Well, I'm writing this at about 10.30am, and Stef is still in bed. I hope she is feeling better than me but thanks to our last night out with the Naughty Numpties (you know who you are), there was more wine and beer drunk than was good for us. Oh well, more later.... read more

Well, the countdown is on. Steve and I leave Singapore on 22nd February by coach heading for the Cameron Highlands, Malaysia...... and we can't wait! Singapore has been fab, and we'll be sad to leave, but for now it is time to discover a whole new world backpacking through South East Asia, and we'd like to invite you to join us - well, virtually anyway - by having a look at our site every now and then. We'll update it as much of possible as we travel through Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. They are the chosen countries for now that we intend to see in 4-5 months. However, we shall see where the unbeaten path takes us ;) We hope you enjoy the journey with us, and keep in touch by emailing us ... read more

It is our last day in Singapore and we are moving on tomorrow morning overland across the border to Malaysia. Singapore has been a mix of very hot walking and very cool air conditioned window shopping (window shopping being very difficult because as soon as you merely turn your head towards an item of clothing someone is trying to sell you every colour and size possible). Compared to Hong Kong, Singapore has been a haven of cleanliness, fresh air and sunshine. We are thinking of taking up permanent residence on the MRT (Singapore's cleaner and cooler version of the Underground) but are not sure our visas will cover it. Our hostel (One Florence Close, Kovan - we recommend a visit) is fantastic, really laid back and comfortable and just outside the city centre so the pace ... read more

I went back to Sentosa Island again; this time in the evening. Watched the sunset on the beach (I haven't added a photo of the sunset because it wasn't a very good one - it was quite cloudy) with a few people from my hostel. Then we watched a musical fountain/hologram show, which was interesting/slightly strange (involved a green monkey splashing around in the fountain). ... read more

We really liked Singapore. It is a great blend of Old and New, from the the high-browed history of Raffles Hotel to the modern Shopping Centres and the Esplanade Theatre. The City has a wide ethnic mix, is beautifully clean and has loads to do, although prices are much higher than the rest of Asia. We spent a lovely Valentines Day on Sentosa Island where there is a beautiful Beach and an exciting Cable Car Ride over the Harbour to get there. Singapore marked the end of our trip through South East Asia and we were sad to leave this diverse and colourful continent. ... read more

Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is Singapore's last remaining pocket of primary rainforest. The nature reserve encompasses Singapore's highest hill; although it is only 163m high it is quite a steep climb. I encountered Long-tailed Macaques, butterflies and some small furry creatures (don't know what they're called).... read more

Singapore has been a great place to begin my travels! The people are so inviting and kind! The 90-100 degree weather isn't so bad either considering there's a rumor going around that NY is getting slammed with snow! Singapore is also a clean city and the fines for littering, spitting, jwalking all start around $s500. I arrived at 6:30am so i had the entire day to explore the city. Met up with a fellow traveler from Austrialia, Grahm ( G-i'm sorry, i know i spelled that wrong!) and toured 2/3rds of India! The most memorable experience was def the Thaipusam procession we were invited to join by some of the devotees. We walked 3km from one temple to another. This act of devotion is of thankgiving for illnesses cured or prayers fullfilled. The men that wear ... read more

Sentosa Island is linked to the mainland by a causeway. From the beach a suspended rope bridge connects Sentosa with a tiny islet that is the Southernmost part of continental Asia. I had a lovely day drinking Singapore Slings on the beach, swimming in the sea and viewing the Orchid Gardens. ... read more

Er "western food or local specialities". Ich "Of cource local specialities". Nudeln mit Schweinefleisch, Pilzen ... read more
