Tuesd ay 1 July Left Wick with plans to finish around Aviemore. Finally managed to see some wildlife, driving past a couple of red deer, seeing seals on the Cromarty Firth and then watching a dolphin at North Kessock Dolphin Centre (Inverness). Moe was on a mission to cover some of the hundreds of miles that the Sat Nav were showing to get to Bingley so drove straight through the Cairngorns sticking to the main A9 having experienced enough single roads. Stopped for a short break at pretty Pitlochry. Strolled around village and enjoyed tea and cake. Finally stopped at campsite near Glenrothes to avoid hitting Edinburgh at rush hour. Too tired to cook so after watching second half of Argentina match, walked to Balbirnie House, through the country park for a pleasant meal at the ... read more

Pub was good and after a few beers and several games of pool we retired back to the van for the second half of the football. Off to the Smoo cave first thing and an interesting tour by quite an eccentric local who made the small boat ride quite entertaining. A must do if you visit Scotland. From Smoo we headed off for the most northern point on the UK mainland at Dunnit Head. another long drive up a single track lane but again worth it for a rewarding 360% view of the end of Scotland. Sue was hoping to see some marine life but she left once again disappointed. From here it was only a short drive to behold the wonders of John O' Groats. As expected a tourist trap with tacky souvenirs and coffee ... read more

Europe June 29th 2014

Saturday 28th June Our meal was great so arrived for the ferry with a full stomach which turned out to be not a good thing for a rough crossing. Two and a half hours later we arrived in Ullapool an hour after we were scheduled so pulled up on the site in town and quickly turned off the engine. We awoke after a little lay in and after doing some washing we set off north. Our destination was a camp site in Clachtoll about an hours drive. The day would have been relaxed with a short drive but unfortunately I left my phone charger and battery at the camp site. After a round trip of ninety minutes we were back on track. The journey was exactly what we have come to expect with fantastic views and ... read more

Sunday 22nd June - evening Arrive in Skye with no plans. Drove 13 miles down single lane to Elgol. Gorgeous harbour. Went for walk, climbing over rocks on beach. Dead end road. On way back, parked up by Loch Slapin for our first night of wild camping. Monday 23rd June Woken up at 5am by a sheep using van as a scratch post. Set off planning to stop at Broadford, second largest village on island but nothing really there. At Sligachan we wandered along pretty stream and made statues out of the rocks/stones. Moe had to keep redoing his as his competitive streak meant he had to make the tallest. Carried on to Neist Point, furthest point west on Skye. Unfortunately, the cloud had closed in on us and couldn't see lighthouse. Stayed for lunch but ... read more

Saturday 21 We awoke to sunshine and after breaky cycled to the local Flea Market for a bit of retail therapy. Once packed we headed off with Fort William entered into the sat nav. On route we stopped and took in the views at the Black Mount overlooking LochTulla for lunch then continuing through stunning scenery in Glen Coe arriving at Glen Nevis campsite beneath the Ben Nevis mountain range. Already the views have been amazing and not one mile of our journey has disappointed. after booking into camp site we went for a drive up the valley to visit Lower Falls waterfall right in the heart of the national park. Pasta and garlic bread for tea and a walk to the local pub for a couple of beers. A great day! Sunday 22 A grimmer ... read more

Headed off after the football disappointment and made good time getting to Stafford motorway services. Bedded down by 2am and awoke fresh at 7 ready to go. The journey up was bearable and we stopped off for lunch in Penrith and found a nice Thai doing lunchtime specials. We set off after lunch and got to our campsite at the base of Loch Lomond in Balloch about 4pm. We've been for a bike ride and had fresh wild sea bass for dinner. looking forward to getting to Fort William tomorrow when the adventure really begins.... read more

Europe August 24th 2013

A slow start to the day with the usual chores carried out before heading up to track. Just practice day today so not so crowded. Pleased to find the two mile journey to track was covered by a free shuttle bus so made use of it and saved a cycle. Watched F1, GP2, GP3 and Porche cup racing until about 5 then headed back. Track was a little daunting to walk round on first day so we found a spot close to our entrance. Racing was great and the atmosphere awesome even on practice day. Made a few more friends on campsite and sat drinking beer and exchanging stories till about 10pm. Party went on for a few more hours but with two big days ahead we hit the sack early. Yes even me!... read more

Europe August 22nd 2013

Had a lovely day yesterday driving along the river Mosel and through the vineyards until we found ourselves looking down on the beautiful town of Cochem with it's great looking castle. Headed straight to the Wildpark at the top of another peak and spent a couple of hours viewing wild boar, goats, various types of deer, wolves, etc, birds of prey and paradise with the highlight being brown bears. Not exactly what I would describe as a Wildpark but there was a roller coaster that had stunning views and a log flume that helped to keep us cool. Went for to an Asian restaurant in the evening in Cochen. Drove to Francorchamps and picked up F1 tickets. After a bit of struggle managed to find the L'Eau de Rouge campsite and have our little space for ... read more

Now in the Mosel wine region and the lanscape, culture and tourist's have changed. It's g one from young families to old wino's like us. Drive today was about 2 hours in total so a fairly relaxed day. After a cycle to the town and a walk around we settled in for the evening with Chris on the laptop, Sue head in her puzzle book and me doing Blog and facebook. Camp site is right on the river so its been quite nice watching all the river traffic as the sun set behind the hills. No fixed plan for tomorrow so just a few more miles to get out the way to get closer to Spa on Friday. Excitement growing and crossing fingers for the weather.... read more
