blog 03-02-19 from San Antonio to Sanderson I have to start with Friday night because there was an unexpected event. During the day Watson had been bothered by an itchy butt, something that has happened before but this seemed to warrant my attention. He has a problem with his anal gland not evacuating when it should so the pressure builds up. He doesn't complain too much I could tell he was getting uncomfortable and since we were heading to West Texas with nothing but scenery and rattlesnakes it was time to do something. There was an emergency vet clinic open 24 hrs about 20 min from me so I called them and they said bring him right in, it was 8:30 pm. We were there at 9 and all checked in and were told there was ... read more

blog 03-01-19 The River Walk After the usual morning routine, I washed off the car just to get the worst of the dirt off. I sure felt better even though it's not "clean". Back to my favorite parking lot in town I found the entrance to the river walk after buying my tour ticket from the information center. There is a whole world down a flight of steps that is festive and colorful. There are shops, restaurants, colorful decorations and hoards of people in this secret little world. Oh, and a river. I found the line for the tour boat and after a short wait we boarded Harold's boat and our instructions if we fell overboard were to stand up and walk to the nearest shore, it's no deeper then 5 ft with a concrete bottom. ... read more

blog 02-28-19 The Alamo The weather was cold and rainy this morning so we snuggled back in bed for a while. After our walk I did a few chores then decided to go into town to see the Alamo. It was about a 25 min trip and it took me that long again to figure out the one way streets and find a parking spot. It was one of those lots where you go to the kiask and buy the number of hrs you want. That accomplished I walked a block and found the Alamo. Right in the middle of town surrounded by big beautiful live oaks and walls that have all been reconstructed. I talked to people at the information center about the river cruise and where to park for that and how to get ... read more

blog 02-27-19 Heading to San Antonio There was a rude awakening for me this morning when I looked out the window and saw the tail lights on in my car. How did that happen! All I can think of is when I turned off the lights last night after the movie I must have hit the parking lights by mistake. I tried to start the car but of course there wasn't enough juice for that. Now what, I had to be in O'Connor about 35 min away to have the oil changed in my camper at 9 am and it was 7 am. I got the jumper cables from the trunk and the plan was to ask the campground people for a jump start when they came to work. Just then a car came by and ... read more

blog 02-25-19 Texas Traffic!! It was a beautiful morning, on the cool side about 65, but wonderful. Watson and I took a walk along the lake and passed a swan having breakfast on some grass. Watson wanted to visit but I didn't agree so we headed back to the camper and prepared to depart. I was in Livingston, LA and had a 5 1/2 hr drive to Columbus, TX. I left at 9 am and headed west on Interstate 10 thinking I would miss the morning commute in Beaumont, wrong. Traffic was backed up for about 3 miles and it only took 1/2 an hour to negotiate those 3 miles. 10 opened up and it was smooth sailing at 70 mph. I stopped for a bathroom break, lunch break then gas, I was good to go ... read more

blog 02-24-19 Four States Today! I got all prepared to leave at night so you'd think that leaving on time would be easy, not. I was confused by the time change because FL is in eastern time and Alabama is in central time and my phone must have been pinging off the Alabama tower. So you'd think I'd be early but I was just confused. Don't get old, I'll blame it on that. The time was important because I was going to meet my cousin's daughter Ellie in Mobile about 1 1/2 hrs away. She is a marine biologist working in and around Mobile Bay. Not only a huge port but equally large estuary with 5 rivers emptying into it. Use paper straws! We did get together and had a delightful lunch at Cracker Barrel eating ... read more

blog 02-21-19 Departing Day The day before departing Flagler Beach I did some wash and enjoyed the beach then set out to put everything away. It was no small task after being here for 2 weeks, I had things all over. The inside was worse than the outside and it took some time to stow all my stuff and find a place for everything. My next door neighbors invited me to dinner so we had a lovely evening talking and eating and a little wine. After dinner we had dessert in their screen room and watched the moon rise again, spectacular. Picture The next morning I woke up early and after about 1/2 an hour I was ready to hook up the car and head west. My neighbors came by to say good bye and the ... read more

02-18-19 Beach Day It promised to be a beautiful day although we started it late, sleeping in. We had a leasirly morning then headed to the beach. The destination was the beach down the road so Watson could come with us. We walked for a while then found a fairly shallow spot to cross a tidal pool so we could go further out where the sand was higher. Watson was a trooper and was not too upset about going through some water to go further out. Walking along the sand bar we discovered a very small crab about the size of a silver dollar and a fairly large jellyfish that met it's fate in the surf. Pictures We enjoyed the sea and sun then headed into town for a late lunch. Marg and I picked The ... read more

Sat. 02-16-19 was another beautiful day and even warmer. Marg and I went into Flagler again and had breakfast at our favorite place, The Funky Pelican. We were able to get a seat right away at the counter overlooking the ocean and we watched Osprey fishing and men surfing. Pictures. The temperature was perfect with a slight breeze to keep the bugs away and we loved all the goings on. We spent the afternoon on the beach, I took some bird pictures then it was time to head back to get cleaned up for dinner. We did a repeat of the night before on the deck but warmer this time and the clouds were a brilliant pink. Perfect. blog 02-15-19 Margie's arrival It was a beautiful day, temp about 68 with sun and clouds. After breakfast and a nice walk we had a little rest then it was time to pile into the car and head to Jacksonville to pick Margie up at the airport. Thankfully the traffic was not heavy and Watson and I were there at the appointed time. Marg's plane landed and she was waiting for us at the arrival doors when we got there. She was smothered in kisses from Watson and hugs from me then off to the beach we went. We took a walk then decided to head into Flagler for dinner. There was a place along the way that overlooked the ocean so we parked and claimed our seat on the upstairs deck with a gorgeous view. ... read more
