Hello everybody and welcome to Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand!! WFFT was founded in 2001 by a Dutch gentleman in love with mistreated or disabled animals. So this year it’s the foundation’s 10th anniversary! Our first day here is strange, a bit like having jet-lag. We wake up at 6:00 am as elephants (the animals we’ll be taking care of) are fed at that time. We’re pretty tired as our first night here was a bit of a nightmare: the foundation houses not only elephants but MANY other animals in need of help. There are bears, monkeys, apes, crocodiles, tigers, otters, wild boars, exotic birds, eagles, turtles, rabbits, dogs and others. We love dogs but we don’t love their ‘barking & howling concert’ on our first night here. Jesus! That was serious noise! The next morning, Tommy ... read more

I quite enjoyed the 4 hour bus trip to Mae Sariang, with winding roads through the forest and a few nice villages along the way. Once there I ran into a guy I met in Mae Hong Son, so we made plans to hire a couple of bikes the next day. We were pretty lazy in the morning so we just went to the local swimming spot and then up to a temple on a hill in the afternoon. Next morning we rode the 40km to a small village on the border with Myanmar called Mae Sam Laep where you can take boats up river into a national park. Unfortunately we didn’t have the time to do this so we headed back to Mae Sariang with a quick visit to another national park on the way. ... read more

BANGKOK - HUA HIN - PATTAYA.

Hi there you have not heard from me in a few days. Well you can blame that on the hotel I am in who don't have WiFI and the fact that I am in this amazing spot where one does not want to spend too much time inside. I basicly placed a finger on the map when I decided to leave Bagkok and I hit on a spot called Hua Hin pronounced Hohin, long o. If this is what heaven will be like then I hope I get there. Ha. It is on the seaside about 2/12 hours south west of Bangkok. Apparently this is where the more refined Thais including the King vacation. Because of that it still has some nightlife but it is a bit better calibre including better restraunts etc. Then there is ... read more

Suzanne here... The minibus to Hua Hin was a success. Half the price and journey time of the train and comfortable enough. All the other passengers were Thai, which makes you feel you are doing the right thing, if it's good enough for the locals. It was a bit of a crazy trip with birds in a box behind us and the driver with his foot glued to the accelerator. It seemed to us that there were a couple of near misses! Some of the roads were really flooded too. I'd done a quick search of guesthouses at the hostel as I knew Hua Hin could be expensive. We made our way straight to one of them - Tientong. There was nobody there when we arrived which confused us a bit. We waited around and after ... read more

There is a strange thing that happens when you live overseas. People take weekend trips to Vietnam or Japan or Korea or, in my case, Thailand. In the states this would be like taking a trip to Florida or California or just to a random city in the midwest. I never thought I would have the lifestyle of traveling to another country over a weekend, and yet here I am. First of all...I want to say that I had a GREAT AWESOME FABULOUS time in Thailand. The weekend was filled with a lot of relaxing, wonderful pool and massage time as well as some more adventurous and interesting stories. Before I tell some of these stories, however, know that I am back in Hong Kong safe and sound....everything turned out just fine! :) The trip down ... read more

Woke to breafast in the room which was a suprise as we had forgotten we added it when booking. With breaky done we went to explore the complex and view the Sheraton Hotel in who's grounds our villa is situated. As always the brochures over sell things and we soon found we would have to pay extra to use the facilities at the Sheraton along with extra payment for electricity if we went over our allocated amount. As things here are that bit cheaper we took the news with smiles and just got on with our holiday. On the up side the villa is very good value for money and has a one and a half kilometre swimming pool going straight past our balcony, along with all the essential additions such as hair dryer and tele ... read more

The owners explained to me that they were over booked yesterday and that's why I was in the room (cell) that I was in and so I was able to move rooms. This time it smelt normal and it did have a window, 2 in fact but also big massive gaps where all my mozzie mates could get in!! I decided leaving the air con on would be ok (mozzies don't like it cold) but that in itself sounded like an aircraft taking off - very glad I had earplugs! Was much happier in new room tho! I had hoped the "travellers bar" right across the street from my hostel might be a good place to have a beer in the evening. It should have been called the "pole dancing bar" instead - glad I noticed ... read more
