In chang mai we booked a trip to get across the border into Laos. It involved travelling from chang mai to the border, which is the Mekong river then we stayed there over night. you then had the option of getting either a slow boat (2 days) or a speed boat (7 hours ) to Luang Prabang in Laos. We took the slow boat as we heard the speed boats were really dangerous. They were, we saw them flying past and the people some people had helmets on and they were noisey as hell!! The first day on the slow boat was ok as everyone was in good form, chatting away and drinking down beer Lao's (the nicest beer ever, no really it won loads of awards and stuff).
