When we first arrived in Singapore we were full of vitality, now we are flagging a little.
15.04.06 (day 225 if you're interested and our 100th blog)
Like we said on our last blog, we had a bad nights sleep!!! The bar downstairs must have stayed open until at least 2 am at one point we felt like going down and joining them, but the beer is way too expensive. We wern't happy bunnies!!!
So in the morning when we finally got up we had another lovely free breakfast cooked by Andy we popped next door to use the internet. A couple of hours later (yes time flys when you're having fun) we went back to the hostel and didn't emerge until 3.30 for some lunch at the Tekka Centre. We both had fried Hokkien, which was not what we expected. Again Andy finished up mine.
We then walked to Sakaya Muni Buddha Gaya Temple aka Temple of the thousand lights, even though it's only got 996! built by a Thai monk. Inside the temple is a 50ft, 300 tonne concrete Buddha. We had a little look around and went into the meditation room with the reclining Buddha.
On the way back we came across another temple, the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple (hindu). This was really pretty with lots of statues lining the walls. Unfortuantely we run out of space on our camera and for once did not come prepared with another memory card so we moved on, but we are going to go back at a later date and snap away.
Back at the hostel again for a short rest, very short as I wanted to look at some shops in the Little India Arcade. Here I (Melissa) got a mehendi henna tatoo on my hand. It looks really smart, hope it comes off though! Back to the Tekka Centre where Andy sampled his first Asian beers, this meant I got to buy a couple of bracelets!
When we got back to the hostel we decided to book in for another night, so now leaving Singapore on Tuesday.
We went for dinner at about 9pm to ,yes you guessed it, the Tekka Centre. As I was not having much luck with the food I just had a couple of pratas (like a thin nann bread) and Andy had a chicken Biryani which was served on
a palm leaf, but not quite like the locals, Andy used cutlery instead of his fingers.
On the way back we got to ring home which was great and we went back to a noisy pub. But with the ear plugs it was not too bad.
16.04.06 Easter
Woo HOO!!! It's the end of lent, I can eat chocolate! I would just like to say that Andy failed on the first morning!!
In our room we have no windows. This means when we wake up it is pitch black. In the mornings we get very confused. Thinking it's about 2am when really it is 9am! Andy finds this very disappointing.
Today we went to Orchard road which is where you go to shop! Unfortunately we were just window shopping. We looked around all the big malls and in a few of the department stores. Went into TOPSHOP! Where they had free internet, bonus.
Had lunch in a different place today, which made a nice change. Andy had duck and noodles, I had a couple of yummy bread rolls from the best bread shop in the world!
We caught a free bus to another shopping mall just off
Orchard road where we had been told there was a really massive cinema where you can pay $25 and have lying down seats and food and drink service! So we were quite excited about this. When we actually got there it was $35 and all you get is the seat! No food or drink included! So we didn't bother. So that put a stop to the flow of our day so we headed back to the hostel and on the internet.
Tonight in Little India the streets were absolutely packed solid! And looking around I am the only girl out there in the streets. Just hundreds of men standing and sitting around talking and drinking. Also we have noticed a lot of gay couples here in Little India which we found quite surprising at how open they are when their culture seems to be so strict.
This evening at my request, we went and had dinner at the Bugis food market. We both had sweet and sour pork which went down well.
