The next stop on my travels took me by plane to Phuket. This crazy piece of Thailand sits on the Andaman coast and is known for beaches, ladyboys and lots of crazy shenanigans! Decided to stay in a quieter part of town (chickens!) and surin beach was lovely but there wasn't a lot to do! Spent the first chilling-getting my best tan yet in record speed, the next day was a rain off as my first storm hit bringing torrential rain for 15hrs straight! Patong beach was the next destination and is really just like any other holiday resort- masses of people, cheap beer+ endless bargains from what I like to call 'looky looky' men! In true Clairey style I threw myself in buying to pairs of genuine fake ray ban sunglasses for........ £4! Anyway to finish this part,we ... read more

It's so hot today. After Songkran yesterday, it's supposed to get colder here until November time. Most Thai people wear jeans and gear we would wear in the snow! Songkran Songkran was so much fun, we didn't invest in any water squirting devices, probably a good deal as they were all around 12-13 quid each, and the festivities have all stopped today! We were quite content to just get soaked the whole day. It was very refreshing actually as most people just poured water over you as you passed through the tight streets, but others just blasted you with their supersoakers. Either way, you have 0 chance of staying dry. If you come to Thailand in mid April, expect to get wet! I didn't even dress for dinner last night, just my swimming shorts on, as ... read more

I need to get this off my chest before I go into any further detail: I SWAM WITH SEA TURTLES! Wait, turtles in plural? Oh yeah! Not just one but two gorgeous sea turtles within a 20 minutes span! My life is complete. But to start at the beginning: We embarked on our snorkeling adventure at 7.30 o'clock down at "The Adventure Club". A Swedish guide, Lucas, handed us wet suits and told us that we would go to four different spots. As I put on the wet suit, I felt a weird itch on my thigh under the suit. When I scratched, I heard a crunching sound. Uh oh. I lifted the wet suit at my leg and watched in horror as a half-dead cockroach fell to the floor. Talk about being traumatized. Don't mind ... read more

Today started at 6 am - a little too early in my opinion - but we had to pack our stuff and catch a bus to the ferry dock. Two nights at one of the beautiful Phi Phi Islands! The ferry ride was a whole different experience! The majority of the tourists were either Indians or Chinese - both of which found our Scandinavian family to be quite the attraction! Especially Kia with her blonde hair had her picture taken (candid at first, then she was asked to pose with various Indians and Chinese guys). As the youngest sibling, she basked in the sudden attention. The tourists got a bit carried away and ended up dragging Katja and me into the picture-taking, and two young Chinese women got hold of a tall blonde guy to pose ... read more

The boat ride to Phi Phi was one of the better ones, the boat wasnt packed and we could sit inside or sunbathe on the deck wherever we liked. As we pulled up to the Port the water was crystal clear and full of fish. We thought as this was the pier it could only get better on the other side of the landsplit where we planned to stay. We searched for a cheap place for ages in Phi Phi and this was one of the only places we have struggled to find something. The accom is really expensive here and the cheapest we found was 400 baht for a dungeon room. It was underneath someone elses room and just had a fan. It was shared showers and toilets but as we only planned on 2nights ... read more

20th March ’12 Ko Lanta to Ko Phi Phi Another minibus, another ferry and we arrived in Ko Phi Phi which felt like the big city after the peace, quiet and lack of people in Ko Lanta. We were staying in the bustling ‘town’ right by the food market – with a balcony overlooking the fish stall….. but only 5 minutes walk from either of the two beaches. The whole place has a Carribean look and feel and it is mega hot! This place is tourist central with loads of bars and everything geared up for the young back packers – you could even get a free bucket of booze if you volunteered to put on the boxing gloves and go a round in one place! Still the setting is lovely, a beautiful bay, white beaches, ... read more

Hello!! We arrived in Koh Phi Phi by ferry and it was the most amazing place we have ever been it was so pretty and we had the best time here. We decided that we were not going to pre-book our accommodation because the island was small and we knew it would be easy to find somewhere. When we first got there we got speaking to a guy from a dive shop who just happened to be from Northampton so he said he would look after our backpacks while we looked for somewhere and he also gave us loads of advice about where to go and stay etc... Because Phi Phi was so busy lots of the cheaper places were fully booked so then we saw the more expensive places with pools and we just decided ... read more

So after another incredibly disorganised Thai trip, involving about 3 buses and 2 boats, we eventually made it to the Phi Phi islands. When uyou are on the boat approaching it, it looks unbelievable, clear blue water, whit esands, csurrounding cliffs, its amazing. The place that Stacey and Darryl recommneded we stay in was fully booked so we couldnt stay there, but we spoke to a guy in a travel agent place who sorted us out with Sunset View Bungalows where strangely enough Duncan and Amir are staying (the guys we met in Phanang). The bungalows are so cool, they are made entirely out of bamboo and about 20 seconds walk from the sea. The bathroom has massive rocks in the middle of it which are really cool. We went out to dinner at the Reggae ... read more

Final night in Phucket turned out to be an awesome night.....most likely our best night so far. A woman advertng some show got us to follow her into a bar, we thought we'd go as she said the show was free and we just go and see if we like it. We walked throuh this big bar made up of all smaller bars. The woman was taking us right the way to the back. When it appeared she was going to take us into a separate room we decided not to follow, as it seemed pretty dodgy! We went back towards the front and saw a bar with all Welsh flags and Welsh rubgy and football jerseys so we deciced to stop here. The owner was Welsh from Rhondda and was very friendly. We met some ... read more
