Yep me and Will went to the Art of Star Wars exhibition today, infact i dragged Will to it! Soon as I saw it advertised at the information desk I just had to go and luckily Will knows how much of a geek I am. We sat on the underground for 45mins straight a long journey but for me it was even longer I felt like a kid at Xmas, I was finally going to come face to face with Darth Vadar himself! The exhibition was set out in different rooms each room containing various diiferent models and costumes and original art work from each film. Starting with ... read more

Hello All We made it to Singapore, just about, as we were leaving Hong Kong a typhoon was just about to hit. The ferry we were supposed to get was cancelled due to the bad weather and so we had to wait, with fingers crossed for the next one. Luckily it came and after a bumpy crossing we made it to central and the airport. We arrived in Singapore at about 5 in the afternoon and the first thing that struck us was the heat. When we left Hong Kong it had got quite cold at about 10 degrees. Probably not that cold for you guys in the UK, but out here quite chilly. Anyway the temperature in Singapore is around 34 degree and its pretty humid, but I think both Claire and I were ready ... read more

Hi everyone reading my first "real" blog about Singapore The flight was all good and got a little sleep. I went very quickly through customs etc, since the place was almost deserted at 2.30am, and stepped out of the airport building into an oven even though it was the middle of the night! It stayed like that the entire time and was somewhere well up in the 30's and very humid. I got used to it though and didn't find it unpleasant. The air conditioning in the hostel was a necessary luxury for sleeping. The second things I noticed were the lovely trees and gardens and the cleanliness of the place. No litter, butts, gum or even leaves on the ground. I only saw one tiny piece of graffiti the whole time I was there. The ... read more

Singapore What a contrast, clean and fresh with a good bathroom and no, no cockroaches. My favourite restaurant in Singapore has been demolished in favour of a food village but lots more to choose from so have not starved yet!! We re-visited the botanical gardens and the orchid house yesterday and are spending the day relaxing ready to set off overnight to Oz tonight at 9pm arriving at 5am tomorrow. ... read more

In between month long trips to Australia and Thailand i have been in SIngapore, i am only here because it was possible to get a stopover in SIngapore at no extra cost to the price of my round the world ticket. As my father would say, anything is worthwhile if it is free. Singapore is a single city on a single island that is also an independant country, the standards of living appear to be very hugh here and it is also one of the worlds cleanest cities. I was a bit concerned flying in when it said on the arrival form that drug charges are punishable by execution, something that i can't help remembering. I have quite liked being in Singapore, i arrived incredibly tired and for several days i would sit down in the ... read more

We have arrived at Singapore Airport after a tough, long flight (the plane was virtually empty, though Leens managed to get a kinked neck - Eva's comment to that: Next time we will get you five seats not three. : ) ). Will (Leena's dad) kindly drove us to the aeroporto, though we had to detour via rural Melbourne, then Brunswick, so the trip to the airport ended up being longer than the flight! Ha ha, I am so funny. After sleeping for most of the flight, e had breakfast together in our designated seats. I had the Western breakfast (eggs benedict), Eva toughed the Eastern brekkie (shredded pork with lottsa chilli) and Leens asked for fruit, then opted for nothing after some confusion with the hostess, and ended up with a Continental Breakfast. We were ... read more

We've crossed the International Date Line, so have lost a day in our lives!! Arrived at the Singapore airport, exhausted and travel weary, but it didn't matter as this place runs as smooth as silk. Customs/Immigration, was easy, our shuttle bus to our hotel was waiting for us, and the hotel room was basic, but clean. Despite our lack of sleep, we were too excited to sleep, so decided to go for a walk. It was 1am on Monday morning and the streets were pretty deserted. We managed to find a street with a couple of outdoor restaurants and indulged in a giant Heineken while we watched the locals diving into a "steam boat". A steam boat is a table with a propane burner in the middle upon which a large wok is placed. The wok ... read more

I'm flying to South America in 5 DAYS time! But seriously, this fact hasn't really sank in yet. Maybe because I feel pretty unprepared despite having this plan for almost a year. Haven't settle my financial matters, haven't clear my office and worst, my room is in a mess with all the barang barang I brought home from office. Also maybe because I haven't accepted the fact (or simply refuse to accept the fact) that I'll be away from home for the next few months, away from the comfort of my bed, away from the people who dote and pamper me, away in a totally unfamiliar environment... And this is the first time I'm leaving for an "unknown land" with mininal planning, no idea where I'll be heading, what I'll be doing, where I'll be staying ... read more
