Ok all you avid bloggers out there here is another installment in the round the world adventures of Andy and Melissa.
Once upon a time were two travellers from England, one northener and one southener who embarked on a round the world adventure, eventually after 7 short months they arrived in the city of Singapore, where one day they went to the zoo. Thats right boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen, the zoo.
So there you have it, here is there day at the zoo.
After our nice cooked eggs on toast and coffee which are free at the hostel for breakie (cooked by me, Andy) we went to the shops to get our packed lunches, sarnies and fruit etc. (makes a change from chinese) and set off on the tube to the zoo. We had to change at a station with some chinese or so name, to get on a bus that eventually got us there (after an hour) which wasn't too bad. When we first set off it was a little cloudy but the closer we got to the zoo the darker the sky got. Until when we finally arrived it had started to rain. But
in true Brit. style we weren't going to be put off and we had come prepared with our pac a macs that we bought in New Zealand (bin bag type things).
So after buying our tickets, which was a combined ticket for the zoo and the night safari, which cost us $28 we set off round the zoo, in the rain. After the Steve Irwin zoo in Oz we said that a zoo is just a zoo but this was slightly different as all the animals weren't caged up (they were surrounded by moats etc, which was good to see). Although the rain had started to hammer it down we were still having a good time even tho my (Andys) feet were squelching a lot as I had decided to wear my trainers for the day (bad move).
So as in all zoos we saw loads of animals with all the usuals including Sunbears, Tigers, Bengal Tigers, snakes, Rhinos, Hippos, Girrafes and the highlight of the day, two Polar bears that neither of us had seen before so that was great. We saw them feed and swimming around in their pool which was especially amazing. They were mother
Very cute and talkative otter
They can also be called kettles!!!(Water otter) do you get it???? and son, Inuka was the boy and stood over 3 metres tall. We even, as usual had time to nip to the kids zoo to have a look at the ponies and goats.
After 5 wet hours in the zoo it had finally stopped just as we were about to leave. But this wasn't the end of our day!!! Oh no boys and girls, there's more!!!
After a bite to eat in the Kfc, which doesn' taste like the one at home but was only about 2 quid or so, we headed down to the night safari, which apparently is the only one of kind in the world. Basically it is just a zoo that you can go to at night. To get around you can either pay a further $8 each on top of your ticket or walk around. Guess which one we did? Thats right we were walking again!!
But we found out that this was probably the best way as with the zoo and safari were extremely busy it got us away from most of the tourists and gave us a more intimate time with the animals (not too intimate though, you sicko's).
The
highlight of the night safari was getting up close with some fruit bats in their enclosure (only inches away) and seeing a flying fox leaping from tree to tree.
Before our long day came to a close it was time for one last thing, a nocturnal show which was fun and interesting. A big Binturong (like a sloth) walked inches from Melissa head as she was sat in the crowd which she thought was great. This place was chocker block and as we had noticed around the night safari where people were ignoring the signs and shoving their cameras in the animals faces and using the flash, people seem to either not give a damn about the animals or just don't care but they were also using them at this show, even while the nice lady was telling them not to. It stressed me out!! I wanted to ram a camera into their faces and flash their eyes out. AAAAHHHHH thats better!
So after a long long day it was it was back on the bus then the train and home for a restless nights sleep. We will tell you that one next time. So keep reading bloggers!!!!!!
