdale where you could catch a free shuttle to the park. So it wouldn't be terrible but definitely time consuming. There was a construction ... read more

blog 10-15-16 Boulder City, NV to Hurricane, UT Today was another beautiful day in Boulder City with the sun rising and lighting our mountain to a brilliant red. The road was calling and with the chores done we took the dogs on one last walk around the campground. Our nieghbor moved his truck so we could easily pull out of our space, he was actually on our site, making the swing easy especially since we had already hooked up the car. It was only 9:15, boy are we getting good. The challenge was to get around Las Vegas without going into the city or being confused on the roads. It turned out to be a piece of cake and we even found a Pilot/Flying J gas station where Ginnie gets a 5 cent a gallon discount, ... read more

blog 10-15-17 Hoover Dam Today we wanted to get up and out early. We wanted to take the Dam tour and I read that the tickets sell out early and you can only buy them in person. So we were up at 6:30 and out of here by 8:35 am. The dam was not far from our campground and as we drove just one mile we could see Lake Mead but a little longer to go til we got to the dam. We parked and went to the tour desk and Ginnie and I were the last 2 tickets sold for the 9:30 tour. We were ushered in to see a 10 min movie on the building of the dam then whisked away to a waiting elevator that took us 52 floors down in 90 seconds. ... read more

Blog 10-14-17 Red Rock Canyon It was supposed to be a lazy morning with all of us sleeping in but somebody forgot to tell the rest of the world. It started with the dogs waking up before 7 wanting to go out. Then Watson wouldn't go back to bed and I was awake for the day. I went outside to make a phone call not to disturb Ginnie and Watson heard me talking so he started barking. I got him outside with me then Ginnie got a phone call, we were not to have a late sleep. We moved around slowly, had coffee outside for the first time on our trip. It has been too cold in the morning or too hot or something but it never happened. There was a brisk breeze but it was ... read more
