11/2/12 – 13/2/12 Ko Lanta - by Terry Leaving Ko Lipe was a massive comedown for us. We peaked with paradise a little too soon, but you don’t realise that until you leave and visit the next place. Our trip to Koh Lanta was a ‘Five Parter’ – Boat, Minibus, Minibus, Speedboat, Songthaew (that’s a pick-up with seats in the back). We had paid 850 Bht (£17pp) on Koh Lipe to leave at 9am and arrive at 4pm the sameday. The ferry ride back to Pakbara, on mainland Thailand, was as crammed as it could have been. I’m very sure they just keep selling tickets until the boat leaves and operate under the principal ‘nobody gets left behind’. For each wave we hit the roof of the boat flexed downwards under the pressure of luggage piled ... read more

Day 1: Our first day, we met our dive instructor at 8am to go through the theory part of the course. It was like being back at school for the first half of the day, watching educational dvds. I must admit I was dosing a few times but my "dive buddy", Aoife, woke me. Your dive partner is referred to as your "dive buddy", buddy for short. After lunch we got to the more interesting practical training. Our dive instructor, Lorraine, first showed us how all the scuba equipment worked, how to put it all together and how to prepare properly for your dive. When we got all the gear on, we had to walk about five minutes to a sectioned off part of the beach. The gear is about 12KG and the weight belt is ... read more

When myself and Vinny were leaving Chiang Mai to head to the airport, our guesthouse called us a tuc tuc. What arrived can only be described as a Celine Dion fanclub on wheels! The tuc tuc was decked out with a massive flat screen TV that came down in front of us, with a Celine Dion concert on and the music blaring from speakers on either side! It was hilarious, being driven through the city streets with Celine Dion classics blaring from the tuctuc causing many people to stop and just stare!! Vinny took a really funny video of it! We got to the airport and had to wait hours as our flight was delayed. Upon arrival in Phuket airport in the middle of the night, we were surrounded by taxi drivers who were quite aggressive. ... read more

This am we had to set our alarm!! For 6.40am! But we knew it would be worth it! Early buffet breakie and then we got our gear and headed out the front to wait for our taxi van to pick us up. Mum was really anxious cos she gets very seasick and we were going to be on a speedboat for a lot of the day. We got to Chalong bay were the trip started and there were sooo many people. We all got given a coloured heart sticker and whatever colour we were corresponded to what boat we were in. Luckily as we arrived we saw that they provided us with free sea sickness tablets so we both took one just incase. We rented some fins for snorkelling and then had to wait in the ... read more

The Island of Koh Phi Phi. Arrived on the island after pleasant trip, calm seas and sunshine. Madness at the port due to being harassed by local selling accommodation. Mentioned to one or two our proposed accommodation and they laughed. Not good. Dragged ourselves and bags up main street and after 5 mins heard my name shouted and there sat Emma, Mike and Sarah, Emma’s original travelling buddy who has remained on the Island for the past nine months working and chilling. Had quick chat, set up meet for later then sweated our way up and round another mountain? Nearly revolted on way due to exhaustion and no end in sight. Eventually found the bungalow or better known as a shack and crashed out for 20 minutes to catch our breath. Very exclusive room containing not ... read more

Hello hello everyone, sending you my best wishes from the sunny island of Koh Phi Phi, Thailand! The island itself is covered in mountains, rainforest and beautiful beaches and only very small parts of it are actually inhabited by people and tourists. Many resorts are so closed off, the only way to reach them is by long boat taxis. There are no roads on Koh Phi Phi so if you want to go anywhere you have to walk, cycle, swim or get a long boat which is really refreshing compared with the busy polluted city of Bangkok! Since we have been here we have mostly lazed about on the beach, making sure to keep topped up on the sun tan lotion and have unfortunately been bitten around 40 times!! My legs look like an albino dalmation ... read more

Naz: Hi again, sorry about the long wait for this third installment but its pretty hard to tear myself away from the paradise in which I am living on this island. We won't bore you with how beautiful this island is, firstly because it is utterly indescribable and secondly because we have so much to talk about. The beach is so beautiful and tranquil during the day but come sunset the island comes alive and the beach front lights up with fire dancers and bright lights at every bar with all sorts of beach games from the traditional limbo to gigantic neon skipping ropes. Of course we tried them all and duly took all the free shots for our efforts. On one of the nights we went out for some water and Ric came back with ... read more

So we were back working at banana bar and life got back into the same routine. Lie in, lunch at DMC, (what we ordered to eat depended on how many buckets we had consumed the night before )a few hours at the beach if the weather was good, a movie in the room if the weather was bad, dinner at DMC and then off to work we would go! We became somewhat VIP customers at DMC the staff would welcome us like best friends every time we went and they would joke saying see you later or tomorrow! We thought we'd be cool and make a poster to go on the wall with all the others; our poster was a master piece and we noticed a very rude poster which they obviously had not noticed that ... read more
