Quiet Koh Lanta… veeeery quiet indeed! Our journey to Koh Lanta was quite uneventful but we surely managed to test all sorts of means of transport on the way! First a pick-up truck took us to the pier where we got our boat stickers, then the boat to Suratthani, then a bus to some very odd spot (in the middle of nowhere to be exact) in Krabi, where everybody was bombarded with accommodation offers for Krabi and Koh Lanta (unsuccessful offers unfortunately), then a car to some tourist office in Krabi, where they gave us another sticker and tried to convince us to book accommodation through them for Koh Lanta (this time successfully), then a van all the way to Koh Lanta (via a ferry to get to the island of course). It took us almost ... read more

If you've read any of our previous travel blogs you will know we love Phi Phi and have been here many times. Each time we visit the stays seem to get longer and all of a sudden we found ourselves living and working here. So now we're living in Thailand, on a island, in bamboo hut with walls that don't quite meet the ceiling. Our room at Chunut House comes equipped with a fan, mosquito net, cool water shower and many little "extra" things we will find out about as time goes on. We quickly make friends with the six cats, a monkey, a really large gecko, snakes, frogs, bats, rats and you name it...we saw it at least once while we were there. We've got free wi-fi, a tv with three Thai channels and one ... read more

So we set off from Bondi to begin our epic journey to Ko Phi Phi, taking every form of transport we could possibly imagine along the way. On our way out of Australia, immigration requested a "chat" with us about staying 2 days longer than our visa allowed (ooops! Black marks against our names then)... Hopefully they'll still let us in next time we visit. Our flight from Sydney to Bangkok was delayed so we eventually landed at 3am and shot through border control and baggage collection in record time, only to have a 6 hour wait before our next flight to Krabi. We were flying with Bangkok Airways, who describe themselves as a 'boutique airline' - we're still not really sure what that is but we are now big fans, as they were super cheap ... read more

We’re still traveling after nearly three years since our last blog. We are no longer nomads but have chosen to live in Southern Thailand. Since we are living in one place it did not seem appropriate to write a travel blog, but now we are looking back at the last few years and it seems like we’ve got a great story to tell. Here’s where we left off in June 2010… But, as good as it was to be home, it wasn’t long before we started missing the island lifestyle. We wanted to get back to the beaches, diving, people we met, the simplicity and realizing you aren’t sure what day it is, never mind the date. It’s hard to explain all the reasons; mainly it is where we are happy right now. We returned to ... read more

We took a bus and a boat from Phuket to Ko Phi Phi. The Island is extremely beautiful – there is no roads and people get around on push bikes. We had big plans for Ko Phi Phi to see the beach that ‘The Beach’ was filmed on and James Bond Island and snorkelling but because wed been so badly sunburnt a couple of days before we were in too much pain to just chilled on the beach under umbrellas. The only thing we managed to do was go to a beach party because that was at night and didn’t involve being exposed to the sun lol We had booked acommadation in Ko Phangan for Xmas and NYE so we had to move on before we were well enough to do all the things we wanted ... read more

First things first - Koh Phi Phi is not a quiet, undiscovered island. It is full almost all the time (especially in high season from November-April) and as it is so small can feel quite claustrophobic. Loud parties on the beach go on until 4am every night (in 2011 there were only 3 parties a week which went on til 2am), and the village doesn't close down until 2am (previously mid-night). Accomodation, for the standard you get, is expensive compared to other islands in Thailand. Locals appear to be less friendly and more greedy than elsewhere we have been. However, it still has beautiful beaches, good restaurants and stunning views across the ocean, as well as a great traveller vibe which is why we chose to come here. We took a 2 hour ferry there from ... read more

Well hello!! Sorry for the lack of blog entries, the wifi in Australia is very rarely free! So let's journey back 2 and a half months when it was still 2012 and before Christmas! 12/12 We woke up (in Bangkok) and checked out of our hotel at 12 o clock. We headed to the hotel pool as our flight was not until later on. We spent a few hours relaxing there and sunbathing. It was very hot. When it was time to leave we attempted to get a taxi from the hotel but there was a massive traffic jam so there were no taxis coming past. The security guard tried to get us a tuk tuk, but there wasn't even any of these around! We realised we would have to walk to the skytrain with all ... read more

Hello :-) So I arrived back from Thailand 2 days ago now and am running out of ways to cheer myself up about no longer being there. I've stared at the tan, uploaded the photos to facebook, told everybody at school how amazing it was and friend requested all the great people I met out there! But, sadly, the memories are fading and so I've decided it's time to write the blog (or at least make a start as it's 10 o'clock at night, I'm exhausted and I have to be up at 5.30am) So we decided to take the Friday night flight out of Seoul to make the most of our time off. We got changed at school, packing our clothes into cupboards and left our classrooms wearing as little as possible so we didn't ... read more

We have now arrived from our 2hr boat ride into Ko Phi Phi Don. When we got off the boat they heard you like cattle through a gate to pay the 20 (0.66 cents) Baht per person fee for being on the island. We started walking passing by the "taxi" people trying to get your business. We did not have a clue which direction to go....so we walked and walked....then I decided to start asking which way to our hotel. They kept saying "left at the 7-11" and i though oh great there is a 7-11 at every corner...well I was wrong there are only two on the Don island...so left it was....now which way? We finally got a clear english anwer and it was right at the corner bend. So on and on we walked....this ... read more

After 3 fun-filled days, we are hopping on the ferry back to Phuket today. We arrived in Koh Phi Phi on Wednesday afternoon, and while it would be nice to stay longer, I think it's good we are leaving today. The weather here is unbelievably hot, humid and sunny. After being on Phi Phi for about 3 hours, I managed to acquire a sunburn, despite applying SPF 50 diligently. Phi Phi is great for being outdoors and enjoying nature or the beach, making it hard to stay out of the sun. Our hotel is a traditional Thai bungalow, which means there is no A/C (not so bad as it cools down at night) and the shower only has cold water. However, that's not a problem as it is so hot outside that the cold shower is ... read more
