I arrived in Singapore on the evening of the 17th June and as expected was overwhelmed by the humidity as I left the airport to board the shuttlebus which would take me to my hostel. I was greeted by a member of staff called Shy who checked me in. Having lost 7 hours and spent the best of 14 hours on a plane I was fairly tired but managed to squeeze a few cans of tiger beer down as I sat outside and chatted with Shy and a few other travellers. As is normally the case with hostels it wasn't long before a guitar appeared and we all passed it round playing average covers of classics. I went with a bit of James Taylor which went down well (still got it). The lack of sleep soon ... read more

Mustafa Mall, Night Safari & Jurong Bird Park When we, a team of eight wanderers from India, landed at Changi Airport in the early morning hours, there were signs of the overnight rainfall but it was not raining and the climate was pleasant when we came out and proceeded to our hotel CherryLoft which was in Little India on the side of Rangoon Road. As our check-in time was at noon, we completed the booking formalities and kept our luggage safely in the locker room there. The hotel had a nice view from outside. The front office personnel were courteous and helpful. We then just walked beside Rangoon Road towards Mustafa Shopping Mall, one of the giant malls but economic comparing to other shops in Singapore, needless to say the most expensive Asian country. We spent ... read more

Throughout the night there was thunder and lightening galore so when the alarm went off at 6:50am I turned it off and stayed in bed for another 30mins before we got up and went to the gym. We were at the gym for about 40mins before heading back to the room, getting ready and headed off to breakfast at a lovely little cafe across the way. It was pouring with rain when we were leaving so we got a Carlton Hotel umbrella from reception. I had to leave my name and room number to make sure I returned it. After breakfast we were making our way out on the train to Changi Mall Outlets. While ... read more

alskdfjds;ji;w (bangs head on computer). Okay, I was just about done with this entry when my hostels crappy internet failed and I lost everything I'd written so here we go again. So, since classes have started I haven't had much time to explore any new parts of the city. This weekend I set out to do just that. I decided to take a stroll through Little India and discover what Singapore's "most authentic neighborhood" had to offer. Little India is definitely an experience for the senses. Intoxicating incense and spices, dazzling gold jewelry, and sleek silks fill vibrant colonial shops. I began my journey in Little India's Arts Belt. The Arts Belt is instantly recognizable by the dazzlingly painted art deco fronts of the 1920's era shop-houses. Shops sell an array of jewelry, brassware, statues, and ... read more

Hello everyone, I have taken many photos but we are finding a way to upload them. So we will post the photos in the next couple of days. Anyway today made me very , very tired due to loads of walking. But we started our walking to a local Macca's for breakfast. Next, to a very old historical hotel called Raffle's hotel. We had a nice look around Raffles hotel. The architecture was beautiful!!! After Raffels hotel we went to a battle box known as fort canning. But unforatantly we were not aloud in the battle box due to renovations but, we still got to see many other cool things. Fort canning was so beautiful i thought we were in the botanical gardens for a second. Then, we went to a sky scraper hotel which was ... read more

Hello to all my followers, I am very sorry for not blogging last night for I was on a 5 hour flight. Anyway once we got off our flight we caught a taxi to our backpacker inn (Loffi inn). We arrived and went to check in and the manager woke up and said we were not on the records, or something like that. This wasn't the best welcoming from coming off a 5 hour flight at 5:00am. It took us a bit of persuading to convince him that we did book in and he finally said yes you did book in. So we got to our room to find out that it wasn't the best room and we could of got better but, we decided that we just have to get on with it because we ... read more

So we ended up spending 16 days in Thailand for our second visit there. We weren't overly impressed with Krabi and Ao Nang beach and yet for some reason ended up staying there for a few days! Just laziness really but that's the beauty of our trip, we're not in a hurry! We moved on to Khao Lak because we wanted to dive the Similan Islands and the season ends there at the end of April. There's not much to Khao Lak, just a main tourist strip but we had a cute bungalow back from the main road and were only there to organise the diving. We decided to book a live-aboard dive trip which was amazing! We only allowed ourselves to splurge for one night on the boat but we got six dives! After the ... read more

Got to hotel with no dramas, only $3 on the MRT. Checked in by eight and went for a walk to get my bearings. It's already dark and oppressively humid. End up in what appears to be the wrong end of town, almost lost in some unlit back streets. Seen several spa/massage parlours where I'm sure more services are provided than are listed If you get my drift. Back to hotel beneath which there is a 24hr food court, picked up a lean meat soup and rice for a couple of bucks.......not bad. Knackeredd.....head down. Slept in a bit Monday as I'd got no sleep on the plane. A burst in the hotels (token) gym soon sorted me out. Breakfasted on something like fried dumplings on sticks........was ok. Got a three day tourist rail card for ... read more

The last leg of our train trip was more reminiscent of travel in the rest of SouthEast Asia. The tracks were out, so we had to take a train until Kluang, then a bus to the border, then a train from Johor Bahru to Singapore. It all went seamlessly, though of course took a little longer. However, arriving to Woodlands Checkpoint was not as welcoming as we expected, adn there was no information to be had, no ATMs and no exchange. We managed to change some of our money at the mall enxtdoor, but we were lucky our hostel had sent us transfer information (we did not yet know that Singapore taxis are very affordable). A bit before midnight, we were at our hostel, the Inn Crowd. It was clean and simple and pretty much just ... read more
