Spent 11 days in S'pore which went by rather quickly. Most of the times were spent with old friends who were very hospitable (especially Stella). It is quite amazing how I haven't seen these guys in 5 years (some a decade) and yet we all seem to gel back very well. Also it is nice to be in a city that speak English and is run with western efficiency after our brutal bus ride to Krabi from Surat Thani. It took as 8hours (instead of 3hr travel time) thanks to being driven around to bus driver friend's restaurants, tour companies, etc. Also we were forced to share the backseat of a mini van with an caucasion couple which resulted in very cramped 3 hr bus ride. To add insult to injury, because of lack of trunk ... read more

Hiya everyone - nice to hear from you all. Yesterday we went to Sinagpore City Gallery (development/ conservation museum for us geographers). There was a good mniture village and we got our moneys worth (as it was free). We then headed to Singapore Zoo and the Night Safari. The zoo was great (we loved the monkeys, mousedeer and butterflies). There was a little tropical rainforest section where i nearly got attacked by a monkey but luckily i ran away and bobby attracted the butterflies (see pictures!!). We went to night safari - but it was pretty dark so quite hard to see anything. We had a little drama during it as BOB lost the camera but luckly we found it when we ran back for ages to where we came from. Today it is our last ... read more

Dive No. 1 - 15/05/06 - Seven Skies Depth-43.3m Time 96-min This was the first dive of the week and we listened to Jack give his briefing on the dive and the techniques, disciplines and rules for the diving during the coming week. We made a gradual descent down the transfer line to the main anchor line. At this point we could see the funnel of the wreck. We made a brief check on our equipment before descending further. Because this was the first dive, we decided not to enter the wreck but to explorer the outside. The super structure was mostly intact but the wheel house had fallen forward on to the deck covers. We made our ascent back to the transfer lines to complete our decompression plan plus an additional 30 minutes safety stop. ... read more

A city tour later, chat online, dinner in a Hawker centre, and shop in Bugis Village, we wind up home tired with very sore feet. We covered so many places on the City tour - drive past Suntec City (massive shopping centre) and Raffles Hotel, brief shop in a Little India arcade, picture taking near the Merlion statue, shopping in Chinatown, visit to a jewellery factory and stroll through the Singapore Botanic Gardens. We bought a few souvenirs from both Little India and Chinatown and I also finally got an ice-cream sandwhich from the ice-cream stand at the harbour. The funniest thing also happened there....these 2 Japanese girls asked to have a photo with Todd! :) It was so funny! We actually thought they were volunteering to take OUR photo but no they wanted a solo ... read more

We arose this Sunday morning after a good night's sleep and headed down to the restaurant area of the hotel for a disappointing breakfast before checking out of the Holiday Inn Atrium hotel. Once checked out we all meet in the foyer of the hotel and waited for our mini buses to transfer all of us to the Raffles Marina where we would join out dive boat and home for the next six nights, Motor Vessel Mata Ikan. When the mini buses arrived we set off on the twenty-minute drive to the marina where on arrival we unloaded our bags and headed off to the immigration office to be booked out of the county. Next we when into the marina and to a café / bar area close to the moorings where we could see our ... read more

It's Mother's Day, and though missing my "mum," I'm glad we're back to a country where they speak the "Mother Tongue." First thing this morning we headed to the Four Seasons' roof-top pool for breakfast al fresco. This turned out to be a great idea, as it was a beautiful morning to be outside, and every decent brunch/breakfast place in town was fully booked for Mother's Day. So no luck getting into the famed high-tea at the Fullerton Hotel. But we took a nice big bite out of Singapore all the same. We actually spent the balance of the morning taking advantage of the ample hotel amenities -- indoor tennis courts, full gym, and the aforementioned pool. Then we had a tasty lunch near our hotel, which is right on Orchard Road, Singapore's renowned shopping strip. ... read more

Firstly a big HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to our Moms from Singapore! Hope you had a good morning and are out doing something fun or relaxing at home. Ahhhh a good night's sleep makes alll the difference! Slept in till 9am this morning! We got our Internet connection which is why I'm writing this right now! I'm sitting on the floor coz that's the best signal for the wireless! We had brekkie at TCC - The Coffee Connection. It's across the road. Kind of a funky looking coffee shop. Seems to be frequented by tourists only. We had American breakfast - geez how non-Singaporean haha! Maybe tonight we will get something authentic. Everything looks closed...maybe coz it's Sunday. Or maybe they will open up later? Hope so! We have booked a city tour starting at 2pm today. ... read more

Singapore So this is my last stop in Asia. It feels like I have come full circle. I started in Hong Kong and finished in Singapore. Both are almost western cities but still have the Asia edge. Even more than Hong Kong, Singapore is an 'All Asian cocktail'. I guess it's an easy introduction to people who never came to Asia. You get to see some of the typical aspects of Asian societies and you get it in a very clean and well organised environment. Too bad it doesn't have the 'Asian prices'. Hanging around here for a couple of days was a good to way to wrap up my Asia travels. Since I won't be seeing many more in the near future and despite the overdose of temples I had the last months, I ... read more
