Arrived in Phi Phi this morning, its meant to be a beautiful island but just my luck I'm here during a monsoon!! Have to say doesn't look so great in the rain!!! Laura and I walked around for ages trying to find a nice place to stay at a decent price and ended up in a hotel on the beach front- little more than we wanted to pay but as we are only here for one night and its chucking it down we just couldn't be bothered to hunt around any more! I have booked a boat tour around the island for tomorrow morning before we go back to Phuket. It is meant to be for snorkelling but its cheaper than a boat tour with a local and the dive place was recommended in the lonely ... read more

Ok so I'm not actually blogging from Phi Phi because internet cafe's were a rip off and waited til I got back instead. All started on Friday, the boat left at 2:30 which meant I had to leave school a little early to be in town ready for the pick-up to the port. In typical fashion the weather was glorious in the morning but as soon as me and Jenny (the other volunteer at the school) got into town the heavens opened and the monsoon hit!! Luckily the boat had indoor seating. After roughly 1hr 45mins and an only slightly choppy crossing we were stepping foot on Ko Phi Phi pier ready to pay our 20Baht 'clean up fee' (a measly 50p). From there we followed the directions Jenny was given to our hotel, 'The Orange ... read more

We're finally down at the islands!! It is definitely very nice to get out of Bangkok. Last night we were in Ao Nang near Krabi. We took a boat to Railay beach which was stunning... apparently it is one of the best in Thailand. We climbed up a pretty much vertical rock face / 'path' to a view point and it was definitely worth all the effort. In the evening we went out for a spicy curry and the tuk tuk driver let Abi drive it into town!! This morning we got a ferry over to Ko Phi Phi. The beach isn't as nice just because it's covered in bars and rubbish, but we walked up 500 steps to the view point / tsunami evacuation site (scary!) to watch the sun set. We could see both ... read more

Sasha So I lost my flip flops last night. Okay, I'll start from the beginning. Krabi, a concrete beach town, turned out to be pretty crappy. So, after snorkling on a few surrounding Islands (including the island where the movie "The Beach" was filmed) two people from our group, Mike and Phoebe, decided to stay on Phi Phi island with us for the night instead. We went to dinner at this hole in the wall, mom and pop place and had really good pad Thai there, accompanied by a large Chang beer. Then we went to the beach and watched a fire show at this place called Monken. It was on a roped off area and not as romantic-seeming as when I saw it at Khoa Samed last time. There the guys were tattoo artists ... read more

We started our journey out from Koh Tao late at night headed for the port town of Surat Thani. From here we were due to jump on a bus which would bring us to our final destination of Krabi. The journey itself again was not found wanting for complexity or comedy! The initial boat ride that carried us through the night crammed a hundred or so travellers into tiny sleeping spaces, cramped next to each other and of course we got the spot with the broken over-head fan. The journey itself wasn’t comfortable, and it had crossed my mind that I had been deceived and once at Surat Thani, I would discover I had been victim of an illegal people trafficking operation. Despite this, spirits were high on the crossing, anticipating what lay ahead. For us, ... read more

Bonjour, Bonsoir! ... read more

Hello again, So we made our way to Phi Phi after a nice chilled out time in Railay, on arrival there was the standard wave of touts that you had to say no to and we were approached by a Dutch lady who owned a local dive shop, I was thinking about doing some more diving so we went inside and she gave us some info on diving in Phi Phi and also gave us a map and some suggestions on where to stay on the island. We wondered off standardly promising that we would return to book some diving....... (which i didnt end up doing, standard) We found what looked like a nice little guesthouse and after checking out a few others decided to stick with the first one, our most expensive accommodation yet (at ... read more

The journey from Siem Reap to Phi Phi was massive. We left early morning and arrived at the Thai border at peak time for the sun, which made the hour border crossing in the beating sun absolutely terrible. 35 degrees, whilst we had to our luggage about and fill out paper work. Horrible. We reached Bangkok at 6.30pm, which meant he was also got to experience rush hour during monsoon rain, not fun. Moved very little for an hour and a half. The train we were hoping to catch was at 7.30pm and we arrived there at 7pm, needless to say it was full, so we got a bus down that night, at the same time. We paid over the odds, the guy got definitely tell we were in a rush and did not want to ... read more
