We have made it to Singapore. Fight went pretty quickly...managed to watch 3 movies...Match Point, Memoirs of a Geisha and an Alfred Hiscock thriller. They fed us lots of ok food too. But it was still terribly boring. The landing was the roughest I've felt too. An almighty thump! I'm not much looking forward to the next 13 hours....you really do end up feeling like you are stuffed into a can of baked beans with chemical air and food as the sauce... Ed says hello butis keen to get his latte and watch the passing parade. I hopesomeoneout there may enjoy reading my trivia...please add a comment. Hope all's well with youall... read more

So we have finally started our travels. I thought the flight was going to be a nightmare but three sleeping tablets later and wohoo we were in Singapore! It was pissing rain when we arrived and the hostel that we were going to stay in was full so we trecked down the road to another but ended up paying around 90 euro for it. We only stayed there for one night and now were only paying 25 in the Waterloo Hostel. It's basic but clean and we have air con and a TV. We've had a hectic few days and are bait out from it. The heat is unreal too. Think I would have lost a stone in sweat but I'm eating enough to make sure that dosn't happen!! We've been on down to china town ... read more

Hello from Singapore! Arrived late but still had time to spend a couple of hours at the Long Bar at Raffles and shut the place down with my (original) Singapore Sling. Got up early and headed to get my much anticipated cup of coffee and kaya toast. So yum. Photo shows the 4 slices...delish! Wandered down along the boat quay area to the merlion and then down to Chinatown. This is such a great city/country! Gotta come back!! Taking the subway back to the airport was a breeze. Lounge is good. Lots of snacks, bevs, large with nice atmosphere, tvs, computers (usb equip as you've probably already noticed!). Only complaint...though there are lots of windows it's too hard to plane spot with the walkway in between so I guess I won't be catching a glimpse of ... read more

I arrived in Singapore without much idea of what to expect... I mean, I vaguely knew not to spit gum out on the sidewalk or strap drugs to my body as I went through customers but as I do neither anywhere else, I was not too afraid. I stayed at the Singapore Hilton and explored the area around the hotel a bit... found this mall. Full of pushy electronics sales people, tailors and "massage" ladies..... Later that night I went to a pub for a drink and met some locals (European's living in Sing) and they told me that that mall was called "four floors of hoars" - LOL. Did not go back, needless to say. Anyway, as I was contemplating my next move it occurred to me that I was not so far from Bail... ... read more

I was sitting at a table underneath a Coca Cola umbrella at a sidewalk cafe in Singapore's China town when it started. Slowly at first, then with more intensity. The rain trickled off the edges of the umbrella. A shop keeper across the road held out a plastic bag to collect the water. I was trapped with no where to go. I finished the mysterious rice dish that I was eating. It was kind of good, but mostly really bad (I should probably invest in a thesaurus). I ordered a beer to help wait out the storm, and made small talk with the Aussies across from me. Then, it hit me; Violent Diarrhea. To give readers a scope of how desperate things had become, I left a full pint of beer at the table and ran ... read more

Its 1am Singapore time and I am wandering around the airport in a daze. As far as airports go this aint a bad one, it has become like a second home for me as I have travelled through here 4 or 5 times now. Singapore is the half way mark of the flight from Australia but due to waiting time and time zone changes it will be 21 hours between boarding the Qantas domestic flight to Melbourne from Adelaide Airport to disembarking in Dubai. I asked the girl at the check in counter to put me with people I could talk to instead I got a family of Slovenes who couldnt speak english so spent the whole trip by myself, to top that off the movies they were showing I had already seen. Ari and I waved goodbye to Sydney and our loving families and set off on our latest adventure - first stop... Singapore. The reason for this destination was to visit one of my bestest buddies from Melbourne. We hadn't seen each other since the immigration bastards in Australia booted her out of the country back in 2003. We landed at Changi airport in the early arvo and after the hugs and kisses from Jill, we headed straight to our apartment to change into shorts. You see, Singapore is one giant sauna - 30 degree heat plus 90% humidity makes you sweat... all over... profusely. The city is spotless. I'm not saying you can eat off the ground but there's many laws that ensure the public keep the city clean. I saw a shirt that said it ... read more

Thats right!! We have burnt ourselves out a little with all this temple spotting and walking around the city. So Today was not very eventful we are afraid, just did some washing, that's always good when ther machine actually works and clean clothes come out! We went back to the Sri Srinivasa Prnumal Temple on Serragoon Road. This is the prettiest temple we have been to I think, very colourful, less tacky. On the ceilings there were amazing, beautiful patterns. From here we went to China town in search of a bracelet and magnets. 5 hours later, we had the magnets! You wouldn't think something so simple could be so stressful! We both had Char Siew for lunch which was nice. We got caught in the afternoon rain, which was terrential! Later that evening we went ... read more

So, Sunday has come, and the thought of giving up the room already feels like a small defeat. We still do have some time left in town before flying back to Bangkok, which we want to spend to meet some gastronomical goals. Kay is longing for steamed chicken feet and I simply need another cup of masala tea. And there you have the day's itinerary in one sentence; Chinatown and Little India, unsurprisingly, some of our absolute favourite places to be. Kay's desire to seek out new experiences brings us around the block in Chinatown searching for more cantonese restaurants until finally ending up at the Tak Po after all, and the chicken feet (and my char siew buns) are just as excellent today as well. After lunch we head over to Little India again, taking ... read more
