I arrived in Singapore 5 days ago now and it has unfortunately turned into one of those places that traps you for far too long. Well me anyway. I can't wait to get out of the place now but it hasn't been all bad being stuck here for a while. It's not the nightmare of expensiveness I expected. There is loads going on once you get under the skin of the place and I'm staying in the best location possible. The zoo has been the highlight of my trip here (as it is for most people I guess). On the second day we (me and an English guy by the name of George, 18) headed down in the afternoon to take a look at the place and it started to piss down with rain and continued ... read more

The last few days. Singapore. 2 degrees north. Hot and humid. Clean and tidy. It actually has some very nice districts in the city. Little India, Chinatown and Arab Street. They are interesting but I can't think of much else to say. Go have a look. We saw some monkeys with big red arses. That was good. One was playing basket ball, the other couldn't be bothered so just watched. We've all been there. The MRT (metro/underground) is very nice. Very clean. I'm starting to sound like a grandmother talking about a prospective partner for a grandaughter. "He's a very clean young man!!". We did have a rather bizarre coincidence whilst vsiting a museum on an island called Sentosa (which purports to be the most southerly point in continental Asia by the way). There is a ... read more

Firstly, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO PAPA OAKLAND - we'll raise a glass or two in your honour ! Arrived Wednesday morning after a great flight with Singapore Airlines. Just had 2 days in Singapore - what a fab place. Everything is so laid back and easy, people are so friendly - even the bloke at passport control has just asked if I've had a nice time and come back soon (not quite like the cuba experience!) Hotel was gorgeous - Swissotel Merchant Court - top marks to carl for his selection ! - might be something to do with the fact that it was opposite HOOTERS ! We were right on Clarks Quay, with fantastic swimming pool overlooking the riverside development and full of amazing bars and restaurants. Weather is fantastic although thunderstorm both days late afternoon ... read more

Spent a night in Omar's backpackers the night before going to Singapore where I met a Canadian lad called Rielly but when we tried to go out on the piss that night and realised that there were absolutely no bars whatsoever in the entire town we both decided that the next day we were gonna HAVE to get off to Singapore coz I can't deal with that! Coach journey there was the first pleasant one I can remember so come 3:30pm we were sat in Little India Singapore looking for a hostel. LP bigged up The Inn Crowd up to fuck but they had no room but Fragrance Hostel 5 doors down did dorms for the same price so checked in there instead. The place is like a 4 star hotel so couldn't recommend it more ... read more

Monday 3rd April 2006 My plan to spend three days or so in Singapore went out the window when I learnt the first valuable lesson of travelling - do what you want, not what you should! It meant a one day stop in Singapore before my flight onto Perth. The journey was a bit mad as I’d decided to go from Puala Perhentians to Singapore in one stretch! It started with a boat from Kecil to Kuala Besut, taxi to the coach station - maybe Kota Baharu but the place name has disappeared from my head! - then on the overnight 12hr coach to Johor Baharu on the border with Singapore followed by a walk through border control then back on the bus and finally a taxi to the hostel! What a journey! - I think ... read more

We flew from Perth to Singapore. Originally this was just to change planes on-route to Thailand, but we decided to stay for a few days. Singapore is a very busy place, lot of people everywhere. But it is very well organized and also very clean. It was very easy to get around on public transport. The MRT (subway) was very good. We spent one day walking around, we walked down to the river and looked around some shopping areas - Singapore has lots of huge, modern shopping centers. We also went to China town and looked around a market area and walked down to the river. Another day we went to the 'Night Safari'. This is like a zoo, but it is only open at night. You ride around in a tram and there are also ... read more

Day 139-140 We flew out of Darwin late afternoon and arrived at our next stop, Singapore in the early evening. We caught the train to Little India, where we were staying. We checked into our hostel, which was really nice, but were pretty shattered so had some pringles and went to sleep. To make up for our lameness yesterday we got up early and walked to the main shopping street - Orchard Street. It was basically a row of malls although each one seemed to have the same shops. They have every shop you could ever want from Gucci, Prada, Armani to Topshop and M&S!! We both really like Singapore and were pleasently surprised as we hadn't heard anything that great about it. In the evening we walked around Little India, which is such a contrast ... read more

Tis a great place to replace any lost/stolen electricals!!! You will all be glad to know that we did in fact pick up a fab new digital camera with so many functions and accessories we're gonna b reading the manual for months! So there will now be plenty more fab photos to make you all jealous :) Did a ton of shopping in Singapore - every other building is a shopping mall. Dunno how the Singaporeans can possibly need so much shopping, but im not complaining :) Everyone we've met so far in Asia has been telling us how clean and lovely Singapore is, but we were a little disappointed. We were expecting gleaming pavements and flowers everywhere!!! But instead we came accross some really stinky drains and a lot of litter in some parts. Felt ... read more

After a brief layover at Perth for one night, we flew (very excitedly) to Singapore. After we had boarded, the plane was delayed for about an hour while they loaded eleven dogs (yes, dogs!) onto the cargo hold. As we were taxing down the runway we could just hear barking over the roar of the engines. Upon arrival in Singapore we caught a transfer bus to our hotel which is 1 block from Raffles. We went into Raffles once and felt rather scruffy so abrupty left without sampling the famous Singapore Sling, maybe next time! We spent a good few days exploring Singapore, eating lots of nice food and taking in the clean and very safe atmosphere. Guy had a treat on his birthday as there was a STAR WARS exhibition on in town which had ... read more
