Probably not the wisest idea but we rolled back to Leannes at 01.30 am following farewell drinks with Mon and co and Candy and Taz. We did try to have an early night knowing full well that we had to be up at 04.30 am to get to the airport, but Cands and Taz were having none of it and kept plying us with drinks - cheers girls! So at 6 am we found ourselves sitting in a cafe at Cape Town International with 6 hours to kill before our flight - no we weren't there that early to bag the best seats but because Leanne was flying to Jo'burg that morning and we got a free ride to the airport - every penny counts! 5 am the next morning we touched down at Changi Airport ... read more

When we first arrived in Singapore we were full of vitality, now we are flagging a little. 15.04.06 (day 225 if you're interested and our 100th blog) Like we said on our last blog, we had a bad nights sleep!!! The bar downstairs must have stayed open until at least 2 am at one point we felt like going down and joining them, but the beer is way too expensive. We wern't happy bunnies!!! So in the morning when we finally got up we had another lovely free breakfast cooked by Andy we popped next door to use the internet. A couple of hours later (yes time flys when you're having fun) we went back to the hostel and didn't emerge until 3.30 for some lunch at the Tekka Centre. We both had fried Hokkien, which ... read more

Hello and welcome to my final blog of my Asian adventures. I left last time as I arrived into the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. So again, as Craig David once said, "Ill fill you in"! Kuala Lumpor is a fantastic city. Ill say that for starters cus lots of people believe it is a shit hole. I would disagree, as I spent 3 days there enjoying the cultural delights of a wicked place, that had a great vibe. Although stinking of sweat and smog, you can really feel that the city is growing, and wants to become the next Singapore. Whilst there I enjoyed the delights of the KL tower, which is just a mahusive communications tower smack in the middle of a wood. Here I went to the top and saw some fanstasic views ... read more

Lo and behold; we wake up to a beautiful blue sky and a sun hanging high above our heads, and it is finally time for our overdue expedition to the zoo complex. The weather is fittingly warm and bright. Jason picks us up at our incense stinking room and as we step outside I need to do a small correction. It is not hot, it is steaming. Back inside. Apply sunblock. Maximum Power. There, back outside again and we head north by taxi. The Singapore Zoo is situated inland by the big reservoirs in the middle of the island. On our way we pass through numerous sleeper cities, some are gigantic apartment blocks and others are expensive looking villa suburbs. Jason takes us for lunch at a favourite place of his on the northern coast of ... read more

Our plan today is heading to Zoo.. Jason came to our hotel first and we headed to zoo together. Nice sunshine day, Jason took us to have lunch at Bottle Tree Restaurant, where the place was growing weird plants called Bottle Trees.. the food was great.. with a local hot coffee.. mm.. nice.. After stuffing our stomach with curry fish head, stir fried deer with oyster sauce, we got the zoo with heavy rain.. oi.. what a day.. so we decided to head back in town. Jason leaded us to another food court, tasting all kind of satays then walking back to Boat Quay again. Johan's task was to take pictures there, he's fully equiped with all filter toys for his camera that he bought in digital shop here and my task was having beer, sitting ... read more

14th April Me and J got up really early to catch a bus from Melaka to Singapore, by 1pm we had settled in our guesthouse and were preparing for a blitz through what Singapore had to offer (We only have one night and a bit of the next day before flying to OZ). Incidentally our guesthouse is really good, it's called D'Simple and is in Little India, just a short walk from the bus station. We'd heard about accomodation prices in Singapore being a shock to the system after the 1 and 2 quid a night places in the rest of SE Asia and expected to play at least S$20 (7ish quid), we got in our guesthouse for just S$11- Back of the net. It's only just opened 3 days ago so everything was really clean ... read more

Woke up with the noisy construction outside.. was a nice sleep anyway.. we decided to go to Little India today, we wanted to see some messy area full of Indian culture and good indian food... Just like what I expected, never changed from the first trip, busy market, I love that. Waiting for Jason for few mins, gave me time to walk around Tekka Centre, where people sell food, spices, fruits, cloths, etc. Then we had indian food together.. mm.. nice masala tea.. We did long walk today, exploring little India, Mosques, visit Jason's place, having dinner around his area then back to Orchard fordrinks.. then Jason took me to go-go bar around there.. and so surprise that the gals there are Thai ladyboys hahaha.. ... read more

As we start our wanderings the sun almost manages to make an appearance through the broken clouds. We take the MRT to Little India where we have arranged to meet with Jason. This is also where we meet up with the rain. It doesn't seem to be that bad at first. We continue to wander the streets around the main Serangoon Road not really minding the little drips that keep falling. I immediately take a strong liking to this part of the city. The roads are crowded with taxis shuttling people around and the crowds in the pavement huddle under building archways where merchants display foodstuffs, magazines, incense and wonderfully smelling dried flowers. And each time we pass near an eatery the inviting smells of Indian cooking fills the air. I imagine Indian veterans will shrug ... read more

Ok all you avid bloggers out there here is another installment in the round the world adventures of Andy and Melissa. Once upon a time were two travellers from England, one northener and one southener who embarked on a round the world adventure, eventually after 7 short months they arrived in the city of Singapore, where one day they went to the zoo. Thats right boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen, the zoo. So there you have it, here is there day at the zoo. After our nice cooked eggs on toast and coffee which are free at the hostel for breakie (cooked by me, Andy) we went to the shops to get our packed lunches, sarnies and fruit etc. (makes a change from chinese) and set off on the tube to the zoo. We had ... read more
