Hello from Pai - After a great few days in Chang Mai we've moved on up to Pai, Bit of a laid back hippy town situated way up in the mountains. It's a bit hazy up here, farmers are burning there fields and there is a lot of smoke so not much of a tan, will have to wait until next month in the islands. Its a bit of a mecca for travellers here and we've been meeting loads of people and getting some really good travel tips aswell of exploring the surroundings, swimming under waterfalls and just generally having loads of fun, sorry forgot to bring my camera lead out with me again but will upload some piccies soon..... read more

The journey to Pai was a bumpy one, by the end of it you certainly new the person next to you, 762 curves in the road meant we were sliding all over the seats. We stayed in the best place yet, bamboo huts on stilts with a hammock chill out area and awsome views of the Thai mountains. It was a tiny town and quite touristy but in a good way. Everyone here was so chilled it was a nice atmosphere to be in! Our 2nd day in Pai we chose to go tubing (big rubber ring) down the river, we got driven 7km up river and dropped off and that was it, we lazily floated through the little villages near Pai getting to see Thai fisherman and other people who clearly lived with the river ... read more

Hello everyone! We are currently sitting in Thaton in northern Thailand waiting to get on a longboat to take us down the river to Chian Mai. Our latest adventures all took place in Pai, northwest of Chiang Mai. The road to Pai is interesting, it is quite possibly the curviest road I've ever experienced. 762 curves, 95% of which are hairpin in nature, combine that with some crazy driving and it made for an interesting ride in. Pai was the town we've all been waiting for. It is a quite, chilled out town on a river full of bamboo huts, hippies, markets, and restaurants. We stayed across the river in our very own bamboo hut which was reached by crossing a rickity but apparently stable bamboo bridge. The hut was awesome except for the fact that ... read more

Good morning boys and girls. Who has been to Thailand? Ok good, most of you. Now who has been to Chiang Mai? Ok, still a good number. Im sure most of you walked past those travel agents with mini-buses to various locations such as the Gibbon Experience, Laos, etc. But who has been to Pai? While staying at my favourite guest house, The Chiang Mai Inn, sitting at the communal table as you do, the subject of Pai came up one day and it met with almost universal approval. As it turned out, about 8 out of the 10 random drinkers were going to Pai, and having decided I wanted to go there a day before hand, it was the obvious choice. Out on the Sangsom buckets the night before departure, at the trusty Roots Reggae ... read more

Our little girl turned a not so little 6 on the 24th November. And what a lovely day it was. Everything a 6thbirthday needs to be. Balloons, presents galore and even a birthday cake. The day started in bed with the birthday fairies arriving at about 5am to fill Geoff and my bed with giant balloons and gifts. Mother duck then treaded water till about 7am when the door creaked open and the day began in earnest. Duvet covers were lifted and balloons investigated, presents discovered and duly unwrapped (never ripped) and cards read and emails devoured. Then came present playing time with two delighted children and their sweets (yes, the birthday breakfast) leaving for an intense play with an imaginative underworld world restaurant that still makes me smile when I think of it emerging. Days ... read more

Hallo meine Lieben! Ich nehme mir ... read more

Were you getting worried? Thought not. Well, if you were, don´t... We´re absolutely fine and our six month trip has most definitely begun. Seventeen-odd days after arriving in Thailand and we´re about to move on to country number two, so it seems a good time to update you all on our travels so far. First stop, Bangkok. As anyone who´s been will tell you, it truly is mental. A city of pink taxis, pink neon and pink ladies (or are they?) that seems to breathe collectively using only carbon dioxide and thick black exhaust fumes. Unsure as to whether the main language was Thai or actually tuk tuk, we marvelled at (and clung on tight within) these little three wheeled taxis, that whisk locals, tourists, food, even animals around the slapdash concrete streets and sardine-packed pavements ... read more

So I believe I last left off on my first night in Chiang Mai. Day 2 in Chiang Mai I booked in to do the Gibbon Experience - a full day of ziplining and abseiling through the jungle, amazing! I was on a tour with an Italian couple, some swiss dudes and their thai girlfriends. Boody the instructor decided I was to be his target for the day so every time we got to a new zip lining station he would pretend to push me off the station - catching me at the last minute, swing me round, and even tried for a few kisses, he just about gave me a heart attack by the end of it! It was great craic though, im definatley going to do the over night gibbon experience in Northern Laos ... read more

by Jan “I came here for two days, but I have been here for two and a half years already” said a Scottish bloke we met and his statement pretty much sums Pai up perfectly. We didn't stay for that long, but we did spend 2 fantastic weeks in Pai. Two weeks full of activities, but with enough time to just relax as well. Pai is a “picture perfect” village situated about 130 kilometres away from Chiang Mai, but due to the mountain roads and a few hundred turns between the cities it takes over three hours to get to Pai. The ride is not comfortable at all and a lot of people have problems with keeping their stomachs in order. We were lucky as we got a ride with Joe from the Giant Guesthouse where ... read more
