blog 03-31-19 Exploring Elephant Butte It was a slow start to the day and after a big breakfast and a walk around the campground, Watson and I took a ride north by way of a sand road. I was extra careful to stay on the well traveled part with stones in it. if you got in the soft sand we'd be calling a tow truck. We saw campers parked right next to the water in their own little piece of heaven. The park lets you dry camp or boon dock anywhere you want to go so some of the spots are very imaginative, thanks to 4 wheel drive monster trucks. blog 03-28-19 and 03-29-19 Truth or Consequences On Thursday Lynne and I went into town (Truth or Consequences) and had a soak. There is a hot spring that Lynne found last year and I thought it would be fun to try it with her. You pay $12.00 for an hour and you have a choice of about 10 pools, or you could choose a private pool for an little more. I went into the coolest pond first but before too long it got really warm and I had to go get a cool shower, then back in the tub. The mineral water is taunted to heal your body and enjoy it while it's happening. blog 03-25-19 City of Rocks SP Today Pat and I had plans to travel north to the third state park in our area. It's name is City of Rocks and it is about a square mile right out of the Flintstones, it could pass for Bedrock. We went to the visitor's center and read some information about the park and saw a short film on how the park came to be. It was formed initially when a volcano erupted and left a layer of rock that ultimately was worn away from erosion. It wore away unevenly and left individual rocks standing, some in clusters. The campground is carved into the rock formations and each site is unique. We walked around for a while, in and around the rocks imagining what the different shapes represent. blog 03-22-19 We Made it Back Thursday was a day to catch up on necessary household chores, laundry, grocery shopping and a little cleaning. Friday morning Pat and I left to go on our adventure. We headed south to Columbus and drove through the Poncho Villa State Park to get a feel for the park to see if staying there was an option at some future date. Columbus is the site of the first invasion of the continental United States by a foreign country. In 1916 Poncho Villa and a band of men crossed the border and attacked Camp Furlong. Several days later General Pershing led an army of men across the border to punish Poncho Villa but they were not successful. The reason for the raid was never known. blog 03-19-19 Rockhound The sun is shinning today and I went to Rock Hound State Park about 20 miles from here. I heard it was a beautiful place to camp and I wanted to see what it had to offer. It was beautiful and Watson and I took a walk on one of their trails to see if we could spot a treasure. You can take rocks home from here as long as they don't weigh more than 17 lbs. Oh wow, a legal place to gather rocks! It was mid day and starting to get hot so we didn't go far but I did manage to get 2 little rocks to add to my water garden at home.
