I haven't written in a while; I am sorry. It's been hard keeping up with everything that has been happening the last few days. There have been tours, and tons of free time to explore. Some of my favorite times have been visiting the park, eating dinner in Little India and most recently EVERYTHING surrounding New Years. First I'll talk about the other night. It was after we went on our first tour. We ended the day at a delicious buffet where I ate all sorts of Japanese food. I know I know, I'm not in Japan still it was delicious (and a group dinner so payed for). After everyone was done eating some people decided to go straight back and others wanted to shop. I joined a group that just wanted to wander around some ... read more

So, this is my first attempt at doing anything like this and I expect there to be problems. For example, spelling and gramer issues, run-on sentences and definitly made up words. Essentially, if you are an English major don't bother reading this or you will go crazy. The best place to start is the begining and for me that meant DC. I wasn't feeling very well and was convinced that I was going to be sick and not allowed to fly. However, I managed to fake well and get through security (the longest line of my life up to that point). After a short wait I boarded my first flight which went to Seattle. Just before I left it started to snow...haha I got out just in time. The flight lasted 5 hours but it felt ... read more

SO instead of doing a visa run we decided to go to Singapore! This means we were allowed to stay an extra 30 days in Thailand as we were flying back in. You get 15 days if you arrive overland. We arrived in Little Indai, the area where we were staying.. we were staying in an alright place-for the same money we would have a castle in Thailand! It did the trick though! We took the tour bus and went all over Singapore, talk about impressive! Singapore is such a wealthy country, especially in comparison to Thailand. It's contrasting cultures are intriguing and the architecture of the city reflects this. A small shopping spree occured on day 2 when we found a 24 hour mall at 11pm.. It had the biggest sports store I had ever ... read more

Min ena väska fastnade i röntgenmaskinen. Man får inte ha knark, cigaretter, snus, löstobak eller Cigarrer. Innehavet bedöms dessutom i gram. Jag råkade ha 19st cigarrer med en totalvikt av 250g. Så nu har jag blivit förhörd, upplyst om Singapores alla regelverk och vilka straff man kan vänta om de bryts. I mitt fall skulle ... read more

Gosh it seems like ages since last last did a blog. We have had a huge week with stops at different ports every day. First day was Athens. Went to the Acropylis which was amazing but didn't enjoy Athens. Dirty, smelly and full of graffiti. Couldn't get back to the ship quick enough. After that Santorini which would definately be our favourite.Beautiful white terraced homes on the edge of cliff. Megan went to the top via donkey. Ali took the cable car as thought it was cruel. Would love to go back there and spend more time and search for the blue domed churches. Last day of cruise docked at Naples. We decided to do a boat cruise along the Almafi coast but weather was shocking. First day of rain in 3 months, got out of ... read more

Note: I havent had a chance to type these up until now so please note they are backdated :) Singapore is both sedate and vibrant, compact and vast. The people here are more than welcoming and will go out of their way to help a lost traveller or confused tourist. It is simple to get around by subway (a system from which Australia could learn a thing or twelve) and the majority of signs are in English which is always a bonus. We hardly ever got lost (I say hardly because we all know about my sense of direction!) The heat is the main confronting issue for us here. We left Brisbane towards the end of winter to step into 33 degree, 89% humidity... quite a shock! The locals don't seem as exhausted by the constant ... read more

After about 30 hours of travelling, 18 of those being on a plane, we have arrived safely in Singapore. Since we are staying here for the night, our main focus was to find somewhere to stay and grab some grub. One of the areas backpackers can find "affordable" accomodations is Little India so we thought that would be a great place to go. There were a number of hostels in one block and chose to stay at The Inn Crowd. It costs a little more than we wanted to spend ($17/bed/night) but with free wi-fi and free breakfast it was much better than a couple other places around. It's going to be our first dorm-style sleeping and the guy that has been sleeping all day filled the room with a lovely aroma...not. In the words of ... read more

This week brings me to the begining of my South East Asia trip. I have left Australia behind. I spent so much time there I am a bit home sick for it. I really miss Tim Tams. Singapore is another stop on the British Imperialst tour. Every time I think of how much arrogance it requred for Europeans to just show up in a place that seemed like it would be usefull to business and just claim it as their own. Forget about the people that were already living there. Of course on the other hand, had the British not invaded the rest of the world like a virus, it would be a lot harder for a monolistic English speaker such as my self to travel. It never fails to amaze me that no matter where ... read more

All curious how things are going, so here we are finally with some news! The plane travel Brussels – Frankfurt – Singapore went smoothly ( except for Skye throwing up during landing ) Happy kids and parents! Singapore was HOT, and we were of course TIRED… despite this we found our way quite well. Once at the airport we took the metro to the Hostel laying in Little India. Metro transport is very well organized, of course we had to find our way in the beginning. Little India was really being in India and we wondered how the other city parts looked like...? The room in the hostel was ok, just beds, no table, nothing really, so that also meant quite some mess! Packing afterwards was not so fun. The staff was really friendly, actually all ... read more
