Teaching on Friday morning was probably the most fun we've had with the class, we taught them how to describe each other, taught them body parts and taught them directions and various names for different movements. After learning a bit of vocab we integrated it all into a game involving shouting instructions such as "touch your toes" or "turn around" which they all enjoyed and we felt like the morning had been quite beneficial. We decided that we would meet Dan at 1pm to start our road trip! Our first destination was going to be Pai, but on the way we made a stop at some hot springs. When we arrived, the weather was awful, but we didn't let it ruin our time, infact, it was quite refreshing to have the rain pouring down our backs ... read more

We love Pai seems to be the theme in this small hippy town. We took a mini bus from Chiang Mai 3 hours to Pai. I was very luck to get to sit in the front since I get car sick. I was also very lucky to have a driver that was slow on the turns, so it never became a problem. When we arrived we walked around looking for a place to stay and ended up at Riverside. They are very nice AC rooms, 3 people 600 B. not too bad split between us. It's definitely a place where walking around will get you the best deal. The first night we spent just getting acclimated to the area. Everything is in walking distance which is nice. This place has a really chill vibe. For some ... read more

Day 9 – 29 June We got the hardcore bikie gang onto our 140cc scooters and tore off down the road at snail pace. Little did I know I was soon to contract elephantitis ouch! We landed at a place called Thom’s where they had four wonderful elephants. We scrambled, and heaved ourselves onto the bare backs of these monstrous creatures. Chelsea & Scott’s elephant was even larger than ours and called Tamtoo and Brent’s and mine was called Pempam. After 1 ½ hours ride through jungle we hit the river for some serious wrestles elephant style. They were rebellious, unruly, rowdy, & boisterous, soaking us, trunk style and tossing us into the festy flowing river which undoubtedly was full of elephant defecation! On the way back, we swapped elephants. Scott had been complaining of the ... read more

Day 8 - 28 JUNE We got into Pai last night. Run and Orn were our wonderful hosts at Bueng Pai Farm, a little slice of heaven. We had fishing from our front porch. The serenity and tranquility was a welcome relief. The food they made was soo fresh with homemade yogurt and lots of fresh fruit grown on the farm. Paula and the kids made a special four legged friend there called Panda. We hired a couple of motor scooters and terrorized the neighbourhood doing 40 kms tops. The roads were uncrowded so it was fun just cruising. We scootered past a little restaurant called Na’s Kitchen which had mouth watering aromas emanating from its woks. So we frequented here a few times. In the morning we rented two rods from Run and Brent and ... read more

So in Pai it is the most chilled out place in the world... the bars and cafes are all so cute and quirky, loads of books and swings as seats, cushions and futons. Amazing to just sit and relax whilst they have monsoon style rain in their dry season!! Trekked this morning to a temple up about a million stairs, it was shut. Amazing views back over Pai though. Then found the cutest tea place where we were guinea pigs for the various cookies and spinach filled bread rolls. YUMMY, even better when they are free. Last night sat and drank Sangsom and coke (Thai rum/whisky) whilst playing Jenga, met some really cool people in our bid to escape the lizzard that was the size of my face and the spider the size of my hand ... read more

Day Seven Today we got up early and took a taxi to the airport for our flight to Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand, to eventually catch a bus to the mountain town of Pai. The flight was uneventful and our arrival in Chiang Mai was really nice, as passengers were greeted by ladies in traditional Thai dress offering free local snacks – despite Chiang Mai’s population of around one million people, it had a much more relaxed and personal feel to it. We managed to make it to the bus depot in plenty of time, although it took us quite a while to sort out our bus tickets. We had a bit of the wait at the bus station, so we got some more water from the 7/11, and some street food for lunch. It was ... read more

I went back to Chiang Mai for the second time this trip after I started my solo travels. There is something about this great northern city that draws me. I spent almost 2 weeks in Chiang Mai with a little 3 day side trip to the tiny hippy town of Pai. During my second time in Chiang Mai I really got a sense of what it's like to live there. I met a few people that had been there for a month and they showed me many amazing little spots that I would have missed on my own. The 'old city' of Chiang Mai is full of walking streets and narrow pathways, and cars are not a regular occurrence on these streets. You can easily get to where you want to go by walking on the ... read more

5:45am came early. Especially when we woke up to dog barks a few times through out the night. We checked out and took a tuk tuk to Aya Services, the place we were renting the 2 bikes from to take to Pai. The lady on the phone said the place opened at 7:00am, but to no surprise we sat on the sidewalk for 30 minutes waiting for the place to open. We were a little leary as the first 2 bikes they wanted to give us didn't have lisence plates on them, then the next 2 had dead batteries... finally we ended up with Honda Clicks and they seemed to run fine. The lady gave us 1/2 ass directions and off we went. Of course not even 10 min later we had no clue where we ... read more

Pai is a little backpacker town about 3 hours from Chaing Mai. We arrived on the 11th March and stayed at Happy House Guesthouse. Whilst in Pai we rented motorbikes and went to see Pai Canyon, a waterfall and again more temples. It started out really well on the bikes – it was a boiling hot day then in the afternoon the weather changed and it started torrentially raining which made riding the bikes quite difficult. There was half moon party on in the jungle whilst we were there. This was good, involved us getting drunk once again and therefore, Hayley walking around with her top inside out for the majority of the night and me hungover for 2 days once again!! We stayed for 5 nights in total, without really doing that much except chilling ... read more
